Wow, I actually got some work done today! Hurray!!!!! I'm also crashing on some of my homework so I don't have to worry about it next week and for part of my homework (Journalism class), I'm going to write a feature story about MOTD! I had that brainstorm over the weekend!

+1 on Dale's comment and those that follow. Next time you are looking at tires, there are many brands that actually have a "shoulder" that helps protect the rim from curb rash.

I'm so happy right now! I just realized I'm not Quitta's oldest sibling!

Will it carry a Go Pro camera? Now THAT would be cool!

Well, at least I have class assignments to distract me some of the time. I won't complain about the weather - we really, really need the rain - but it is cramping my style a little. I may be taking a silver roof rack to the Dragon if I can't get it outside to spray it!

Same here. Just found out I have a 2:30 meeting today. Who in their right mind schedules a meeting for 2:30 on the Monday before the Dragon! Don't these people realize there's a major life event coming up and I just don't care about their meeting today or the rest of this week for that matter?

Are you afraid the big bad glutens may get you back there????

Aftermarket radio adapter for second gens
cmcveay replied to TGGRRR (Ali)'s topic in Maintenance & Modifications
The least expensive alternative? Don't bump it and keep your knees to yourself.... If I remember correctly, the RCVR was about $500. It's a 20 minute install with basic hand tools and then 15 minutes on the laptop to code it into the car. That beats the hell out of buying a new double DIN head unit ($200-$300) and I can't even imagine what it would cost to have all of that installed. Just pulling the head unit out of the 2nd Gen takes 3-4 hours at $50-$60 per hour. I could see this costing $1,000 or more for a marginal improvement in sound quality. To improve the sound, I can program out the 100hz cutoff to the rear and then, replace the rear speakers with some quality units (about 2 hours work) and it makes a HUGE difference. -
WE are mean? who spilled green slime in the back seat of their car and didn't clean it all out? Laura offered to clean it for you - that's awfully nice of her and I I put dynamat in there to help the noise for you. If that's mean...

JAB - Brian brought the puller with him and elpollodiablo had the belt tension tool. Those were the only two "special" tools that were needed. To install the new balancer, we heated the inner ring with my industrial heat gun and it slipped right on. Other than those two specific tools, I do have everything else.

If she keeps doing that, we'll take the MINI and make her drive a Yaris! I wouldn't want to abuse a SMART car like that either.

That's 'cause you drive a VW now Mr. "Golf 'er Dude".

Aftermarket radio adapter for second gens

Price - I think you are correct. If you pull the OEM head unit out, you lose all of the OBC functions and the car will probably start showing all kinds of errors mainly because the head unit isn't just for audio, it also displays all kinds of information. I know Ali meant well but this would be a horribly, horribly expensive way to get satellite radio into a 2nd Gen if it wasn't OEM. Right now, you can buy the SAT Radio controller and have it installed for less than $500 and anyone that's doing coding on the cars can program the car to recognize. There's also the option that I took with Archi - add an aftermarket Sirius/XM device, used the OEM antenna and run it into the aux port. Oh, why the heck would you want to give up your A/C controls too! Seems like someone created a product that not many people would really want. There is a guy that will be at the dragon "Schotzy" is his name on NAM and he's got about 3k tied up in the audio system in his R55. The head unit is actually in the secret compartment! To each his/her own but no car is a music studio and I'd rather hear the sounds of the car. -
+476,160 seconds until we leave for the Dragon. +764,080 seconds until MOTD officially starts. -5hours 45minutes since I could concentrate at work...

Quitta was having a similar problem but her's started when she got over XXmph and it would stop at xxMPH. Turns out, she had a bad TPMS sensor. Ryan - if that's what they tell you, check with Jim Carman (username carman) here on DCMM as he has TPMS sensors for 2010 and earlier 2nd Gens.

Seriously and you tell us how much you love your MINI? I'm sorry Ma'am but you are bordering on MINI abuse...

Three cheers for sanity! Glad you made the choice!

Looking forward to seeing lots of shiny cars! The weather looks perfect for this so keep your fingers crossed! If anyone has a small table they can bring, it will help with workspace. Bring grilling food if you like but plan on taking leftovers home with you 'cause we don't want them to spoil!

Yeah, once you see it, I think you'll apologize to every SMART car you've never met.

You skimmed the video. About 17 seconds into the video, they specifically address the crumple zones and they admit that they are small but a crumple zone is only a single factor in passenger protection. Given the airbags, tensioners on the seat belts, the steering column that actually moves to give the driver room in an accident and I must say, I think I think they've done a rather good job. If anyone would like to test a MINI in the same situation, I'm sure I can come up with 20 tons of K rail - you donate the MINI. +1 to all that Haemish said, that car held up amazingly well considering the speed and the type of impact it went through.

I'm a guy. It's not all I'm thinking about. I will admit, I think about it often but it's not all....:embarassed:

I'm 50/50 on making it for Auto X now. We've got a lot of work to get the Condo ready to show and it's not fair for me to leave it all to Lona. I'll know for sure on Friday. If I am able to go, I can throw our pop up in the back of the car so there's room to sit out of the sun. Participants won't have any time to sit around, they'll be working or driving but our spectators deserve to spectate in comfort!

Aftermarket radio adapter for second gens

I'll have to check this video link from home. As far as the 1st Gen's, it's just about like any other car on the road. A single DIN mount and some basic installation skills. Crutchfield even makes an adapter for the wiring! Not so easy on the 2nd Gen and if you have Connected, you basically have to have the two radio systems installed and running at the same time. I don't think the audio (I have the HK option now) is bad at all but then again, I don't drive around sharing my music with everyone inside a 1/4 mile radius either.
