    Hello to all!

I just joined the group and registered for the MTTS, my nephew and I will be enjoying the ride!

Can I get advice on items such as, I wish I would of known that before, or should of brought that, and items you thought you needed and never used. We will be leaving from Prince William Co. headed to Albuquerque, and returning from Seattle.

Welcome! We're happy to have you and hope to see you out there on the road.

The best items I had for my first MTTS in 2022 were:

-My purple waffle seat cushion (I have old bones 😄)

    -Driving gloves

-Gel squeeze ball (Also for the hands)

-Small cooler for snacks & a cold drinks

For 2024 I'm going to add:

    -Paper maps

-Smart water to help with the elevation changes

-Making sure I pick up the paper route sheet at each morning's rally because I found the MINI MTTS driving App hard to follow and would like to have a backup

Brought on 2022 but only used once: Outdoor chairs and my radio (I'll definitely bring my radio on MTTS24 for safety)

I'm planning to leave on July 6, arrive in Albuquerque on July 11. Will spend the off day in Jackson Hole, WY. I registered for Leg 1, only. Will probably go to Bozeman but no further. Will return home from there. I'm fairly new to DC Metro Minis, but this will be my 4th MTTS. My Mini is a red 2010 Clubman S.

We're excited to have you here at DCMM. I think I've chatted with you in one of the MTTS FB groups, happy to have another MTTS veteran heading out there.

Jason & I are still planning to go. All hotels except Seattle are booked.

What day are you both arriving? I'm thinking of doing a DCMM dinner on the night of July 12th in ABQ

My new position does not have the flexibility I had in January, so we have to pull out.  So bummed to miss it.  I cancelled all the hotel reservations this weekend, I was dragging my feet, but there is no way I can be gone from work that long.  😢

This makes me so bummed, glad you're getting to MOTD though, you'll have a blast.

  4. It's a few months later, who is still going to MTTS for sure?

Mike is driving me out to ABQ, our route is pretty much set. Due to my hEDS I can only tolerate days of 7 hours of driving or less, so we're driving slowly to ABQ starting on the 5th

*I'm also doing Lava Hot Springs as my non rally day/overnight on my way to Bozeman. Would be interested to hear what everyone else is doing?

*And lastly, some of us are doing Mt Rainier on 7/21 between Yakima & Seattle and we got the 1:00 entrance time (It's reservation only this summer) if anyone would like to join us.

Sorry to be out of town for our first event as club members and new Mini owners — looking forward to the next one!

We hope we'll see you at the next one.

  6. Ok friends, looks like $1300 is the going rate for shipping our MINIs from Seattle, I called around yesterday and that is the rate I was given as well. They also told me that to fill a truck exclusively with MINIs we would need 7-9 cars, and would need a pick up point and drop off point. I just gave them a Leesburg zip code in order to quote.

  7. I would be in for the Seattle back to the DMV. I'm willing to drive to a central location for pick up. $1000 would be my ideal price range, but that may be unrealistic.

An open trailer is fine by me, but my main concern (Of course) is insurance. Will we have to sign waivers releasing them of all liability if the car is damaged by them? In my research I've found that some carriers make you do this. I'm a little nervous about transport after what happened to Susan K's OG Mini in transit to her, thankfully her carrier is paying for her damage.

  8. I just wanted to thank @Widdie (David) for keeping us all safe yesterday. We had some bad weather that created patchy spots on the roads, but I felt safe during the entire run. Driving on the backroads, with the snow in the trees, was a different kind of beauty, I really enjoyed the drive!

I'm a new member, and excited to join an event! I'm bringing two friends in my mini as well.

We're looking forward to meeting you and your friends! We'll have a brief driver's meeting before we get started. And then off we'll go.

Jill and I have already booked our hotels as well.  I am driving out 2.5 days and Jill is flying to Albuquerque, then back from Seattle.  I would like to have Millie shipped back from Seattle, but have heard it can be difficult to coordinate.  Not sure if anyone (group) would be interested to do the same.  Hotels for the 5ish days back would be close to $750, plus food, fuel, and your time.

