  1. Hey - it was me that gave you the advice, not my MINI! I'm curious though - did you talk to AAA at all? If so, did you ask about the Crystal Fusion treatment? Unfortunately, when the body shop replaced my windshield after the accident, they didn't arrange to get it treated again, which I know means this windshield won't last as long. I already miss the treatment whenever it rains, too.
  2. I suggest trying AAA but insisting on OEM glass. You may have to pay a little extra for that but IMO it's worth it. Also, I believe AAA offers the chemical treatment "Crystal Fusion" as an added option with all new windshield installs. This treatment should cost less than $100 extra from AAA, and it both hardens your windshield against future chips & cracks (by filling in the microscopic pits that naturally occur in glass, to strengthen it), and it also serves as a more permanent "Rain-X" treatment - rain just slides right off, you barely even need to use your wipers! It's a wonderful treatment. Many dealerships offer this treatment as an added option at a ridiculous price (~$500-600) but if AAA will do it for less than $100, it's worth it IMO. I believe they will ONLY do it with new windshields though, not existing. Definitely worth asking.
  3. Prices reduced - I have a week or two until I really have to get all of these out of there, so I'll be gradually reducing them until they are all gone.
  4. I'm almost done remodeling my condo and I am trying to sell some of my older furniture. I have it posted on Craigslist here: Australian sugar cane round table & chair set - $75 Beige microfiber/suede double recliner - $150 Black leather sofabed - $120 I have new furniture arriving in a couple of weeks, so I need to get rid of this stuff beforehand! Post below if you're interested. I'll be available almost any time this weekend if someone wants to come and look at it - thanks!
  5. Yes, all 1st Gen & 2nd Gen OEM wheels are interchangeable on both generations, except for the 5-lug models (Countryman & Paceman). The only issue that may come up is clearance for larger brake calipers (if present).
  6. The less chrome the better in my view so I wholeheartedly approve of all of these mods, regardless of the color chosen. :top:
  7. Welcome to the DCMM Forums, Mike & Emily! We hope you like it here and consider joining as a member. Hope to meet you at one of our events soon!
  8. I am looking to get some custom leather upholstery work done on seats for my MINI soon too, and I asked at my well-respected body shop who they use, they gave me these two names: Lim’s Custom Top & Upholstery (Tyson's Corner & Chantilly) – (703)893-7373 Chong's Upholstery (Woodbridge) - (703)490-6900 I haven't contacted either shop about the job yet... I'm waiting to see how my MINI's repair turns out first - but I plan on giving them both a shot at my business. My criteria won't just be price, either... this will be a "1-shot" job, so it will be entirely based upon how I "feel" they are up to doing a top quality job, the first time.
  9. To me, driving the Dragon responsibly comes down to a few basic points: Don't drive beyond your limits. Realize that not everyone has the same limits you do. If you can't take the turns without crossing the double yellow line, even on sharp hairpin turns, then you are driving beyond your limits. Either slow down or pay more attention to what you're doing. Those basics above also come down to simple courtesy: Did someone else catch up to you on the Dragon? Don't stress about it, don't get nervous. Don't speed up and drive beyond your limits, that's dangerous. Do pull over to let them past when a safe spot opens up to do so. [*]Did you catch up to someone else on the Dragon? Don't tailgate, honk angrily or otherwise drive like a donkey. Do be patient and let them drive at their limits until they get a chance to pull off safely. When they do pull over and let you pass, give a "thank you" honk and wave. It will encourage them to continue to do it! If you are frustrated by them, especially if they refuse to pull off and let you pass at the next safe pullover, then you should pull over, take a break and let them catch up. Road rage is amplified on the Dragon - don't let it get the best of you. Just following the above simple advice makes a huge difference in how much you can enjoy the Dragon and other twisty roads in that region.
  10. I'm going to have to try to stealthily park my non-MINI away from the crowd... :embarassed:
  11. 2 hours out, the weather forecast calls for rain in that area code (20242)... What time will the final decision be made, Ali?
