  1. For those that are taking the Ferry (either to the run, in the middle of the run or after the run), please be aware there is a big event going on in the picnic shelter. It is the Poolesville Military Support Group’s Annual Outing to Entertain Wounded Military Personnel and Benefit Fisher House and Yellow Ribbon Campaign. They will be busing in about 100 wounded soldiers, caregivers and family members from Walter Reed and Fort Belvoir. The buses will be escorted by motorcycles that will leave from Cuginis between 10:00am and 11:30am.

This is no way will interfere with our event, but there will likely be a lot more people at the ferry than usual. I expect this to be more of an issue if you are leaving the run early to head back than at any other time.

  2. I'll be there (unless there's a work issue that comes up in the next few minutes...). However, this is why I don't go to happy hours...

Ted's is only 4.2 miles from my office and it will take me 20 minutes (of sitting in traffic) to get there. If I take the HOT lanes, it will cut that in half, if not more, but will be $5. Ugh. I HATE traffic around here!!! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Just venting... I'll still be there. :top:

  3. I completed the final route check this morning and we're good to go for Saturday!!

This was a perfect example of why you need to actually drive the roads and not just rely on a map. Several of the roads that looked to be paved on the map were most definitely not! I lost track of how many times I turned around today. There are NO gravel/dirt/otherwise unpaved roads on the route. The parking lot at the Creamery is gravel, but it's fine, very level and no holes or drop offs.

Craig - I keep reading your RSVP comment as "server ROBOTS"! :)

  4. I've updated the event with the mid-point stop of Rocky Point Creamery

    http://rockypointcreamery.com/

We'll arrive there around 11:30 (when they open), so it shouldn't be too crowded yet.

I'm pushing our departure time back to 10:15 in order to get us there closer to 11:30am.

The parking lot IS gravel, but it should be ok for us. I'm doing the final route check this weekend and I'll update if the lot is going to be any issue for anyone. I've been there a few times before and it was fine.

  5. Here's a link to the FAQ page on tint laws in this area:

    http://dcmetrominis.org/forum/topic/4628-what-are-the-state-laws-regarding-car-window-tint/

Cricket was originally a DC resident, but I wanted tint, so I had it done VA legal (50% all around - I didn't want it darker in the back). I never had an issue with the DC police, but I didn't do anything crazy, either. Now that she's an MD resident, I'd love to get her retinted to 35% all around, but it's expensive (and time consuming) to remove the old tint. :(

  6. Riding the ferry sounds really fun. I'm definitely interested, in either or both directions. Meeting in Leesburg at 8:15, would we make it to Germantown by 9:45? Or would we concurrently run a different route and end up meeting at Cuginis?

You'll make it by 9:45. I'm also flexible, so I'm not going to leave without anyone. We aren't on a tight timeline.

  7. Twisties and Beer Run (Not at the same time!!)

    When and Where:

    10:00am - Meet at Starbucks @ 19724 Germantown Rd, Germantown, MD 20874

    10:15am - Driver's Meeting

10:30am - Depart for Rocky Point Creamery

*Please note the time change to a 10:30am departure!!

It is difficult to see the Starbucks from the road. If you are at the intersection of Germantown Road and Middlebrook Rd, there is a FedEx Office on the corner. That is the shopping center it is in. There is also a Safeway that shares the parking lot with Starbucks.

11:30am - Arrival at Rocky Point Creamery - 4323 Tuscarora Rd, Tuscarora MD, 21790

    12:00pm* - Depart for Cuginis - 19616 Fisher Ave, Poolesville, MD 20837

*Departure time is approximate and flexible!

The total mileage for the run is about 65 miles. Each segment will take around an hour.

Please don't forget to bring your two-way radios. I have extras if you need to borrow one.

  8. Looking forward to hosting the meeting. A big part of our conversation will be hosting the club picnic at my house. We usually do a park but we're trying something new this year

Don't forget, I have a bin full of picnic supplies that are leftover from past picnics and Katie's Spaghetti Dinner. I'm not exactly sure what is in it, but I know there are a TON of paper plates.

  9. No need to panic yet, it's WAY too early. The forecasts are just guesses at this point.

You guys will still have a great time, even if it does rain a couple of days.:motor:

  10. I use Adams products. Odds and Ends Detailing in Sterling sells them or you can get them online from adamspolishes.com. Adam's website has lots of great information included videos and a forum.

Currently my routine is to wash the wheels first. I use the All Purpose Cleaner rather than the wheel cleaner. Then I use the car shampoo in the foam gun and wash with the two-bucket method. After they're clean, I use Detail Spray as I dry the car. Every other wash or so I'll use the H2O Guard and Gloss instead of the Detail Spray.

That's just my basic routine. I'll do more if I have time or the cars need it.