I drove to/from Seattle in 2023 and it was a fairly easy drive minus the total days (to Seattle in January).  Only real issue we had was the smoke from forest fires coming back in late August.  If that is happening during MTTS, Jill and I will head East from Bozeman or Missoula depending on fire/smoke locations.

I can do some calling around to get pricing, it looks like the biggest interest is shipping our cars home, so that's where I'll start. I also read that several people's MINI were not delivered in time for the 2022 MTTS and they had to rent non MINI cars for the rally, another good reason to drive out and ship home.

Other people in our area, but not in our club, have also expressed an interest in shipping their cars so I'm confident we could fill a truck.

Monks BBQ is open at flying Aces now, and they can serve cocktails on the brewery side.

    should be a fun trip

They've really went up a notch in their food in the past year, Mike and I really enjoy going to this place, looking forward to this run.

Saw the post on Instagram about rooms opening up at Fontana Village, just called and managed to grab one!  I did not think we would be able to participate this year, so feeling very lucky right now!

Awesome! Glad Corey caught that and we were able to get the notice up on sm before the rooms were all gone.

I’m out for this one. That’s just too far.

Understandable, I've booked my hotels but I'm still on the fence. Mike has said that he will not be joining for this one and I can't drive that much by myself, so we'll see....

Just to be safe we gave the Marriott app a full workout last night and locked in hotels everywhere, except SLC and Seattle since those have lots of options.   Thanks for the update!  Stress level is down now.  Time to start stretching- 2 weeks in the convertible is not the same as if we took the Countryman!  The convertible is just too fun not to take it.

I too am a Marriott warrior, everything is booked except Seattle. Nobody is sure if MINI USA is going to do something in Seattle or not.

And the SLC to Bozeman 2 day stretch. Because we're on our own there, I'm not sure where I might stop, I've been to most of that area before and want to see something new.

Do you plan to drive out?

Do they cap registrations?  Is this one of those things where I have to set an alarm for the second registration goes live?  Love this route, so many places I have wanted to visit… just need to get to the starting point.

They won't cap registrations. The biggest issue will be getting hotels at a later date in some of those smaller cities, like Missoula MT & Yakima WA. If you're even considering going, I'd book hotels with free cancellations sooner rather then later.

Thank for the information. I will try that. Do you have any shop recommendations in the MD. area foror independent shops. I have a Check engine issue with a higher the normal idle PO 0507 that the dealer can't seem to fix. They want $1400.00 to replace throttle body for START and then recheck from there. What a joke. Another shop told me it was caused by using having Champion plugs. Changed to NGK and no difference was expected or resolved. Car runs fine and has no idle issue other then the annoying check light.

Hi VP,  Yes, I'm very interested in adding some flair (black jack), but there's just something a little fishy with the stick-on ones.  I was hoping I could get new caps that are an actual replacement for the plain white ones that I already have.  I heard that the stick-on ones cover up the Mini light logo on the driver's side.  It's a brand new car -  I can't give that up!

Any of the Miniacs have experience replacing mirror caps and where to buy real Mini parts?

    JAK

I've done the stick on door handles but they stuck out a bit too much for me so I eventually replaced the entire handle with real MINI door handles, (Thank you YouTube). But I don't have experience with the stick on mirror caps, hopefully someone else will chime in! I do know that you can find the stick on caps with the holes in them so that the MINI logo still shines.

I hope you enjoy your new MINI!

    Hey DC Minis,

I'm a new Mini owner and would like to upgrade the look of my car.  Are mirror caps something that you should buy from and have installed by the dealer, or can you buy them from a website like Amazon and install them yourself?

You input would be greatly appreciated,

    JAK

Hi Jak, are you planning on adding a little flair by buying the stick on ones in a design or color, or do you plan to replace the entire mirror unit?
