USB & mini stereo plug to connect an iPod
cmcveay replied to Bert's topic in Maintenance & Modifications
I wasn't clear (working on my phone for that post). I actually have this cable in hand, connected and it's working. As I was cutting and pasting that email, I was listening to music from the phone that was connected via that cable and all of my MINI Connected apps work with that cable as well. I don't connect and iPod in the car, I use one of our older 3GS iPhones. I'll connect my 4S and then try the iPad as well. -
Some of are always giving Edge a hard time about being on time. If you know Haemish well, you know that he works really, really crazy hours so there are times when an "arrival time" is more of a suggestion. Well, I want to take his defense. Below is a photo taken at 6:14 a.m. the morning of the panoramic photo at the Dragon. I don't think it even started until about 10:00 a.m. Yes, I'm sure someone will point out the fact that the car may have been left standing on third base all night but enough with the immaturity and just accept it, Mr. OEM was on time for the panoramic photo. I can also vouch for Haemish, he was also on time to serve as a "Field Marshal" herding the cars onto the baseball field. Enjoy!

Did anyone notice the other offensive act taken? The driver/owner replaced the OEM mirror cap with a union jack. I'm sorry but if I'm going to own a special edition like that, I'm not going to change things like that....

USB & mini stereo plug to connect an iPod

Sounds like it didn't come with the iPod interface My daily MacMall email did have this little gem advertised for those who would like a longer interface cable. -
I think I'd pose the same question on NAM or MA. I'm told that at some point, MINI stopped wiring cars for all options and only wired them for the options that they have. That sucks as it made it so much easier to retrofit. While I trust David and respect his wisdom, I also believe in the "Trust but Verify" motto.

USB & mini stereo plug to connect an iPod

You don't have to have the MINI connected to do this, just the iPhone integration with I think is now standard. Just under the lower switches, recessed into the center cubby hole just a bit should be a rectangular "box" on the right side of the cubby hole. The USB port has a cover that slides sideways to protect it and the Aux port is just to the right of the USB. You can use a thumb drive or iPod/iPhone and the head unit will let you select the music. MINI Connected just gives it a little "sexier" interface and adds other creature features. -
What rocket scientist decided to put two bearded guys in a roadster and make a commercial out of it? You are right man, those commercials were pretty weak.

Hey Bert, if you can make it to the M&G on Saturday, remind me to show you the cable that I have. It's working like a champ! I got this cable from Carman a while back and I thought I'd tried it and it didn't work but now, I have it in the car and it's working great. I think it'll be long enough to connect to the car, tuck into the dash panels and reach your phone on the left hand side. -
And that ladies and gents is a first.

NOOOOOO ALI, NOOOOOOOO! Are you actually going to take tips from a Golf Rrrrrrr owner :stupid:? He's playing for the other team, he defected, quit, ran away! Besides, you already spill enough stuff in your backseat and you know the broccoli, cauliflower and eggplant smoothies you make will NEVER go through the drinking tube of a camelback. Finally, the last thing you need is another distraction while driving. Between, singing:boring:, waving:wavey:, Texting:elephant:, cursing :banghead::banghead: your Samsung Droid (you wouldn't be cursing an iPhone) and the rest of the things you do while driving :motor:, I'm worried that you'd be a little too distracted (there's no emoticon for a butterfly) with the drinking tube that is certain to fall down between the seats where you'd be digging for it in beltway traffic... Did I make a strong enough case against this idea for you? :questionmark::questionmark::questionmark::questionmark::questionmark::questionmark::questionmark::questionmark: Did I use enough emoticons?

Congrats to Celia and Stickers!

When I get out past Leesburg, the sound of banjo's gets rather distracting though! It makes me nervous and I keep thinking I'm gonna come across some of my long lost relatives! Lots of good suggestions here though. Someone should consolidate all of this into a list!

I've never used those cup holders in the back seat! I think Quitta put her foot in one of them when I took her and PawPaw for a run down the Hellbender and up the Dragon though! I suspect it was the only way she kept from sliding around back there and I never felt her crashing into the anchors for my harness!

I drive Kirby road to/from work every day and as long as some mini-van or utility truck isn't in front of me, it's so much fun! There's also Pope's Head road between 123 and Clifton road but there's a brief stop at Fairfax County Parkway for the light. Once you are on Clifton, there's not of places to explore in that area.

Jono - Many who install aftermarket horns don't tie them into the horn button on the steering wheel so I felt I should mention that location. Due to the increased amperage draw of the aftermarket horns, it's not a simple swap on them, the Hella's require a relay. When I installed them in Archi, the horns drew power directly from the battery and the power relay (mounted in the front cowl with the battery) was connected to the OEM horn wires. With the 1st Gen, that's complicated just a little because the battery is in the boot but I think you can easily find a hearty 12v source of power up front with very little effort. Mounting, wiring, routing the relay is easy enough.
-
+1 For the Hella's. The install can be a real PITA because the OEM horns are mounted under the passenger side headlight. The best way is to pull the entire front bumper off the car for this install. If done properly, you can even use the OEM horn button to fire those babies up!

So I don't go into a long and drawn out "technical" description again, search the forum here on DCMM for sea foam (or spell it as one word) and you'll find a few posts that give the reason for this. There are some who way it's not worth the effort and that it doesn't do anything but I'll simply point to the fact that the dealer now has a set up in which they pull the intake manifold off the car and use a mild abrasive (ground up walnut shells) and they "blast" the back of the intake valves with it to clear the carbon build up. In my previous MINI, I never had to do that and I give credit to regular sea foam treatments.

I will admit, the cargo net in the boot well of the Clubman isn't as good as the net in the back of the R56. Mainly because, as you pointed out, it mounts an inch or more above the "floor". I actually do use it though and I find that it tends to keep things in place better so they aren't sliding around and clunking into each other as much.
-
I just use regular car wash soap and a little wax and it's all good to go...
-
Ryan - that is the proper way for an R56. If you keep your thumb over the open end of the vacuum hose and dribble the sea foam in, you can keep it running with one person. You just don't want to let it have too much of a hole or it gets too much air, leans out and dies. As Ali said, after the waiting period, start it up and make sure all of your windows are closed and your A/C is on recirc, not fresh air or it'll just pull the smoke right in. Even better, if you can point it head on into the breeze/wind, you won't have to worry about the smoke. Let it run for a couple of minutes, revving it up and then, take it for a drive and keep the RPMs up there. For the next 15 minutes or so, whenever you get the RPMs up, it's gonna smoke a little but it stops pretty quick.

It's not always as simple as it sounds and it's not cut and dried. Military has a very different set of rules and I think we can all agree that elected officials have different rules as well. Most insurance companies will let you insure in more than one state (at least USAA does) so that part isn't too hard. Beyond that, it gets complicated and without knowing ALL of the situation, it's impossible to say what is or isn't right.
