When registering for runs, do we just register the driver?  (I don't want to take two MINI spots).  The FAQ on MOTD is not clear.  I get it for Bingo, and non-driving things that both should independently register.

Many do want both because the lunch stop is small, or there is some type of event in the middle. The run description will usually say.

  2. As promised here is the schedule for this years events in a timeline with hyperlinks to the events.

Brandy and I will be on:

    - The skillet run on Friday morning, great run leader and an awesome drive up through the great smokie national forest with the sunrise, and back along the foothill pkwy and up the dragon.

    - Friday I lead the run along hellbender out to franklin for lunch and back. A fun banked twisty road between the mountain and the river.

  3. Hey all the runs open for signup in the morning. You have to be registered to sign up. And they need time to process that request, if you are going and have not purchased your registration I recommend you do it this morning. The popular runs fill up quickly as most have a cap on cars due to Leaders ability to retain the good and size of lunch stops. I will post my visual schedule when I get home that shows how all the events layout, I find it easier to plan that way.

Some planning advice, only schedule one driving event a day or you end up watching you clock the whole time. A run during the day, and taking part in the evenings social events makes for an enjoyable week in my opinion. You can fill in the gaps will impromptu drives solo or with friends.

That being said have your coffee and be ready to signup at 9am to ensure you get the runs you want. Some of the more popular one fill up in under an hour. The details for each run will include how many MINIs it will be hosting.

  4. We have an opening in our cabin right in the middle of all the activities at MOTD. Our usually couple decided to do adult things and be extra preggers during MOTD. It is a shared room has two twin beds with one bed already claimed (male occupant). So there is one bed remaining, if you are coming solo and want a place to crash that doesn't require any driving after evening events just reach out. Please drop me a line for more details.

  5. I'll start:

    Who? Corey and Brandy

When are you arriving? We get in on Sunday Apr 30th. Week make a week of it, and help with early setup

Where are you staying? We have a cabin in Fontana Village, all are welcome to use it as a hang out/regroup spot.

Is it your first time? We are old hats at this

Did you sign up for any of the registration events (welcome dinner, bingo, draggin dragons, farewell dinner)? We are signed up for Bingo (we host this event with our other cabin members) and also have both have spots in the draggin dragons

Are there any runs you a excited to do? Well my favorite run it the Hellbender to Franklin (To Hell & Back), but that because I lead that run on Friday. Another run we never miss is the Skillet Run on Thursday morning. This is a early start but drive right through the Great smokie mountains national park (with a high likelihood of an elk spotting)

Any Questions you may have? No questions from us, but happy to answer any questions you may have.

  6. Hey all,

I did a quick scan of the "who's going" section on the MOTD page and saw we have a few DCMMers signed up. So who all is going? In the past we have done things like a club dinner one night, and it is always good to make sure everyone is set up for success. Let hit they key points.

    Who?

    When are you arriving?

    Where are you staying?

    Is it your first time?

Did you sign up for any of the registration events (welcome dinner, bingo, draggin dragons, farewell dinner)?

Are there any runs you a excited to do?

For those who have maybe done this before, is there an insurance consideration to be aware of?  I'm not necessarily worried about an incident in the described course, but it's probably best to be informed.  Thx!

The club has liability coverage for the event, but this covers the club for any resulting damages to the facility. Driver sign a liability waiver at the event, if you have participated in a BMW NCC autocross event in the past it is the same one.

Driver's should review the own insurance cover as most all do not cover track events, and you could get additional coverage for the day if you would like. That being said, autocross is conducted in a large open area with cones as the barriers of the course with plenty of run off areas. Additionally there is no side by side racing, you are racing th clock in this event. Accidents are very rare, but as with anyware not impossible.

The most common car injury is a scuff mark from a cone, which usually just rub off.

Flock, Thank you for mentioning this, and I hope I provided a good understanding that will be having there first experience. We understand most attendees will be at there first event and we have very experienced instructors and have a crawl-walk-run approach.

