  1. Sorry guys. I intended to go (I even woke up in time!) but my body was unwilling.
  2. I'm sitting here at home, deliberating on whether to go or not. I want to go... but my stomach is upset and giving me problems, so I don't know how smart it is to leave the house. If I don't end up being there, I'm sorry! Best of intentions,
  3. I wonder how they'll react to me showing up in a loaner car from one of their competing dealerships? :embarassed: Do I park so the rear windshield is facing away down the street?
  4. I have no need for a chrome front grille(or chrome mirror caps, for that matter), but I do have HB upper & lower grilles that I recently removed from my MINI. (I also have the OEM bumper covers & side skirts... but I digress). If you don't manage to find the trade you want, perhaps we can settle on a mutually agreeable price for my HB grilles.
  5. Any FRS & GRMS 2-way radio that supports "privacy codes" (i.e. subchannels) should suffice. None of them really get very good range
  6. Well, if our intended departure times line up close enough, perhaps a "Caravan to Knoxville"?

<p>It's that time of the year again! Spring is in the air, old man Winter is running off to hide, and the trees are starting to blossom!</p> <p> </p> <p>Just like I did <a href="http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/dc-metro-minis-archive/131437-sunday-apr-6th-and-20th-spring-fling-2008-sunday-drive-and-brunch.html" rel="external nofollow">last year</a>, I'm organizing the Spring Fling run again, this time on <strong>Saturday, April 25</strong>. Why not come out and celebrate both Spring and finishing your taxes? </p> <p> </p> <p><strong>WHERE TO MEET:</strong> Sterling Wegman's parking lot (North-East corner)</p> <p><strong>WHEN:</strong> Saturday, April 25 @ 9:30am. We depart at 10am <strong>sharp!</strong></p> <p><strong>WHAT TO BRING:</strong> Full tank of gas, 2-way radio, money to buy lunch (cash please - makes it easier for the check), sweater/raincoat/umbrella (if necessary, depending on weather) and a fun-loving attitude! :top:</p> <p> </p> <p>A quick refresher:</p> <p> </p> <p>One of my fondest MINI-related memories is the very first drive I ever participated in with DCMM - it was the Spring Fling, created by Bruce Pancoast (<a href="http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/member.php?u=68" rel="external nofollow">mty_mini</a>), and organized with help from Jen Oakes (<a href="http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/member.php?u=79" rel="external nofollow">Jen</a>) (who was our event coordinator at the time). This all happened on Sunday, April 24, 2005... only 6 or 7 weeks after I picked up my brand new MINI. Alan (<a href="http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/member.php?u=2" rel="external nofollow">Scavenger</a>), who was getting his first exposure to the MINI, came along as my co-pilot.</p> <p> </p> <p>Meeting in the Sterling Wegmans parking lot (near MINI of Sterling), it was fun to meet a whole bunch of like-minded MINIacs all at once, for the first time. Little did I know just how much fun there was still to come... after grabbing some coffee and/or breakfast snacks from Wegmans.</p> <p> </p> <p>The roads were beautiful and twisty, and was such an awesome experience to be in a long line of MINIs for the very first time. We stopped for lunch at Orlean Market <span style="color:#000000;">in Upperville, VA</span> (in western Fauquier County), then continued on for wine tasting at Naked Mountain Vineyard & Winery after that, before heading all the way back to Wegmans.</p> <p> </p> <p>It was a long day (128 miles or so!), but <strong>so</strong> nice. Needless to say, I was eager to do this run again.</p> <p> </p> <p>After much discussion and by popular demand, we did it again last year... <strong>twice!</strong> Once on Sunday, April 6 and again on Sunday, April 20. The route got a little longer too - now it's up to 137.1 miles. </p> <p> </p> <p>Our brunch stop will be again be at <a href="http://www.griffintavern.com/" rel="external nofollow">Griffin Tavern</a> (<a href="http://www.griffintavern.com/menu.cfm" rel="external nofollow">menu</a>).