I have more goodies coming on Saturday so I will likely not be hanging out at Three Fox; Got to get home to get the box off my front porch before any pirates try their hand commandeering a HUGE box (it is about the length of the car itself!)  Any guesses??? (hint: pop....pop...bang bang bang!)

Goodie always take priority, we never take it personal if someone bails at the end point. Coming out and driving is the important part.

  2. There are a decent amount of them for sale in the US prices are a bit crazy like everything right now.

join classic Mini parts trader USA on Facebook and there are a few for sale on their. That group has most of us with classic in the US. So it a good pool of folks that will know where decent one are for sale.

also the Facebook group capital Mini register is all the classic owner in the area. Quite a few more than you would think. I think there are 5 DCMM club members with them now.

Have any other F5x drivers experienced an unusual amount of pitting on their windshield?  Coopah has about 30k miles, many of them highway miles, and the windshield is horribly pitted.  Do these cars have soft glass?  It doesn't appear to be fixable and I may look to have it replaced.  Is this common?

We have had issues on both the clubman (R55) and countryman (R60), seems to be a pretty common issue with the rake of the windshields in MINIs. I have been luck and not had an issue with it in my coupe (R58), but those windshield are raked back a bit more.

  4. realistically the answer it, It depends. Is the downpipe you are looking at a cat deleted one or does it have a free flow cat? Have you changed the exhaust system and modified the second cat from OEM?

    1) if it changes the emissions enough to trip a code, automatic fail at an inspection station. Clearing the code before driving will result in a no test due to the ecu "ratting you out". You will have to drive about 100 miles to reset.

    2) If it removes the downpipe cat, then by the law it fails, but that requires the inspector to know the car hasa second cat, and checks to see if it is there. So depending on the inspector or day it could pass or fail.

Now if someone was you pass through a rapidpass mobile test, they would be able to go to the website and for a small convenience fee pay for their emission test if they passed (I have never seen a failed one), and there would be no physical inspection.

Where might these tester be? https://rapidpassvirginia.com/VaPublic/Locations

Grrr...I was super excited about this, until I realized that I won't be in town that weekend! :(

Maybe you will get lucky and some ice or snow slides it a week. That has been the case the last two years

  7. Good looking MINI, I would agree with @SneakyBaron any  time I am not doing the work myself I go to GTPeace. They are comfortable doing everything from basic service to track mods.

If you are looking at ECU tunes, check out detriottuned.com, They are good friends of the club and produce high quality parts. They also go ECU tunes, you pull and ship your ECU to them and they return it with a staged tune. I know @MELO-R56 did this, and can speak to it. He has an 09 which was a year MINI tuned out the pop and burbles, and they were able to add them back in with his tune.

Hi all! After a couple of years of thinking about it and doing some research, I took the leap and went to CarMax to test drive a Mini. I LOVED IT! They didn't have a model on the lot that checked all my boxes, so they are trucking one from Ohio for me - a 2019 Cooper S hardtop four-door (F55). I'm in Alexandria, VA. They say it will be here on January 2 and I'm going a little stir crazy waiting for it. It was a previously leased vehicle and only has 26,000 miles on it.

Meanwhile, I thought I would introduce myself to your club and see if you have any events coming up where I could meet some of you and see if my husband and I would like to join.

I think the car could easily become an addiction, so this sounded like a good first step.

Congrats, on your MINI purchase, we look forward to see you at a drive once we get through winter. Look forward to seeing photos

Are we doing gifts per person or per couple?

We will bring some kind of meat dish. Need to think about what travels well. Might smoke a brisket 😃

You are welcome to participate individually or once as a couple. Brandy and I do it individually as we don't share well.

  10. For everyone thinking of attending some quick information for registering. Be sure to do the registration part well in advance of the Feb 19 date that runs open up fast , like black Friday big screens at Walmart fast. Many of the desirable runs fill up within the first 30 minutes of being open. I will post a calendar that show how events overlap in mid Jan to help you pick and choose. As well as some helpful tips to consider for your trip down.

I look forward to seeing you all there, and this is a must do at least once. I am sure many of our other seasoned veteran will share their personal tip as it approaches.

Hi all—first post here, and grateful for any help in advance.

I need to replace the front left LCA in my 2018 F56. I'm wondering if anyone has done this and has instructions/ torque specs. Seeing a bit of info for R5*s, but nothing for the F56s.

Thanks so much, and looking forward to being part of the community.

Welcome, you are moving into a new frontier with working on the Gen3s as they are just coming off warranty for many folks. I will keep an eye out and share any information I can turn up.

The LCA is the same type as gen2 and other BMWs, should just be pop the two ball joints (bottom of spindle and subframe) and them the rear tab just slides out of the bushing.

Here is the pelican part write up: for previous gen MINIs: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/MINI/41-SUSPEN-Control_Arm_Bushing_and_ball_joint_Replacement/41-SUSPEN-Control_Arm_Bushing_and_ball_joint_Replacement.htm

I was unable to find the torque specs, but it seems pretty standard across BMW/MINI paltforms: 90nm+/-1 for the inner (subframe) ball joint, and 56 nm on the outer (spindle) ball joint.

We look forward to seeing how it goes and hopefully a gen3 person can confirm.

There is no service manual released for the Gen3 yet, but you can get a one day subscription to BMW online manuals at www.bmwtis.com for $30. Pretty much everything but the wiring diagram is a PDF and downloadable.

^^ Nice work.  Love the red accents.

I also love how all the white helps hide the sunroof glass.

His son did the design, and he asked if I could make it into a graphic.

the owner of the MINI is Colin, he is a staple at the Tail of the Dragon. Not only for MINIs on the Dragon, but randomly throughout the year. he estimated he has 15,000 miles on the Tail of the Dragon!!!

The above warning lights have an intermittently come on and off at various speeds, car runs and stops well without issue. Looking for some good advice. Thank you

Sounds like it could be a speed sensor going bad. Without pulling the codes that’s just a guess based on abs error but no noticeable lose of braking ability
