HAH! Don't start false rumors now! :hmpf: :reddy:

Oh God... not again! Well... OK, maybe a little, mixed with Mountain Dew.

What mods have you done in preparation for MOTD 11?
Edge replied to RDG_RCR's topic in MOTD 11 (2013)
I realize it was an exaggeration, but I wanted my fellow MINI owners to understand that the Elise really takes handling to an entirely different level. As for my mods, at this point, getting my car horn working properly again is the main one I'm worried about. I have a couple other long overdue mods I want to finally get done but they are going to have to wait until after MOTD. -

Edge replied to RDG_RCR's topic in MOTD 11 (2013)
I've driven an Elise before. I can sum it up in two words: "Pure sex". Unbelievable machine. Makes our wonderful-handling MINIs seem like pickup trucks. They stick like nobody's business. Word to the wise for those going for a ride (although I'm sure Tyler will communicate this to them clearly)... getting in and out of an Elise is a challenge in itself. The proper way is to turn sideways, facing away from the car, and sit, then swivel your legs in to the car. Under no circumstances are you supposed to use the windshield to brace yourself for entry & exit, because you can very easily crack the windshield. The entire car is designed for light weight, not strength! -
Yep, that's me! I was probably headed to/from the Garage Mahal.

I had a great time - thanks for organizing it, Ali! I have a feeling that most folks will be enjoying a sleepy food coma tonight after all that food!

Thanks Ali! (and Mark)

Hey, I didn't say what time today. RSVPs are now open! Remember, we have a hard cap at 50 people. I have updated the event details in the main post at the top, and I have also uploaded the route sheet for this year's event. In addition, I have attached the waiver form to this message (I'll also link to it in the main event post). All non-member drivers will be required to sign and submit this form before participating. We will have them at the event - I just wanted to provide the form in advance, so people can read it ahead of time, if they like... or even print it out and bring it along with them, already signed. Finally, I am looking for experienced volunteers for the following: Lead navigator - will ride with me and help keep me on course, as well as relaying turns & upcoming hazards over the radio back to the rest of the group. Group relays (2) - will drive between the 3 main groups and relay important information back and forth (upcoming turns, turn completions, hazards, etc) Sweeper - This person is the car in the very rear of the group, and helps to ensure nobody gets lost or left behind Ideally, the group relays and the sweeper should also have a passenger who can keep an eye on the route sheet, in case any part of the group gets separated from the rest... but it isn't mandatory. Looking forward to the event - only 2 weeks to go! :top: Waiver - Spring Fling 2013.doc Waiver - Spring Fling 2013.doc

I like their transparency effects!

Quitta, You are not going to find any spare wheel that will fit those huge front brakes, short of an extra full size wheel & tire. They are just too big! Instead, what a lot of people do is buy the space saver spare, and if they ever get a flat tire on the front, they jack up the car, remove the rear wheel, move that wheel to the front, and then put the space saver spare on the rear. Whoever you saw post about doing the opposite (moving a front wheel to the back, and putting the space saver on the front), had it backwards. It's just the reality of the situation. The big brakes are worth it though!

I PMed Craig earlier today, Ali. :top:

The practice run for the Spring Fling has been completed (thanks for your help, Hilary!), and everything looks good. Griffin Tavern has asked that we cap the number of people at 50 though, so please be aware that I will close the RSVPs once we reach 50 "Yeses", unless people drop off again, in which case I will temporarily re-open them. The RSVP system will be opened for this event on Sunday, April 7.

I might be up for it too. I know, skepticism about me getting up early... but I mean it!
-
I liked it, but I think it loses something without having actual people in it doing goofy stuff. To me, the magic fun of this phenomenon is the people.
-
If anyone is thinking of participating but doesn't know what kind of funny/goofy getup they would do... I have a Where's Waldo costume that I'll be happy to lend someone for the video. It simply comprises a shirt, hat/beanie and fake glasses.

The one and only!

Even though I really like my badges, seeing the Office Space video that Alan posted somehow brought to mind this quote from Blazing Saddles:
-
Hey folks... don't forget that with each date/time change for this event, the existing RSVPs were erased. If you still want to come on the new date, you'll have to RSVP again!
-
Indeed it does. That badge was a gift from Laura (GreenCactus) though, and I don't recall where she said she got it. I'm sure she will chime in when she sees this.
-
Welcome to the DCMM forums, George! We hope you like it here and consider joining the club as a member, too. Come out to an event and meet us!
-
At the lunch on Saturday, when talking about George the Bulldog, I mentioned a particular TV ad back in the 1st Gen heyday that was really fitting. Well, I found it online - enjoy!
-
Sounds good! The other problem with the 17th is that that is the actual St. Patrick's Day... I think the 23rd works best. Melissa - since you're the event organizer, you should be able to go ahead and edit the event itself (including changing the date), using Event Options, Edit Event. :top:
-
It wasn't going to be a conflict... we'd start at the M&G then head over to Lost Rhino afterwards, which is only ~5 minutes away from MoS. The thing is though, because that weekend is St. Patrick's Day weekend, it seems like we'll probably have them on separate weekends. M&G one Saturday, Lost Rhino the following Saturday. That's 2 trips to Sterling instead of one... but like I said, it's worth it!
-
That works for me. A shame that it won't line up with the Sterling Meet & Greet, but an extra trip to Sterling for Lost Rhino is always worth it!