</p> <p> </p> <p>For those interested or curious:</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/dc-metro-minis-archive/39093-dcmm-sunday-drive-and-brunch-sunday-april-24-10-00-am.html" rel="external nofollow">Original Spring Fling thread (2005)</a></p> <p><a href="http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/dc-metro-minis-archive/131437-sunday-apr-6th-and-20th-spring-fling-2008-sunday-drive-and-brunch.html" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2008 thread</a></p> <p><a href="http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/attachments/dc-metro-minis-archive/31519d1208754738-sunday-apr-6th-and-20th-spring-fling-2008-sunday-drive-and-brunch-dcmm-spring-fling-2008-route-sheet-both-editions-final-.xls" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2008 route sheets</a></p> <p><a href="http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=46&d=1240184522" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2009 route sheet</a> (<strong>this</strong> is the final route for 04/25/09)</p> <p><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=45131+Columbia+Pl,+Sterling,+VA+20166&daddr=Loudoun+County+Pkwy+to:Ryan+Rd%2FVA-772+to:VA-860%2FWatson+Rd+to:US-50+to:Lime+Kiln+Rd%2FVA-733+to:Mountville+Rd+to:Foxcroft+Rd%2FVA-626+to:38.969557,-77.73635+to:Pickering+St+to:Atoka+Rd%2FVA-713+to:Atoka+Rd%2FVA-713+to:Grove+Ln%2FVA-55+to:Grove+Ln%2FVA-55+to:Free+State+Rd%2FVA-721+to:659+Zachary+Taylor+Hwy,+VA+22627&geocode=%3BFYU9UwIdQRRi-w%3BFRjuUgIdI0Bh-w%3BFeNQUwIdCzRg-w%3BFVSSUgId6rNf-w%3BFRajUwIdLW1f-w%3BFVhfUwIdiwVe-w%3BFeU4UwId3YVd-w%3B%3BFbicUgIdvc5d-w%3BFaa4UgIdurxc-w%3BFR6uUgIdxLRc-w%3BFfuJUQIdPidb-w%3BFX8JUQIdZ51b-w%3BFeRiUAId3Ftb-w%3B&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0,1&mrsp=8&sz=18&via=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10,11,12,13,14&sll=38.969006,-77.736731&sspn=0.003032,0.004013&ie=UTF8&ll=38.863236,-77.711792&spn=0.777379,1.027222&z=10" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2009 Morning Route on Google Maps</a></p> <p><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=659+Zachary+Taylor+Hwy,+VA+22627&daddr=Hume+Rd+to:Leeds+Manor+Rd%2FVA-688+to:Leeds+Manor+Rd%2FVA-688+to:Blueridge+Mountain+Rd%2FVA-601+to:Snickersville+Pike%2FSnickersville+Turnpike%2FVA-734+to:Jeb+Stuart+Rd%2FVA-630+to:39.050085,-77.734559+to:Snickersville+Turnpike%2FVA-734+to:Loudoun+County+Pkwy%2FMoran+Rd%2FOld+Ox+Rd%2FVA-606+to:45131+Columbia+Pl,+Sterling,+VA+20166&geocode=%3BFVqeUAIdiDNY-w%3BFZjjUAIdFuJZ-w%3BFSm8UQIdw9ZZ-w%3BFSBfUwIdrmZa-w%3BFSHAVAIdZ25c-w%3BFRf1UwIdLspd-w%3B%3BFUw7UwIdPHxe-w%3BFdsqUgIdFiph-w%3B&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=1&mrsp=7&sz=16&via=1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9&sll=39.052335,-77.733314&sspn=0.012114,0.01605&ie=UTF8&ll=38.912407,-77.77359&spn=0.776841,1.027222&z=10" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2009 Afternoon Route on Google Maps</a></p> <p> </p> <p><strong>NOTE: Non-member drivers will be expected to sign a waiver before participating.</strong></p> <p> </p> <p>Hope to see many of you out there again!</p>
  8. It's that time of the year again! Spring is in the air, old man Winter is running off to hide, and the trees are starting to blossom! Just like I did [url="http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/dc-metro-minis-archive/131437-sunday-apr-6th-and-20t
  9. Yep, police definitely a concern... finding the right "balance" between time efficiency and wallet efficiency is always a challenge! Here's the route I'll be taking - starting at I-495: I-66W to I-81S (64.5 miles) I-81S to I-40W (376 miles) (also, a stop for gas just inside TN border) I-40W to Knoxville (32.1 miles) At this point, there are a few turns you have to take through Knoxville, but there should be signs to take you to Maryville. Follow those until you're on Rt 129. (I use my Nav system) Rt 129 to Rt 28 (52.8 miles - the last 11.3 of which is the Dragon!) Rt 28 to Fontana Village (9.2 miles) The total trip distance is 542 miles, according to Google Maps (route link), for a little over 9 hours. If you are not a "strictly speed limit" person like me, it will take about 8 hours. Add back in the gas/food stop(s), and it comes back to 9. Mind you, even in my "least efficient MINI" R53, if I start the trip with a full tank, I manage to make the whole trip with only one stop for gas (usually just inside TN, as noted in step 2 above). So 2 tanks for the whole trip. R56s won't need to stop at the TN border, of course... and they might be able to make the whole distance on 1 tank... if driven very conservatively.
