  1. Oh... you will fit right in with this group. Hey? Who is supposed to bring the DCMM Kool-Aid for the newer members?
  2. You can find a limited selection at Best Busy but the best selection and prices are online. There have been a number of discussion here. You can search radio or 2-way and here is a recent posting by Edge... http://dcmetrominis.org/forum/topic/2241-2-way-radio-wsub-channels/?do=findComment&comment=27240
  3. On the Beltway... road kill - check wildlife sightings - check cows - you never know bikers - check (hopefully no bicyclists thought) potholes - with all the constructions... definitely tanks and other military vehicles on and off flatbeds - check space craft sightings - there was this strange shape on a flatbed this past year. oversized trucks being passed by a line of "mean" MINIs - hopefully not on a Sunday morning. LEOs - yes Waving fans taking pictures from overpasses... hopefully a few if I can convince them to get their sorry ..... out of bed.
  4. I thought we were going to circle the MINIs and herd us up some beef... http://www.beltwaybeef.com
  5. This is not a problem. We are not doing a run through the wilderness with a bunch of twisties. Well, there is the on ramp and then there is that part between Georgia Ave. and 270 (below the Mormon Temple).... Sometimes people will have an extra that they are willing to loan out (since the the 2-ways usually come in sets), just make sure you return it to the owner when you get to the end of the run (lunch). Not having a 2-way only means that you are not hearing the conversations and comments... about why we had to stop or pull over to the side of the road, who we are waiting for, that &%@ SUV messing up the photo-op by breaking in our line, the minivan "with an obnoxious amount of stick people on the back window", the %)@$# farm combine going 3 mph ahead of us, Marco.... Polo, etc. They do add to the fun and experience but are not required.
  6. As a Staten Islander, born and raised and going back 7 generations, I want to thank everyone for thinking about Staten Island and the NY and NJ area. Staten Island is about the size of DC and really got punched. My high school is less than a mile from the impacted areas facing the Atlantic and some of my relatives (not in the flooded areas) still don't have power from the first storm (Sandy). And my parents got their power back after 4 days only to loose it with the nor'eastern this week. I have been trying to convince them to come down here but we Irish are a proud and stubborn lot. Thanks again! :congrats:
  7. Got a nice wave from MINIBEE on the Wiehle Ave. over pass. He followed me on to the Toll Road - West and we maintained a reserved speed (speed trap central). He went north on 28 and I went south. Best wave I have gotten in weeks. So many people just don't get it.
  8. Michael, Carmen, and Drill Bit (I like the name... a lot! :top: ) Welcome! If you will be working in Arlington I recommend looking in Arlington, DC, or close in Fairfax Co. (inside the Beltway). There are many factors to consider but usually budget and wants are top on the list and this area can be VERY expensive. We are also knows for some of the worst traffic in the nation. I live in Montgomery Co. Maryland and have worked downtown (DC), in Crystal City (Arlington), Tysons Corner (Fairfax Co.), Herndon, and now Reston. I cannot speak about Arlington but I can recommend doing your research and ask a lot of questions and listen to what people are saying. You have a great resource here and people from all over the DC area. Good Luck. :itsme:
  9. We had a great time at the party but after leaving Passport MINI we were on 395 South to the Beltway and on the ramp picked up something that punctured Ernie's left rear tire. :banghead: I was able to pull over in a safe area on the right shoulder of 495 North and just before I stopped whatever was in the tire came out. The sound was clear and the air then started to come out. We returned to MINI and ~$277 and 2 hours we were back on the road again. Got to give credit to the run flats, they did their job. Passport MINI was great too!
  10. Welcome Scott! and Eva. Yay, another BRG, with a white roof too! (Sorry Mike [Gremlin]). We have to get Eva, Cricket, Ernie and one or two others together for a BRG picture. We can include Gremlin in some shots. Welcome and pull up a chair. Since you have joined DCMM it is a good sign that you are one of us. My name is Bert, Ernie is my car, and I'm a MINIac.
  11. I can order another two for my daughters, if that will help some. Let me get their preferred sizes.
  12. Do you know that there is an app for that, Scarebear https://itunes.apple.com/app/scarebear-trail-companion/id336785189?mt=8 Why pack the bells for the Dragon when you can have it on your iPhone... for those that have an iPhone. :hahaha:
  13. Sorry that we all disrupted your normally quiet, boring Saturdays Celia. It was great to see all who attended on this beautiful day and Victoria and I got to tag Tigger too! :top:
  14. Michael, glad to hear you are ok but I'm sorry for Sonja. I hope she gets back on the road soon. Thanks for sharing the information... hit bambi and it is their fault and not ours.
  15. I've got to see that. Are there pictures on the site? I'll take a look.
  16. Wow, that is riding low in OC. Looks great. Did you scrape on the driveway aprons in OC? They can be a problem.
  17. Glad to hear that it wasn't more than that. :top:
  18. Count me in. It is the first daughter's b-day (not Victoria that a few have met) but we ARE going to celebrate the night before. If I can get her on this run then that will be fun.
