Thank you both, Craig & Lona, for setting that up. It was a great way to spend a few hours on Sunday afternoon! :top:

All dealerships are going to be more expensive than 3rd party shops. Apples and oranges, really. As for MINI of Sterling (MoS), they went through some rough patches but I think they are pretty solid now, for a dealership. Passport MINI of Alexandria (PMoA) is also very good. If you still want the work done by a dealership but are concerned about the MoS quote, take the car to PMoA to get a second opinion. If you aren't set on having a dealer do the repairs, there are a number of 3rd party shops around that will definitely be cheaper. I won't speak to those as almost all service I do is at a dealership, in spite of the prices.

PM sent with unusual offer.

Nice. I take the 1st on blowing by everyone.

Another tip: Don't expect to actually be out of there at 4:30pm. In the autocross school we did in March, we only got to the "students work the course, instructors drive" section by then. It kinda sucks to have to work the course after a long instructional day, but I understand - all of the instructors have just given their day to the students, so they should be entitled to have a little fun at the end. I'm just saying - be flexible, and don't be a stickler about the time if it runs over a bit. You'll have more fun if you go in with a relaxed attitude.

The best marketing campaign that MINI has ever done was the "MINI Confidential" campaign. Freaking amazing. It turned regular owners like us into "spy sleuths". Total blast. I'm sure it cost them a pretty penny, too.

Chris: Yes, you're reading it wrong. Dale was making a compliment. What he was basically saying is that he wishes his photography was good enough to equal the work he has seen here. He'd be very happy if he was -able- (legitimately, for real) to claim any of these photos as his own work. Not that he would do so, because they aren't... but he wishes his photography met that standard. Make sense now? I agree with him... these are all phenomenal! My complete lack of artistic talent is disappointing sometimes. At least I can be proud of my technical work instead.
-
Craig - please note that at no time was I trying to excuse his lack of communication. I agreed (and still do) that it is unprofessional. I was merely trying to give likely reasons why the work has not been completed. That's a separate issue from lack of communication. It's up to Mark and Ali what they want to do. I have offered to try to facilitate if they like, especially as I have work waiting on Todd too... but ultimately it's their call.
-
Yeah, with MOTD, MINI United (in France!) and MTTS all back-to-back, I'm not surprised that Todd hasn't had much time to get the work done. I too made a request for some work from Todd while at MOTD (nothing major - replacement stickers from the original 2006 MTTS), and he hasn't had time to do mine either. That all being said, even if the schedule simply hasn't allowed time to get it all done (and likely won't until after MTTS is over), I agree that a sheer lack of communication is a serious problem. My suggestion - wait until late next week, after MTTS (he's on the road with the group now, I believe he's going all the way to California and then driving back home to Kansas)... then hit him up again. I'm also willing to reach out to him on behalf of all of us, if necessary. I have his cellphone number.
-
That sucks. I definitely look forward to catching up, Jason!
-
...and you're on Verizon. ...and you don't mind competing for the 2 or 3 working slots at any given time. (It's a microcell, hosted on their Internet connection... not a real cell tower)
-
Yep! That's how I met and befriended you (Katie) at MOTD3 in 2005! (Katie had a 2 bedroom cabin and I took the extra room. I hadn't even met her in person yet!)
-
I'm not sure why you said that? Perhaps you misread what was posted (six wheels for sale, not four) to think he meant 16" wheels? I'm slightly renaming the thread to reduce confusion.
-
...unless you have a 1995 or older vehicle, which pre-dates OBD II. (my 1995 Mustang GT still needs the treadmill for emissions testing)
-
No emissions testing for you, this is true. You still need to get your car past the annual safety inspection, though.
-
Good point, rural areas are exempt from emissions testing. In Virginia, vehicles must meet state emissions inspection requirements if they are garaged in one of these localities: Counties: Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford Cities: Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, Manassas Park Source: Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles
-
Maryland still has it lucky. You only have to pass inspection ONCE, unless the car is sold/transferred. In Virginia, you have to pass it every single year, plus emissions every 2 years.
-
Let the drinks start flowing! I'm bringing Dave too, so be sure to account for that on the RSVP (I updated mine on the dinner event).

Yes, I believe they will. Same doors. Since yours is pre-refresh (02-04), it is a good match.

I've edited the event info to reflect that. No more confusion!
