    Ah, gotcha.

Bingo used to be Thursday, but it's been a few years since I've been.

Yeah, the evenings have become busy. Wednesday evening is welcome dinner, Thursday evening is cabin crawl, Friday is Bingo, Saturday is Farewell. Damn Barry and is full slate of events, lol.

Just curious, does that mean you do not go to the Farewell dinner? (I've already signed up and paid, so hoping maybe this dinner will be Friday night :-))

Previously many of the club members did not attend the farewell dinner so we did a group thing, We can consider other nights based on what others have planned. Friday is Bingo, and many of the club members put that event on, so trying to fit is in that evening may be difficult.

  3. Hey all,

we had a room open up in the DCMM cabin. Queen bed in the Fontana village makes it so you can enjoy all the social events and it is walking distance to the cabin while also being above the party so you can actually sleep. Lol

if you were thinking of coming down or looking to be on Fontana just ping me for the details.

  4. Awesome, look forward to seeing you out there @SneakyBaron. We have one MINI signed up for the school when I checked today, John will be bringing out his GP3. FWD Hatches do make up about half the attendees at this point (Golfs, Fiestas, Veloster, and MINIs)!!! So it going to be a great time.

We also have 3 MINIs signed up for the Season, and a few others that pop in for an event here or there. We will have to get you driving in an event or two this year.

If anyone has any questions I am happy to answer them.  Autocross, is a great way to learn the handling of your MINI, which will benefit you on if you plan on being on track, or just make you more confident on a fun run with the club.

  5. Hey all, A friendly reminder that run registration open on 17 Feb at 0900. For those that this is their first time, if there are runs you really want to attend you need to be on the site at 0900. Popular runs fill up within minutes.

That being said you must have purchased your registration prior to registering for runs, registration for the event is currently open with 319 people already registered. I recommend getting that knocked out prior to the 17th, so you can be longed in with your coffee ready to go.

I have attached a visual timeline of the events, it can sometimes be difficult to see what conflicts with what just reading the times. I also color coat the runs based on pace. I recommend opening in chrome, zoom in, and each event is hyper link to the info page so you can click and get all the detail on each event.

Folks that have been can likely weigh in on what were fun runs they have participated  in in the past? @MELO-R56 @TheEnglishBeat @Mitzy @Obsessive @GreenCactus @TGGRRR (Ali) @SneakyBaron @SierraRoses @Sanderson Clan @Edge @CHILLIN

I will start to find a good time for a club dinner run. We usually do a short drive out to a restaurant on Saturday evening before every heads home on Sunday.

  6. Hey all,

I have completed in this series the past few year, and NCC puts on a great event! Everyone is happy to help you learn and improve. Those that attended the MINI autocross school last year, NCC were the ones hosting us.

The is a MINI class so you can complete with your fellow MINIacs, but completing is definitely secondary to having fun and learning to push your driving ability and better understand the handling of you MINI.

Last year we average 4 MINIs per event, and had as many as 7 for one. Come out for the season or even one event to get in touch with the racing heritage of your MINI.

I am happy to answer any question anyone may have, also the other members that have participated I am sure would be happy to share their experiences.

Does anybody have ballpark cost on shipping car to New Mexico and starting from there?  Since we got lucky with lodging for Dragon, saving a few vacation days in July might come in handy.  Would you just have the car sent to the dealer to hold?  I have never shipped without someone waiting on the other end for me.  So many questions!

    Quick first check was $1300

  8. @Duke happy to hear you were able to get a room. Being able to stay in the village puts you in the middle of everything to include the social events in the evening.

I would follow this thread (button at the top) as I will start posting tips, tricks, etc.. for attending the event. We get down there the sunday before everything kicks off and there is a big DCMM banner on the front of our cabin. there is usually a crowd there to check in and figure out everyones' plans.

One of my rims is cracked and I’m looking for one for sale that’s used and a better price than what CarMax wanted to charge lol anyone have one or know any leads (part stores, junkyards etc) that I can find one at?

There are several MINIs in the PYQ pick-a-parts in the area. They also have an app you can scout the cars on before walking the yard.

Which rim are you looking for, as there are serval different styles? Honestly you can like pickup a used set off marketplace for what you will pay to find one of the correct rim.

  11. Not sure where in DC you are coming from but getting over to 7, the 50 through WV, and working you way up 42 to 40 into Pittsburgh will add about an 1:30 to the direct route, but give you some nice winding roads with out crazy twisties to completely derail your trip.

Our run season will pick up again in late Feb, hope to see you are a few runs this year.

