My big piece of advice for new people is to not overbook yourself on runs. You'll want to plan some time to just hang out or go explore spontaneously too.

This!!! My second year I overbooked myself so much I hardly had a moment to rest. Now, I don't sign up for any drives at all!

We don't have a paint vendor. I know @Edge was happy with the body shop he used for Mr OEM. I actually took Tigger to Dale at Hampton roads Maaco because he's so cheap and they do decent work.

The place @Edge used was D&V autobody in Sterling. Michael has used them as well and they do great work. They are NOT cheap, but you get what you pay for.

When Gretchen was rear-ended, I took her to Poolesville Autobody and they did a great job. It was very reasonable (not that I cared, the at-fault insurance picked up the tab). A full bumper repaint was $400 and took about 3 days.

Update for those who have RSVP'd:

The event has been conditionally confirmed for Saturday. MINI of Alexandria will be providing final confirmation Saturday morning by 8:30AM in case they need to cancel due to rain.

I will send out the confirmation just as soon as it is received.

Thanks and hope to see you all there!

The weather looks horrible for Saturday.  :(

I'm a maybe. Michael will probably have autocross that day if the weather is good, so I'll go with him.

I'm remaining a maybe, but it's really unlikely I'll make it. I will try to meet up for lunch or desserts, though.

  5. I really appreciate everyone's input on this.

Michael is putting the Roadster in storage for the winter and decided that it will strictly be a summer car, so no need for winter tires. His winter tires happen to be the exact size I need and they are in great shape. So, I will be going with those and then buying new wheels and summer tires in the Spring.

In case you're curious, the tires are Michelin Alpins. They are really, really good winter tires but I don't think they are available anymore, at least not in the size I need.

  6. We are trying to get rid of the original wheels that came on the Roadster. They are black, 16" 6-Star Twin Spoke Alloy Wheels. They are in nearly perfect condition. They do have tires mounted, the stock Continental All-Season Runflats, but they are pretty much done. You might be able to get a little life out of them, though.

They are currently being stored in Pennsylvania, but we are taking the Roadster up this weekend to put her away for the winter, so it would be the perfect time to bring them back. I don't have any pictures, but here's a link to what type of wheels they are.  https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/BMW-Mini-16-Inch-R119-6-star-Twin-Spoke-Alloy-Wheel-Black-Genuine-6856969/6008067091

These will fit 2nd Gens, but if your MINI is pre-2011, the TPMS is not compatible, so it will always show the low-tire light.

I'm asking $100. They will be available for pickup after 10/22/18 in Poolesville.

  7. I would like to get some opinions on tires. I have to buy new ones as the ones I was going to get from a friend are too big. :(

    Here's what I know:

    •  I want all-seasons (I have had a winter/summers before and while I'd love to do that again, I just don't have the $$ to commit to a new set of wheels right now)
    • I don't care about run flats. I have them now, they're fine, but I carry a plug kit anyway. If they blow out, I'm still getting towed.
    • Size 205/45R/17

They will be going on a 2016 2dr Cooper S.

I currently have the Pirelli Centaurato P7s and I'm not a fan. I don't like how they handle.  I've been looking at the Michelin Pilot Super Sport A/S, but I'd love to hear from "real" people and not just internet reviews.

    Thanks!!

  8. The weather is looking pretty good for Sunday, though it will be quite chilly.  If you aren't sure you want to make the drive all the way out to Poolesville just for polo, here are some other things to do nearby.

    • Rocklands Farm and Winery - 14531 Montevideo Rd, Poolesville MD 20837  www.rocklandsfarmmd.com
    • Lewis Orchard - 18901 Peach Tree Road, Dickerson MD 20842 www.lewisorchardfarmmarket.com
      • They will have a pumpkin cannon on Sunday!
    • Bassett's Restaurant - 19950 Fisher Ave, Poolesville  www.bassettsresturant.net
      • Nice place for brunch or a snack. The bar has TVs and will be showing all the football games. Happy hour specials all day in the bar.
    • Cugini's - 19616 Fisher Ave, Poolesville
      • Pizza and craft beer; $4 craft pints all day. Will also be showing football.
    • Homestead Farm - 15604 Sugarland Rd, Poolesville - www.homestead-farm.net
      • Pick your own apples and pumpkins. They also have a farm market where you can buy already picked fruits and vegetables. Warning: This place gets insanely crowded on nice weekends, so be prepared if you decide to go.
  9.

Due to the rain that just started, this is cancelled. If you’re already in the area, please PM me.

    Event Title: Polo in Poolesville

    Event Date: 10/14/2018 11:00 AM

Event Address: 20760 Whites Ferry Rd, Poolesville, MD, 20837

Seneca Polo Club will be hosting a Polo tournament on October 13 -14.

There will be two games on Sunday. The first one starts at 10:30am and the second, the tournament final, starts at 12:00pm. Each game lasts about an hour.

This is a family friendly event and it's free! You can bring your own food and drinks. There is a pavilion with a real bathroom and comfy chairs. Dogs are welcome, too but must be kept on a leash at all times.

The road to the club is about a mile long and it is gravel. It's in decent shape, but something to keep in mind.

Address: 20760 Whites Ferry Road, Poolesville, MD 20837

    - The polo field is at the very end of the driveway. It's about a mile from the road.

They do not play if it's raining, so this event will be cancelled in the event of rain.

For $15 bucks and no helmet requirement mentions it will be follow the leader with groups of like 5 at a time, with speed dependent on the groups ability to keep up.  If you have someone not keeping their spacing you the track leader will slow the pace.

    Just my low educated opinion.

That makes sense. We had a pace car at Pocono, but they did 65mph. I was the last in the group and got over 100mph and I know the car in front of me did too.

It doesn't look like I'll be going anyway. I would have to leave no later than 6am to get there. That's just not going to happen. :)
