  1. wish I wasn't traveling. I need to make the next one
  2. Pulled the head out of the molasses bath today after two weeks. Powerwashed, baked at 200 degrees for 30 minutes (don't tell brandy), taped, painted, and oiled. Sorry Ali no orange decided to go with year collect black. just need to replace a valve guide on cylinder one and it will be ready to reassemble. for the guide I plan to heat the block and freeze the guide, hopefully that gives enough play to press it in with my 3 ton press.
  3. Gen 2
  4. I didn't get to name my car, Brandy told Ali she like Watson, and that made it offical.
  5. and it's about two inches longer than that smart car of yours.
  6. I left this with the block and head going down for a molasses bath. I decide to take a peak and see how it was doing today. This was what I found when I popped the top, I guess that means its working Here are the pieces hosed off they are sqeaking clean, but going to drop for another week to finish off the trouble rust spots in the water jackets and thermostat housing. Very impressed with the results of a $10 bottle of molasses and some water versus $150 to have it hot tanked. hope to be painting them next weekend:top:
  7. Came across this sweetie, while doing my saturday morning craiglisting. Looks clean, and all the little odds and ends have been done to make it a reliable weekend toy. http://charlottesville.craigslist.org/cto/4652577766.html
  8. Sounds like we may need a "Beezle Bing" party
  9. Only have the driver and passenger door handles left on brandy's mini and all chrome gone:top:
  10. That's the currency I work for as well
  11. sure, and i will tell everyone its a hemi:rock:
  12. Well as I see some yellow in the leaves, it was time to decide on my winter project. I picked up a 1098cc engine with a manual transmission a while back, as an upgrade from watson's current 998cc and automatic transmission. I broke it all the way down and it has been sitting in tubs under the work bench. I decided it would be a good winter project to rebuild. So here is what is looked like when i got it. So I started the prepping the block and head this weekend. bare block and head with 46 years of paint, grease, and grime After degreasing Now down for a two week molasses bath to get rid of all the surface rust and scaling in the water jackets. I swear there is a block and head in that oozs somewhere. Here is the link to all the photos to anyone interested further. http://s1299.photobucket.com/user/buckshot2191/library/Watson/1098cc%20rebuild
  13. Thanks, are you thinking white or green
  14. Anytime you are just around the corner.
  15. I passed a few Minis on my 24 round trip to Jacksonville, NC and back. I will say when I see a MINIs driving 5 mph under the speed limit in the left lane, that Sarah Mclauklin song from the ASCA commercials plays in my head as I pass.
  16. No I was agreeing with Laura comment of "bringing it", and ment Catilina wins every year so someone needs to beat her. Now I do have to take a double take at the screen name now that the both have beautiful BRG MINIs on the signatures. Ali I have Brandy to tell me what I am thinking I don't need you too:rofl:
  17. One of us needs to knock Catalina down a peg:laugh:
  18. I work for blue moon
  19. I used Valspar's "the perfect finish" line. it is an interior/exterior paint with primer, but really just plain old rattle can. For the mirrors, handle, gas cap, and scoop I used the same paint, but also put a clear coat over. Also I wet sanded the base and clear coats.
  20. you say that till the next day when you are washing a mist of oil off your car.
  21. Not a bad idea. I tend to lay back due to stopping distance more than keeping up, 7 inch drums don't stop quickly from 60mph compared to newer MINIs. We had a brake check last year on the woodrow wilson bridge, that had a lot of brake pumping once it reach celia and I at the back.:afraid:
  22. Picture as requested, door handle beezles done also.
  23. :bootyshake: to both steph and brandy. Dash all back in this morning and with an extra splash of color. Bonus I did not have any leftover screws at the end:rock::elephant:
  24. There is a large parking lot out back that everyone parks in. I am sure one of the board members has a fancy map that shows the right parking lot they can post, I think they did last year.:top:
