I hate to break it to you and your friend, but paperwork or not, it isn't a legit JCW. MINI did not release the JCW Tuning Kit (engine upgrade) for 1st Gen MINIs with an automatic. PERIOD. I heard rumors of a few dealerships going "rogue" and selling/"installing" the kit on automatic R53s, but they would only be able to install the hardware, not the matching ECU tune, and warranty work for it at other dealerships could pose a problem. One way or another, it isn't 100% bona fide. At best it's a grey area. Sorry!

I hate to break it to you, but it does appear that the dealership was right, and that you need to have a special bumper cover for the chrome stuff. Here's the evidence: RealOEM.com BMW R56 Cooper Trim, bumper, rear (up to 8/10) If you look at the link above, there are indeed two different bumpers - one for the chrome package, one without. The part number you are looking for is referenced only in conjunction with the special chrome package bumper. You could still order the part number anyway, pay your $25... and try to make it fit. As long as you don't damage the part, you could return it for a refund if it doesn't work.
-
Dig around on RealOEM to be sure what OEM parts (and their part numbers) are truly available. I'd look for you now but I'm on my iPhone right now and it's not as easy to do from here.

The only problem with having a group dinner later on a weekend is the much larger crowd of other people, and the restaurant having to accommodate our large group during the rush. Not to mention additional possible parking challenges for us. For those reasons, I suggest Sunday instead of Friday or Saturday if we do it at 7. That all being said, I like Red Robin (bottomless garlic fries!) and I'm not an earlybird eater anyway (unless I skipped lunch), so I'm all for the idea! :top:

Yup! Since about mid-January.

Fontana added Verizon microcells, to be exact. Only 2 or 3 phones at a time can make a call. Something like that. It's certainly better than no reception at all, but it's still a far cry from a real cell tower.

Fog lights should only be used when it's actually foggy out anyway.

Great party again, as always - thanks Katie! And a special thanks to Brian for his very generous door prize!

Just be careful with how far you go on the pulleys. It's generally accepted that a 15% S/C pulley is a "reliable" mod (with no change in crank pulley). If you decide to go all the way to a 17% S/C pulley and possibly even throw in a 2% crank pulley at the same time... yeah, you'll get more power, but your S/C will need to be replaced MUCH sooner, and you might end up breaking other stuff too. Just saying - be as aggressive as you want to be, but realize the risks you're taking when you do it. ANY pulley change will likely shorten the life of your S/C, but some more than others! Heck, the JCW kit's pulley is only around 12%.

Jono - whatever you have to do to make it to MOTD, do it! I can't recommend it highly enough. My first year, I was a bit doubtful, not knowing what to expect, where to stay, etc. I was talked into going to MOTD, found a place to stay (with Katie - she had a 2 bedroom cabin)... I'd had the MINI for less than 2 months! It's a permanent part of my calendar now. I've been to 6 straight, and this will be my 7th. My favorite week of the year.
