No, you're not. If you're military, for example, you can register your car in whatever state your home of record is. Between your drivers license, car tags, and insurance, 2 of the 3 must be from the same state. Also, if you own a home in another state, and you spend a certain percentage of your time there, you could also register your car in that state and be fine. So, it's not as cut-and-dry as you make it sound. I'm not a lawyer, but I've got some personal experience with this. If you have sources that state otherwise, please share them. -Jim

USB & mini stereo plug to connect an iPod
carman63 replied to Bert's topic in Maintenance & Modifications
I found this during a google search: http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/498645207-For-BMW-Mini-Cooper-iPod-iPhone-3GS-3-4-G-USB-AUX-Cable-Black-wholesalers.html I have no idea if it or the seller is reliable. But it shows that there are alternatives. -Jim EDIT: Found this one, too: http://compare.ebay.com/like/160496225042?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y -
I had 2 Clubmans, both without the alarm system. My wife's R57 was ordered with the alarm (probably one of the packages). I never had problems with anyone messing with my Clubman, save for a failed attempt to steal a mirror cap. See my PM for a bit more info... -Jim

That's gonna be a little while. Need to get a tire out of storage to mount. Also will need to get the license plate assembly wired up. So, shortly before MTTS.

I'll snap a photo or 2 tomorrow. -Jim

Considering we lost a wheel/tire thanks to a pothole, the MINI FINI might just save our bacon next time
-
Bender, my wife's MINI, got a swath of Paul Smith stripes across the roofline, to match the scuttles. He also was the proud recipient of a MINI FINI system, to hold a full-size spare tire. In case he meets another pot hole. Jennifer won a wind blocker from MINI Skirts, apparently. I was hoping for the V1 personally, but hey.

I've got Black Wow and Sonax, if you'd like to try both/either. That way you can draw your own conclusions I personally don't like BW as much as I do my Adams VRT, mainly because it takes 2-3 times as long to apply BW and to me it doesn't seem to last any longer than VRT. I'm still getting a feel for Sonax. It does give you a visual indicator that it's doing something (turns from fluorescent green to blood red) but you may find you still have to use a brush to get the tough stuff - just like any other wheel cleaner. Maybe I didn't leave it on long enough? I'll be giving Sonax another test this week, weather permitting. -Jim

Hi folks :wavey: The pothole is between the 120 and 116 mile markers, the far left lane. There's a construction / congested area right before the pothole. We slowed down to about 20-25, then once we cleared the congestion and sped back up, we found it. The lanes are concrete, and the hole kind of blended in until I was right up on it, with no chance to swerve or change lanes (cars next to me). We stopped in Polaski, VA and a little over an hour later the truck arrived and towed us to Flow MINI in Winston-Salem. We got there about 2:30 - they close at 3 - and the Service Dept took us right in, and hooked us up. Was an expensive detour, but we're doing fine now. BTW, if you hadn't heard. The State Troopers were out in full force yesterday. I got popped (79 in a 70) and get to pay the man They weren't giving warnings, but in my situation I was kind of boxed in, all of us going about the same speed, and I somehow got 'tagged'. Oh well. Watch your speed, and watch for potholes!

I tend to look at where I'm going to be spending the majority of my time, and concentrate on that. Since most of my time will be in a car, or a building, I pack to be comfortable in those environments. If you're gonna spend a lot of time in the elements, then yeah you need to be ready for whatever Mother Nature can throw at you. Light weight and easily packable are optimal

Not to get TMI, but there are certain articles of clothing that I set aside just for trips. T-shirts that are about ready to be tossed, for example. And I'll take those items on trips, and toss 'em along the way. That way I have room for souvenirs (like a new t-shirt ) or whatever. Depending on the trip's duration / location, you can always send your stuff ahead (or send home) via USPS, UPS, etc.

I've been amazed at what all Laura was able to pack into Cricket  We're using MOTD as a test-run for MTTS, as we've never tried to do a long trip with just the R57.

Based on prior years, there will be buckets and hoses there. There 'might' be soap. Prima Car Care will be there, so you can always buy products from them - they may even have samples to try. OutMotoring I believe sells some Griot Garage items. If you have the space, here's what I'd take: Small bucket (an empty/clean cat litter bucket works great) MF drying towels Sponge, wash rag, whatever you normally use to wash with Detail spray and/or waterless wash Brush (for wheels, wheel wells) Glass cleaner Small container of car wash soap (Target has small TSA-approved bottles for $1 in the travel section. Put your favorite car soap in one.) 3-4 MF towels for touching up, cleaning glass, etc. If you want to get fancy, you can pick up one of these: http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-355-adams-sampler-pack-dvd.aspx I bought a few of these when they were only $15. I probably have a spare kit sitting around. I wouldn't bother trying to wax/detail while you're there. I probably have a cat litter bucket if you want it - and are willing to come part-way to me to get it pre-Dragon (meaning, today or tomorrow for me). Everything mentioned on the list can be stored in the bucket Edited to add: Target also sells small flat boxes that will hold an ample supply of MF clothes. Between that, and the detail kit mentioned above, you can keep an emergency detail kit in your MINI at all times - with little space needed!

Which dealer? I've had similar results with MoS.

Those are R112's Other than the lil typo, they are the standard JCW wheel. -Jim

You should have cards ready to toss at a moment's notice We even keep 'tag' cards in the 2 non-MINIs for such occasions. (Jennifer insisted I have some in the new Golf )