  12. it is usually one of two things, take a trox bit and make sure all the screws are tight in the tray. If you hear it only when the roof is closed it is usually the the wind diffuser at the front (the thing that pops up) rattling against the glass when closed. Try putting a two or three inch strip of felt tape at the top center edge. see if the solves your problem, dealer will never admit to a poorly design part.

Hi VP,  Yes, I'm very interested in adding some flair (black jack), but there's just something a little fishy with the stick-on ones.  I was hoping I could get new caps that are an actual replacement for the plain white ones that I already have.  I heard that the stick-on ones cover up the Mini light logo on the driver's side.  It's a brand new car -  I can't give that up!

Any of the Miniacs have experience replacing mirror caps and where to buy real Mini parts?

    JAK

Her is a video, replacing the cap is very easy.

You can buy from MINI, or several of the vendors that sponsors our recent event sell them like MINIMania.com or OutMotoring.com

For the rear sway bar, I didn't know it would be that efficient against understeer since the initial reason that I was looking at strut and chassis braces was to eliminate understeer. The price point is a bit high for me atm but I will definitely get them sooner or later. With the suspension part, do you think lowering springs would be a bad idea since I only look to lower it a tiny bit (about an inch lower than OE)?

Lastly, do you mind if I contact you directly later on if I have any specific questions? Promise I won't barrage you with questions. Once again, thank you so much for the recommendation!!!

It can seem a bit counter intuitive,  a rear sway bar prevents weight transfer to the outside rear on turns, this results in a more even weight maintained across the front drive wheel, allow then to pull you through the corner. Currently your understeer is most likely a result of the unloading of the front inside side wheel on a turn.

There also some driving style mods to lessen understeer, we hosted a autocross school last spring that I believe helper a lot of folks in the club better understand the handling of the MINIs.

    Shoot me a message anytime!!

Just upgraded my 330cc injectors on my R52-S with a set of Bosch 380 Audi injectors. 1/4 the price of JCW injectors and are a direct fit. Working great! Part # 0280156063. FCP Euro for $200 a set.

Did you already go to a reduced pulley, the JCW have an 11% reduction from the S I believe, and a lot of reputable vendors sell a 15% option

  16. BLUF: First handling upgrade I recommend to most people are upgrade tires and brake when they a due for replacement and a stiffer rear sway bar. It increases handling without sacrificing daily driving comfort.

The MINI platform is very stiff as is so until you have done most of the upgrades below you will not be stressing the chasis enough to get the benefits of a front strut bar or chassis braces. The strut bar does provide an appearance gain for some, and if it has full strut tower caps it would help prevent tower deformation from the nasty pot holes in the area.

So here are the biggest bang for you buck in my opinion, so take with a grain of salt.

    - Tires: plan/budget to upgrade when when they wear out. If you are on run flats, upgrading to a quality performance tire (all-seasons are fine if you do not have to sets). Just buy a space saver spare for if you have a flat.

***I personally run Michelin Pilot Sport 4S A/S as my dailies, and switch sets for days at the track

    - Brakes: again a ware item so just when they a due to be replaced look at upgrading pads/ rotors. EBC and Hawk tend to be the two top brands folks use, just make sure you select the pad in their ranges that truly meets your driving. Putting full ceramic race pads, will just result in lots of noise, and not great performance as you likely will not have them up to temp most of the time

*** I use Hawk HPS+ with drilled and slotted rotors

Ok now for the good stuff in order you should look at doing them:

    - rear sway bar: this is probably the biggest upgrade for the money. Going to a large rear sway bar, helps to eliminate that pesky understeer in MINIs. You can get them for around $250 and there are several quality options out there. The install is a bit more that on most cars as the sway bar runs between the body and subframe. I would estimate part, install w/ an alignment you would be a shade under $1000. Best part about this upgrade is there is no sacrifice of daily ride quality

*** I have a Hotchkis 25mm hollow rear sway bar.

    - coilovers /springs/struts: This is another honestly assess your goals or you can waste a lot of money on things you will never use. Do you need height adjustment and full rebound/ dampening adjustment? If so look at coilover setups, but remember you get what you pay for in this world. If you are looking for a stiffer ride you improve you may be able to meet you need upgrade springs or struts. If changing ride height or you want more adjustment to your alignment adjustable rear lower control arms are a good more also.

*** I retained my JCW springs and updated struts to KONI yellow adjustable

    - Others: after all the above you can then look at upgrading to poly bushings, chassis stiffeners, etc..
