  1. The club is always looking for new ways to bring members together while giving them opportunities to the experience the capabilities and performance of their MINIs. Though we enjoy our MINIs on the great twisty roads that are in the area, to truely experience the handling of your MINI requires a closed course environment. Though a race track may be a bit daunting for many, AutoX is a great opportunity to push you and your MINI's abilities in a controlled environment. There are some great AutoX groups in the area, and we are considering reaching out to work with them to support a MINI series.

We would love to here if you would be interested in participating in these events, just comment below. If you have experience with attending autoX events, we would love to talk to you about your experiences. Please send a message to Corey (@1975_MINI) or just say drop me a line below.

    Hello all,

The SCCA was nice enough to grant me a spot for their "Helmets off to Heroes" Veterans day event this Sunday.  It is an HPDE event.  I am super excited about this.  If anyone has ran this track, please advise me about it.  I will be on Bridgestone Potenza 215/45/R17 RE71Rs that I normally autocross on.  The tires are new, only used for one event so far (and that was in the rain).  My concerns are tire pressure for track (I am thinking higher then autocross, near stock values due to heat), brake fade due to boiling of the brake fluid, and inexperience on this track.  Any advice that keeps the rubber side down and heart beat up is appreciated.

@MarkDDrew have you run out there?

Unfortunately COVID has caused us to cancel MINIs Take The Beltway for this year, but it is not going to stop us from having one more run before the end of the year. Let me introduce you to the Tri-state run, with three hours of twisty roads through VA, MD, and WV. We are starting in Leesburg, VA and heading north exploring the great driving roads of northern Loudoun County before crossing into Maryland where we take a short pit stop to stretch your legs and empty/fill any tanks your need to. Then we will explore Fredrick County winding our way up to West Virginia for our lunch stop. Our final leg brings us down around Summit Point and back into Virginia ending at a great new brewery in Hillsboro.

***Each leg of the Drive is Approximately 1 hour***

Start Point: Starbucks, 1011 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg, VA 20176

Pit Stop: Weis Market, 1201 Dutchmans Creek Dr, Brunswick, MD 21716

Lunch Stop: Ladder House Bar & Grill, 2209 Charles town Rd Martinsburg, WV 25405

End Point: Harvest Gap Brewery, 15485 Purcellville Rd, Hillsboro, VA 20132

    Timeline:

We understand this is a longer drive and we welcome those that may only want to do one or two of the legs. Please just let us know so we know to be expecting you as the pit stop and lunch break time are estimates.

We look forward to seeing you all there. Please comment with any question you may have.

I hope this isn't a stupid question.  How does one plastidip the rims only?  I'll google but does anyone have experience trying that?

Asking for a friend with similar wheels.

easiest way is use either index cards or playing cards to create a break between the wheel and tire. very easy to do, just pull the cards once finished. build up the pastidip in thin layers to get a smoother finish as a good ideas to set the can in the driveway in the sun for a bit or submerge in hot tap water for a bit.

Selling FIVE 17 inch Rota B Rims with tpms sensors.  Four ContiProcontact All season non-runflat tires (two are in bad shape and useable only short term.  One is like new while the last is still good).  Last two photos are the same tire.  Didn't bother with pics of the bad shape tires.  Full disclosure - the outside of the rims (not spokes) have some curb rash but some bug left squiggly trails on the aluminum.  Best option IMO would be to plastidip the rims and leave the spokes gunmetal).  I haven't had time to clean them up so there are cobwebs and stuff.  Hope to find them a new home soon.

  10. Well I finally got around to replacing the suspension on Watson. It was a much bigger PITA then switching out coil overs on the modern MINI.

It took about 8 hours spread over a fewer days, a few detours along the way included removing the gas tank in the boot to access the top strut bolt and disconnecting brake lines in the front to remove the radius pins in the upper control arms.

you can see in the photos that the rubber cones (springs) had compressed more than an inch and the struts did not really resist or rebound. So all new cones, adjustable trumpets to adjustable ride height and weight balance, and bilstein struts all around.

  11. We did a final check of key points on the route for tomorrow. We had to shift the lunch stop location due to bathroom accessibility. We will now be having are picnic stop at the C&O canal park in Brunswick, MD (address is updated in the calendar post), this knocks 15 minutes off the first leg. Everything looks great for tomorrow.

Many people’s MINIs have been sitting so be sure you check your fuild levels, tires, etc... today.

there is a gas station and Dunkin Donuts across from the start point if you need to fill up your MINI or yourself.

Driver’s meeting at 9:45, wheel up at 10:00

  12. They can be replaced, you will require a block out kit that cleans up the dask integrated controls that @TGGRRR (Ali) is mentioning.

Are the good? That is a personal opinion I am not really a fan of the look of any of the kits that allow you to put a head unit in. There are some android kits that blank all the lower control and replace the speedo with a setup like the nav screen operating everything like a modern touch screen.

I do not know of anyone that has done this conversion or done the research on reviews.

  15. Just some guesses. Have you checked your cabin filter critter can nest and leaves can make their way there and restrict air flow. Less air means little to no heat.

Is your coolant level good, low coolant would hamper heat transfer.

if those are all good then likely the heating core. Does it smell sweet when the heat is on. May just be clogged from age and you can flush it out.
