  1. The folks at PTuning won't have nice things to say about Jan after the mess of an install he left me with (he provides excellent parts/kits but the installers he uses are suspect at best), he's also got an unorthodox tuning method that had PTuning raising their eyebrows while we were watching Jan doing a remote tune touchup. A remote tune is going to be a bit more expensive because you'll have the remote tuning computer you'll have to purchase as well. Jan's prices on these are $350 for tuning fees on an R53/$500 for R56 and his remote tuning ECU flash kit/computer $315 for R53/$369 for R56 and the dyno fees at whatever shop you hook up. Though if I remember correctly, he can just do a canned tune with the above parts. If you're willing to wait, he does tuning parties from time to time around and can get you ironed out in person. (Seems like a couple years back he did one at MVP.) There's usually a good discount on the dyno time (and I believe a bit of a discount on his tuning time as well) when he does that. That being said, if we got enough people interested we could probably get one of the big mini tuners (Jan, Way or someone else) to fly out for a tuning party. Jan does do tunes for gen 1 and gen 2 minis and I'm sure Way does as well. Though being the end of the season I suspect most folks would prefer to wait for next spring/early summer to line something like this up.
  2. I'm running a custom tune and a few more mods. . .what would you like to know? Looking for the process how to get it done? Who can do it? Where to get the best tune? Other parts you should get in the upgrade path for best performance? Jan at RMW and Way at WMW (and a few others) both offer custom tunes and if you want to go the custom route you should keep an eye out. Rumor has it, the mini is a relatively difficult vehicle to tune because of the "learning" ecu. . .it tries to work it's way around the changes you've made. I know PTuning offers tuning services but I don't know what their familiarity is with tuning the mini but I have really thrilled with everything they've done to my car. I'm running an RMW tune. I know there's at least one other running an RMW and another running a WMW but I'll let them chime in. I have a love hate relationship with Jan and RMW. He will get you ironed out but it may take a while and the more complicated your setup is the longer it will take. He's also a cantankerous pain in the boot. But his tunes are really good and once he gets it right, it's awesome. There used to be a number of "tunes in a can" like the Alta Accessport among others. These are more generic tunes that will make things better but not tweak things perfectly for the eccentricities of your car. I had been running an Accessport on my old subaru and it did an absolutely amazing job on there and probably took 5-10 minutes to do the tune upload. On the other hand subarus are incredibly receptive to tunes so it worked really well. I haven't heard how happy people are with those on the mini. All said and done, since you have a pretty basic and standard set of mods. A tune in a can may be the best bang for the buck. And once you add some more mods, you can remove the tuning unit and get some if not all of your investment back out of it (I actually bought my accessport used on ebay and sold it for what I paid for it after using it for a year.) Once you do a head and cam, absolutely get that custom tune and it won't even feel like the same car.
  3. Aaaaand sold! Catalina's dad is the proud new owner of the toolbox! (Thanks Catalina!)
  4. I'm selling a very very lightly used stanley fatmax rolling tool bin. I bought it for hauling tools up and down from my apartment to the parking garage. It works absolutely wonderful for that. . .but it's just too hard to roll down a short flight of stairs with a full load of tools. I didn't get it returned to home depot in time to get a refund. I paid $79.99 for it. Home depot has it on sale at the moment for $49.99. Yours for $30! Since i'm too lazy to link photos, here's a link to my dropbox folder for the fatmax: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ahy259f9p811v6t/h53ldvlX3d
  5. I've got a MiniFini on Alice (R53), have a bike rack and a trailer hitch. I've been pretty happy with it. Be happy to let you take a look at the setup. I've hauled some pretty big loads with it (including a 10' Uhaul from Kansas to DC)
  6. I don't need 'em but i'll chime in saying they're a great part and are a great fix/preventative measure for mushroomed shock towers. I've got a set myself and I love 'em! Good luck with the sale!
  7. Saw an orange R52 in Rosslyn last night when walking to the metro and was waving like a fool. . .turns out it wasn't Tigger and Ali. Driver looked at me like I was insane.
  8. Did you check to see if the fan is kicking into high speed? I just had my system gone over and the mechanic said that there's a low and high setting. . . Also. . .is the air blowing out the vent as hard as it should? Might there be an obstruction in the airpath? (Not likely but worth a look.)
  9. I'm leaving this AD here but have posted everything up on NAM. Thanks again everyone for looking! And extra thanks for buying a few things!!
  10. Sweet! It's a huuuge mod for the R53!
  11. I hope so, I know she keeps me around for *something*.
  12. My girlfriend doesn't think I'm funny either.
  13. Partridge blew a head on a dyno run, isn't worth salvaging. Pear tree isn't worth anything without the partridge. If you'd like the scraps, you're welcome to them
  14. Nooooo, these are all my spares and extra parts left over from upgrades. Just not enough room to store everything in the apartment and most of the OEM parts don't do me any good anymore.
  15. All parts are for the R53 unless stated otherwise. I want to give you guys first stab at these so I'm listing these here first and will post everything up on ebay/NAM/Craigslist in a week or so. Rather than individually post pics they are all posted in this dropbox link (I still need to upload some of the pics.) The RMW exhuast pics are in a seperate folder at the top of the screen. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qjh23k98z1kme58/9bLq5oJAS8 Performance Parts: $275 ($325 new) - RMW 550cc injectors (if you're doing something big, you'll need bigger injectors. . .Absolutely need a custom tune to use these) $100 ($135 new) - M7 Thermal Gel Intercooler Heat Shield (fits between the intercooler and the intake, helps prevent heat soak) $200 ($265 new) - Standard Voltage Intake - Brand new, needs painted (Has a crappy rattle can paint job) $250 ($400 new) - Custom Voltage Intake - Brand new, hyper blue with custom built 3" intake tube + silicone reducer if you need it. 16. Nice to see I'm not the only one here with ADD!
  17. Sooo you talkin' a little trunk jack that you keep in the boot? Something bigger?
  18. ~$1700 for a hand fabricated race exhaust is a really good deal esp if it's stainless. Once you figure in bending, fitting, welding for hangers, flexpipe, cat, mufflers and tips; that's a *lot* of hours of fabrication then tack parts on top of that and it adds up quick. Though Rocko is an R56 rather than an R53 isn't he, that drops the complexity down quite a bit.
  19. Holy crap! For a custom exhaust that's practically free! PTuning. . .out of curiosity, do you do TIG welding on stainless?
  20. Did not know that, learn something new every day. Also +1 on the craftsman torque wrench. Give ebay a go, I picked up my craftsman digitork (clicky wrench) for about 1/3 retail.
  21. The parts cleaner was designed for that, ~24 hours and they'll be clean, bright and shiny. I've even got a sifter tray to separate them from the media. Downside is I'm out of town and won't be back until July 1. If you can wait until then I'd be happy to hook you up. Cheers!