This all happened on Sunday, April 24, 2005... only 7 1/2 weeks after I picked up my brand new MINI. Alan (<a href="http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/member.php?u=2" rel="external nofollow">Scavenger</a>), who was getting his first exposure to the MINI, came along as my co-pilot.</p> <p> </p> <p>Meeting in the Sterling Wegmans parking lot (near MINI of Sterling), it was fun to meet a whole bunch of like-minded MINIacs all at once, for the first time. Little did I know just how much fun there was still to come... after grabbing some coffee and/or breakfast snacks from Wegmans.</p> <p> </p> <p>The roads were beautiful and twisty, and was such an awesome experience to be in a long line of MINIs for the very first time. We stopped for lunch at Orlean Market <span style="color:#000000;">in Upperville, VA</span> (in western Fauquier County), then continued on for wine tasting at Naked Mountain Vineyard & Winery after that, before heading all the way back to Wegmans.</p> <p> </p> <p>It was a long day (128 miles or so!), but <strong>so</strong> nice. Needless to say, I was eager to do this run again.</p> <p> </p> <p>Our lunch stop will be again be at <a href="http://www.griffintavern.com/" rel="external nofollow">Griffin Tavern</a>, since Orlean Market closed down a number of years ago. Unfortunately, due to the size of our group, we will be a more selective and limited menu than their regular menu, but they will still have their famous Shepherd's Pie and other classics.</p> <p> </p> <p><span><strong>NOTE:</strong></span><span> The plan is to have </span><span><strong>1 check per table</strong></span><span>, so to make things easier to sort out, please bring sufficient cash to cover your portion of the check.</span></p> <p> </p> <p>For those interested or curious:</p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/dc-metro-minis-archive/39093-dcmm-sunday-drive-and-brunch-sunday-april-24-10-00-am.html" rel="external nofollow">Original Spring Fling thread (2005)</a></p> <p><a href="http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/dc-metro-minis-archive/131437-sunday-apr-6th-and-20th-spring-fling-2008-sunday-drive-and-brunch.html" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2008 thread</a></p> <p><a href="http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/showthread.php?t=286" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2009 thread</a></p> <p><a href="http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/showthread.php?t=840" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2010 thread</a></p> <p><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=45131+Columbia+Pl,+Sterling,+VA+20166&daddr=Loudoun+County+Pkwy+to:Ryan+Rd%2FVA-772+to:VA-860%2FWatson+Rd+to:US-50+to:Lime+Kiln+Rd%2FVA-733+to:Mountville+Rd+to:Foxcroft+Rd%2FVA-626+to:38.969557,-77.73635+to:Pickering+St+to:Atoka+Rd%2FVA-713+to:Atoka+Rd%2FVA-713+to:Grove+Ln%2FVA-55+to:Grove+Ln%2FVA-55+to:Free+State+Rd%2FVA-721+to:659+Zachary+Taylor+Hwy,+VA+22627&geocode=%3BFYU9UwIdQRRi-w%3BFRjuUgIdI0Bh-w%3BFeNQUwIdCzRg-w%3BFVSSUgId6rNf-w%3BFRajUwIdLW1f-w%3BFVhfUwIdiwVe-w%3BFeU4UwId3YVd-w%3B%3BFbicUgIdvc5d-w%3BFaa4UgIdurxc-w%3BFR6uUgIdxLRc-w%3BFfuJUQIdPidb-w%3BFX8JUQIdZ51b-w%3BFeRiUAId3Ftb-w%3B&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0,1&mrsp=8&sz=18&via=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10,11,12,13,14&sll=38.969006,-77.736731&sspn=0.003032,0.004013&ie=UTF8&ll=38.863236,-77.711792&spn=0.621262,1.058807&z=10" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2010 Morning Route on Google Maps</a></p> <p><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=659+Zachary+Taylor+Hwy,+VA+22627&daddr=Hume+Rd+to:Leeds+Manor+Rd%2FVA-688+to:Leeds+Manor+Rd%2FVA-688+to:Blueridge+Mountain+Rd%2FVA-601+to:Snickersville+Pike%2FSnickersville+Turnpike%2FVA-734+to:Jeb+Stuart+Rd%2FVA-630+to:39.050085,-77.734559+to:Snickersville+Turnpike%2FVA-734+to:Loudoun+County+Pkwy%2FMoran+Rd%2FOld+Ox+Rd%2FVA-606+to:45131+Columbia+Pl,+Sterling,+VA+20166&geocode=%3BFVqeUAIdiDNY-w%3BFZjjUAIdFuJZ-w%3BFSm8UQIdw9ZZ-w%3BFSBfUwIdrmZa-w%3BFSHAVAIdZ25c-w%3BFRf1UwIdLspd-w%3B%3BFUw7UwIdPHxe-w%3BFdsqUgIdFiph-w%3B&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=1&mrsp=7&sz=16&via=1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9&sll=39.052335,-77.733314&sspn=0.012114,0.01605&ie=UTF8&ll=38.863236,-77.711792&spn=0.621262,1.058807&z=10" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2010 Afternoon Route on Google Maps</a></p> <p><a href="http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1413" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2011 thread</a></p> <p><a href="http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1952" rel="external nofollow"> Spring Fling 2012 thread</a></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=832&d=1366758233" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2013 Route Sheet</a></p> <p><a href="http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=817&d=1365350386" rel="external nofollow">Spring Fling 2013 Waiver Form</a> (for non-member drivers)</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>NOTE: All non-member drivers are expected to sign a waiver before participating.</strong></p> <p> </p> <p><strong>NOTE #2: Due to severe size limitations from the local wineries, we do not participate in wine tasting any more. </strong>However, you are welcome to order yourself a glass of wine with lunch at Griffin Tavern. </p> <p> </p> <p>Hope to see many of you out there again!</p> <p> </p> <p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong>Our lunch stop (Griffin Tavern) has </strong></span><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong>given us a hard cap of 50 ADULTS, so if we reach that number, RSVPs will be closed.