@1975_mini I just found this thread as I'm making plans to get my MCS walnut blasted this spring. I've never been to GT Peace but it seems they're the best Mini shop in western Nova. Did you ever get any clarity on what discounts they offer?

Yes, I spoke with GTPeace and they are providing 10% off labor. You just tell them you are a DCMM member when scheduling and you will show your membership card to verify your membership

  9. Welcome, and great looking MINI. You time up finding the club page perfectly as our drive events start up in February. We have the MIstress run on Feb 18th, which is a fun drive starting in Burke and travels a lot of the twisty roads out through Stafford, Manassas, and up into wine country off US-17. You can find more details and RSVP at this link:

Additionally, on March 26th we are having a special event out the the Summit Point Motorsports Park with a driving school. Tickets will be going on sale shortly and here it this link to the information on that event.

We look forward to meeting you and your MINI at an event soon.

I am new to the group, this looks fun! But what is a mistress run? Is this a ladies-only event?

    Cheers!

It is called the mistress run because it is around valentine's day. The joking being spend valentine's with your loved one, and spend the day with your mistress (you MINI) on the 18th.

    All are welcome to attend

I had a feeling this would be the date for the Mistress Run. Old Glory DC Rugby has their first home match at 2:00 on this day. ☹️😖😞😓😭🥲😔😟🥹🥺☹️😥😢😭😓😞😖

you can hope for snow that weekend so the run gets slid back like two years ago. That might make for a cold rugby match though.

What can I expect?  Autocross school is the best way  to learn more about autocross and improve your driving performance through in-car instruction by some of the best instructors in the Washington DC area. Come join us for a fun and educational day filled with safe but adrenaline raising motorsport.

    image.png

Class is in session: Sessions will include a variety of topics to help novice participants better understand what goes on in a day of autocross, and what they will likely be seeing and hearing around them as they participate in the motorsport. Instruction on how to prepare both the car and driver for autocross, tech inspect, work a course, and safety topics will get you up to speed with the day-of operations for participating in autocross. Then, drivers will learn how to make the most of their runs by examining techniques like walking the course to determine good run lines, throttle modulation (your gas pedal is not an on-off switch!), and when to brake. Discussions will also cover basic handling conditions such as 'oversteer' and 'understeer' you may have heard of, and how to correct them, and try to prevent these issues to give you your best runs.

Learn by doingIt's time to put all of your newfound knowledge to work. Get ready to buckle up and drive, as you will get run after run to put your training and skills to the test with a series of handling and stopping challenges as you gear up to run a full autocross course. With one of our excellent instructors at your side, you will continue to receive guidance to improve your performance and lower your lap times. As you learn how to pick your turn-in points, choose your braking zones and work the throttle wisely, you will notice a consistent improvement in how your car handles confidently and smartly through the sea of cones.

There is no better way to get started in autocross than with the NCC Autocross school. Whether you've done a few events in the past, or if you've never been out to a course before, you'll find the program educational and the skills you learn useful not just on the autocross course, but for all of the driving you do. Instructor are ready to answer any questions you will have and will ensure you get personalized attention and instruction to overcome any concerns or issues.

  16. Hey all,

I was speaking with David (GM of Passport MINI of Alexandria) at MINIs Take the Beltway this past weekend, and he asked me to share these. They had an owner decide that they did not like the wheel tire package that came on their new MINI, and they were replaced. So now they a stuck with a barely used set of wheels and tires.

The set are black 18" rims (36-10-5-A31-927 Jet Black) wrapped in summer 205/40R18 86W Pirelli PZeros. New this combo is $2300, they just want the space back in there service bay so they are letting them go for $600

These are 5 lug and for F chassis (Gen3) MINIs

If anyone is interested please reach out to David Hellmuth at 703-461-6275 or email his at davidhellmuth@passportauto.com

If you grab them please let me know and I will update this posting.