  10. Hey everyone... I'm planning on driving down to MOTD 1 day early (Tuesday, April 28). I'll be taking Rt 66 out to the very end (Strasburg, VA) then taking Rt 81 South from there to Knoxville, then down to Maryville, and finally Rt 129. The total drive time is ~8 hours, plus a stop or two for food & gas. This is my 5th MOTD, so it has become a comfortable annual routine. The departure time is not decided yet... but I'm flexible if we end up having a caravan. Since I live in Annandale, only a few short miles (3.2) from I-66, rush hour traffic should not be a huge factor (from my house, at least). Anyway... are there any other DCMMers who also want to go on Tuesday, that would like to do a caravan?
  11. It's definitely been done before - see this link (Porsche GT3). I did a little searching online and found other references to cars that have the "entire vehicle" treatment as well. Let me throw out there a "wild guess" on the price for an entire MINI. $3500. That's just a hunch. Curious to see how close I am on that! In my opinion, the only time it's really worth doing the whole car is: The car is brand new (or has just been totally repainted) The car is thoroughly and professionally detailed right before application With both of those conditions met, then yeah, I can see it being worthwhile. Otherwise you're just covering something less than perfection to begin with!
  12. Why stop there? Why not have them do the entire car? Early on, I actually contemplated getting a quote on that... but somewhere deep down, a more reasoned voice won... quite a rarity when it comes to me and my MINI.
  13. Well... you could tell them you want them to put it on the entire bonnet... but that would probably get kinda expen$ive.
  14. I have the clear bra installed on my MCS before I even took delivery. Boy am I glad I did! The front still looks good, even after 4 years of ownership. Recently, I had the OEM Aero Kit installed on my MINI as well, and I had the clear bra / invisishield re-applied to the parts that were replaced (bumper covers). I didn't even hesitate - I know it's well worth it.
  15. I'm driving down on Tuesday too, only I'm doing the whole drive in 1 day. It's 8 hours - not too bad. I'm going solo... unless someone else wants to go a day early too? It's nice getting there before the crowd. Me too! :motor:
  16. Somewhere at the back, I think I spot a BMW Z4 Coupe. :motor:
  17. Hey Joe! Yes, our site is a hybrid of public and private forums... we still love to have visitors and are still very interested in inter-club events where feasible. Our club calendar and events forums are visible to visitors though, so you can still see what we're "up to". :top: Thanks for stopping by! :wavey: Haemish DCMM Secretary
  18. Ooh - Mountain Dew, please!
  19. Here you go - easy linkage: Amazon.com - Show N Go License Plate Holder (manual) - $49.95 Amazon.com - Show N Go License Plate Holder (powered w/remote) - $149.95 BTW, only 4 of the powered ones left in stock as I type this.
  20. I just ordered one via Amazon.com. That is just way too cool to ignore. I recently had the aero kit installed, and I bought a really nice tow hook mount for the license plate, so there are no holes in the bumper... but this solution is so much more elegant! I wonder if we can get away with driving around with the plate retracted? If we get pulled over, we can quickly hit the button to put it back out. Hehehe.
  21. Bravo Mark - that is awesome! Bravo! I think you've just started a trend in the MINI community (saw your NAM post too).
  22. I am so sorry that I didn't make it up there to MoS this morning. I really wanted to go, but believe me, I had an incredibly good reason not to show up. Probably the best reason ever given for missing a Meet N Greet. I don't want to go into it.
  23. Umm... that (the 28th) going to conflict with the annual meeting. Bummer. I was looking forward to seeing t
  24. Kurt - question regarding the MoS Nitrogen service... does it include "top-up" refills for the life of the tires? Just curious. I think I saw that somewhere online (from a BMW dealership, I believe) when I did some browsing on this. Obviously, part of the idea with Nitrogen is that there will be less leakage (as the molecules are larger... no smaller Oxygen molecules in the gas mix to leak out)... but eventually, over time, the tires will probably need a top-up. It would be nice to know I wouldn't have to pay another $69 to do it - at least until I get new tires again.
