Yesterday I decided to open up my air intake box and inspect it. The dealership replaced my filter recently but I wanted to give the whole thing a look over to gain the experience of opening it. I was very surprised to find it full of dirt and small debris in the bottom! so I cleaned it out completely and reseated the filter. Im slowly becoming more comfortable getting into my engine and learning my own maintenance.

It should be in the bottom, that means the filter is stopping it. The air flow is pulled into the bottom of the box, and flows up through the filter and then out the top pipe to the engine. Still good the clean out any debris as fine gravel can prematurely wear the filter or larger debris like leaves can obstruct air flow.

The day before yesterday I tried to install a custom fan system for my subwoofer (it overheats if I am out for a while jamming) and blew a fuse.

Yesterday I finally identified the fuse near the battery and replaced it myself. Boy that was a learning experience for me! Now im going to tackle a way to have a fan turn on when my sub turns on so I can keep it way cool.

Are you running and amp, it should have a signal wire running to the head unit that turn the amp on when the head unit is on.

If not the jack in the boot is wired to the ignition (at least in gen2) that would be a good source to pickup power that would power the fan with the ignition.

Do you have to register to attend the car show, or just show up?  Thx!

You can just show up, there is day of registration (just no t-shirt/swag) or folks can pull off into guest parking if they do not want to have their MINI in the show. I am not sure what the guest fee is, I will find out.

    This event is back!

The Potomac Cars and Coffee got shut down due to people doing dumb things, so that event is now combining with the Poolesville Cars and Coffee. The first one is this Sunday, May 9 at 19701 Fisher Avenue, Poolesville, MD 20837 from 9-11am.  Here is the updated link: https://fb.me/e/26eSjiWW5

I'm planning on being there if the weather is decent.

*Please note: Whites Ferry is still closed, so you'll either need to come up River Road or through Point of Rocks.

Might have to check this one out, could be a good secondary starting spot for the Hop, Skip, and a Brew run

Well, I didn't go.... BUT, I am hoping to make it to MOTD2022!  I've discussed it with my wife and she seems to be OK, my daughter will be 11 by then and I think she'll like it.  So...if this GD pandemic ends and I actually make a call to Fontana, maybe we can meet up with my old DCMM club!!

We will be there, you will see the DCMM banner just stop in

  9. We hit the road for the dragon, and in typical Roxy tradition, she tried to sabotage the trip. Two years ago it was blow a tire and tweak a rim three days before leaving. Yesterday was the battery finally giving out. So a 8am made dash to the parts store for a new one. Quick switch, as long as you know how to get the battery out.

fired right up, checked the charging system to make sure and all was good.

    dragon here we come!!!

  12. The short answer is it depends, does your MINI currently have halogen or xenon headlights. If your are asking about changing the headlight assembly to go from a chrome to a black body that is pretty straight forward. If you are talking about switch to a better blub but in the  same type (halogen or xenon) this again is pretty straight forward. Lastly if you are looking to upgrade from halogen to xenon this is a bit more effort, but there are kit available the key is you get what you pay for on these kits.

If you can clarify the path you are going down we would be happy to go into a bit more detail.

  13. @twakefieldhas it right there is not a lot out on the gen3 for mod tutorials. I did lowering springs on the wife’s countryman (1st gen) and it was all straight forward. Those front end have very little load when the assembly is off the car so you could just have a buddy lean on the top hat and get the pressure off the nut. Not sure the load on a the 3D gen, but you can also pull them then take the assembly with the new springs and have them swap it in. You then do the reinstall.

as for alignment. The biggest thing you are going to change is camber, you will need an alignment or new tires as it will eat the inside edge. I marked the bolt in the front strut tower by tracing them with a sharpie, you will be close enough to drive around and to the shop for a new alignment.

with previous generations you have to also do adjustable rear control arms at least the tops when you lowered to get the required camber adjustability. @twakefield might be able to answer that with the 3rd Gen.