  12. Well that was fun! A huge thank you to everyone that attended the Spring Fling today. What makes this event a success are the fun attitudes of the people who attend it, and you MINIacs did not disappoint! I tried to lead Group A at the appropriate "brisk" pace to ensure everyone still had fun without feeling like they had to drive way out of their comfort zone. I can only hope that the folks in Group B felt they had their share of fun too, (especially the non-MINIs) playing catch-up when we got separated. A special thanks to Mark & Ali for the excellent job they did relaying between the two groups, for John & Manja for "sweeping" from the back of the MINIs, and for Craig & Lona for their assistance, including setup/check-in, ensuring the run leaders were properly fed before the start of the run, and helping to keep all of us together at the back at various points. Of course I'd be remiss if I didn't also give a big thanks to my beautiful co-pilot Catalina, who helped navigate, radio call and drive the lead MINI (Poison Ivy) at various points (not to mention providing the said MINI!). Thank you again honey - you made a good day so much better. :highfive: It's days like today that make the job of organizing runs worthwhile. I look forward to our next run! :top:
  13. They are most definitely welcome, but the non-MINIs will have to drive in the rear of the group (which is where they probably want to be anyway!). The main thing they need to know is "no asshattery"! Great! I'm bringing all 10 of mine - which includes my 1 new fancy one and 9 to loan out if necessary. I'm also bringing my portable tire inflator. I think we're more prepared than ever before! Can you guys sweep? Besides trusting you and your past SF experience, you can help keep an eye on the R32 & M5.
  14. Joe is a busy guy and doesn't visit the forums too often, although right now he probably should be! He lives in the Woodbridge, VA area. I will let him know there are folks here waiting to hear from him (I have his phone number). I believe his MINI was damaged on the front passenger side.
  15. Hey guys - I'm looking forward to the Spring Fling on Saturday! The weather forecast is calling for 60/61 and sunny (in Sterling and Flint Hill), at least according to Weather.com, so it's looking good! Currently we only have 34 people and ~22 cars (Catalina and I will be riding together), so it will be a bit smaller group than the past couple of years, which should prove to make the run a bit more efficient. I only think we need one "relay" in the middle, and Mark & Ali have already volunteered, so we'll just need whoever is driving in the back to be the "sweeper" and radio in when everyone has completed the turns. If someone wants to volunteer for that, great! Please don't forget to charge your 2-way radios! (plug them in tonight!) Also, please don't forget to bring CA$H to make the check easier to sort out. See you all on Saturday morning! :motor:
  16. This past Saturday we did the Spring Fling practice run - tremendous thanks to Laura (GreenCactus) and Michael (TheMichael) for their help in doing it! We didn't run into any unexpected obstructions or detours, however the road conditions are definitely reduced this year, with more potholes than usual. It has indeed been a particularly nasty winter, so that is not too surprising. I'll be trying to call out the really bad potholes on the run (especially in the worst areas), but just a word of warning for everyone to keep a sharpy eye out for them! We don't want anyone to have a bad day with a ruined tire and/or wheel. Attached is the new route sheet for 2014, which I will also link to in the main event post at the top. There are some additional notes I have which will only be called out on the radio (lack of space to fit them all in). I'm looking forward to the run! :top: Oh, one other thing - I need a few volunteers to be "relays" and one to be the "sweeper". Ideally these should be people who have a passenger to help navigate in the event that the group gets separated, but it is not a requirement. Is anyone up for that? DCMM Spring Fling 2014 Route Sheet.xlsx DCMM Spring Fling 2014 Route Sheet.xlsx

LOL indeed! Craig... Cut, Paste to here.
  18. I believe the menu will be limited again - it's the only way they can practically handle so many of us at once. The gluten free pizza (from last year: Tomato Sauce, Chicken, Broccoli, Olives, Peppers) will be there for you again, Ali. If anyone else wants to pre-order it too (it was $14 last year), let me know and I'll ask them to make more than one. The "practice run" is happening tomorrow, so I will shore up things then. If anyone wants to join us on the practice run (I could use a navigator! Catalina can't go as she has to study), let me know! We leave on the practice run at 10am tomorrow (from the Sterling Target, of course). NOTE: The practice run is intentionally meant to be a small group, and I'm waited to post about it now on purpose, because it's very short notice. The real run is next Saturday, of course!
  19. Welcome Alex! Please don't PM me. Right now my PMs are not working, so you won't be able to. All of the details on the Spring Fling are available in the event thread, right here: Spring Fling 2014: Drive & Lunch in VA wine country :top:
  20. Later this year, when I finish upgrading my entire entertainment system, I will be looking to "invest" in GoPro, finally... and I'll almost certainly pick up some of these mounts. :top:
  21. The RSVPs for the Spring Fling are now OPEN. There's a limit of 50, so if you RSVP yes now and later realize you can't go, please update the RSVP to say so. HAPPY SPRING! :wavey:
