JustJAY Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 Just wanted to share what I recently purchased, a GoPro Hero HD. It is on a custom towhook mount made for me by cmdrvimes. I did a test video today, but the file is to large and to long for youtube. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Gigi Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 How does a Hero HD differ from a Motorsports Hero Wide Angle? A guy in the club I belong to in Texas is trying to sell his GoPro Motorsports Hero Wide Angle. Box never opened - $175. Do you think it will mount like you have yours shown in the pics? Is $175 a good price?

Is $175 a good price? Well the Wide records in STANDARD resolution where the HD records in HD. The Wide us still a pretty good camera and $175 is not bad, but on amazon.com I have found it for $145 new. As for mounting, it will not mount like mine unless you have someone make you a mount like mine [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Gigi Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 Thanks for the info. I was thinking about mounting a camera to record some of the AMVIV runs. I see now that I need to do a little more prep!

As for mounting, it will not mount like mine unless you have someone make you a mount like mine There's another difference between the two and that is that the HD will take a 32GB memory card (instead of just 4GB for the wide), so you can choose to record in standard (instead of HD) and record a lot more of it Of course, you would need to be plugged into the car rather than just a battery 'cause I think the battery would still only last 2.5 hours. Anyway, that's why - if I get one - I plan on getting the HD version and hooking it up so I can power it from the car. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Gigi Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 How do you power it off the battery if it is mounted on the tow hook?
cameroon Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 How do you power it off the battery if it is mounted on the tow hook? I'm guessing you're meaning off the car power/battery rather than the camera's internal battery? To do that, you'd have to run a custom power circuit down to the tow-hook area. Mostly it'd be a bit of research to do it safely (e.g. running it off a proper fuse, proper weather proofing so it doesn't short, etc.) and then routing of wiring. You could also do a simple external battery pack (like the Minty Boost: http://www.ladyada.net/make/mintyboost/) as long as it provided enough power for the camera. Then it'd be a matter of securing the battery pack so that it didn't fall off. And of course, depending on what you wanted to capture, you could also have it in the cabin - in which case the problem is merely one of wire length I suspect that I'd end up doing all three at some point, heh. JustJAY Posted March 11, 2010 Author Report Posted March 11, 2010 I actually have another mount on the passenger A pillar that captures the driver and passenger. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Gigi Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 Is the A pillar mount a commercially available mount or something custom you fabricated? My guess is that you could hard wire the charging part of the mount and just pop the camera off/on as needed, correct? I hard wired my GPS and Valentine1 mounting brackets. Well, not me personally, but a MINI tech did it for me so that I could stop wrestling with power cords. Life is sooo much better. :dancing:
MINInurse Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Woo hoo!! Jay is going to borrow a friend's GoPro as well for MOTD! So we will be rocking multiple cameras!! Guess we will have to decide what to video!:motor: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] In loving memory of Cecilia
Claymore Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 I just caught up on this thread. Did you use the tow hook mount at the Dragon? How did it turn out?
JustJAY Posted May 4, 2010 Author Report Posted May 4, 2010 Well, I had some installs done at MOTD, and unfortunately, ALL of them were majorly delayed. I was unable to do any sort of driving during the week, but I have driven the Dragon many times, so all is not lost. I will be bringing it with me to events. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
carman63 Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 There were at least 3 of us (DCMM members) on the Dragon with GoPros. We need to get together with our footage and make a compilation or 2. Meanwhile I plan on cooking up a few small clips
cmcveay Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Jim, I'll be happy to dump all of my video's to a DVD for you. Like you, I'm working on putting together a couple of video's to share. 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon "Homer" 2012 MB/CR JCW R55 "Merlin" Sold 2009 LB/LB R56 "Archie" Sold
carman63 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Craig, I need to do the same thing and get you a DVD. Also, I'm going to use one of your clips - based on the time stamp, it's me in your car on the Dragon :top:

Maybe GoPro had some sort of 'authorized sale' going on :questionmark:
Brian0758 Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 I received my GoPro today  and was curious what video software you all use :questionmark: Looking forward to my first run using it:rock: 2012 Jeep Rubicon
