  1. Don, Sorry I missed you message on this I will reply here for others to see also. The follow comments are the opinion of Corey and that and a buck will get you a small coffee. So take them as you wish. As for rotors, drilled and slotted look cool, but will wear you pads faster and provide on gains for road driving. There are quality aftermarket plan smooth rotors that are equal or better quality to OEM with a slight cost savings. As for pads EBC and Hawk are both high quality aftermarket options. For EBS yellow stuff is likely overkill. Red stuff has less brake dust and will exceed you current brake grip, and provide all you need. As for Hawk HPS would be a suitable pad. I will shoot you a private message about pricing.
  2. Welcome @DocMurphy, nice looking Gen 1 you got there. The will find a lot of gen 1 info in our forums, it should be a great repository for you. As for you horn issue. I would use to jumpers to test the horn directly. Run one lead to from one terminal to ground (any non painted bolt nearby), and the send jumper from the other horn terminal and tap the end to a power source. If it beeps the horn it good. Next leave to ground connected and try to operate the horn from the steering wheel if it beeps you have a bad ground. If it does not beep check the horn fuse, if bad replace if good. it is likely the connection in the steering wheel. Hope to see you at a run soon.
  3. Have you guys considered a 3rd party Reese hitch options for the Gen3s. Here a link to one from outmotoring. https://www.outmotoring.com/MINI-Cooper-F55-F56-F57-hidden-trailer-hitch-receiver-f55-f56-f57-four-door-hatchback-convertible-drawbar-wiring-harness-2014-2015-2016-2017-2018-2019-2020-2021-mount-kit-MINI-do-more.html Then you can use any Reese mount options, at likely half the cost to dealer.
  4. Welcome Mike, BLUF: IMO, if you only want one set, PS4 all-season will handle the weather here no issue. If you want two sets all seasons and a nice summer tire. ----------------------------------------- Just my option, winters are a bit of overkill around here, all-seasons are fine for our temperatures. When we get snow most everything is shut down until the streets are cleared and that is usually within a day. Unless you are on unpaved roads you will only in an extreme occasion be driving on snow covered roads. We have Michelin PS4 all-weather on both of our MINIs that we lead runs for the club in. I feel I set a decent pace on them. I also have ultra-performance summers (200tw), but really only use them for performance driving (autocross, track events, etc...). You will be fine using the winters on any runs you join for the end of this year until it warms up. That will be the biggest thing with the blizzaks, they will heat up quick with the blockier tread and then wear faster pushing them on backroads. You don't need to replace them immediately, just swap them out going into spring. Again welcome and look forward to seeing you at an event soon. -Corey
  5. MC, I use the battery tender brand on my classic, it would be fine a your MINI. The other option is to just disconnect the negative terminal if it is going to sit for externed periods, just have to reset the clock
  6. Join us for an up coming run and there are plenty of folks that will be happy to show you the bells and whistles. You will also get to join a fun drive along some twisty roads.
  7. Tom, I am happy to help get you pointed in the correct direction, this group is predominately focused around the BMW owner re-launch of the MINI. There are a few of us that also own classics. I would recommend joining the "Capital Mini Registry" on Facebook as that is the discussion group in the DMV area for classic mini owners. - Asking to attend one of their events would be a good start to get exposed the classics. - They are also a wealth of knowledge, on what's available out there, to include unofficially for sale stuff Unfortunately a mid 90s JDM example can be a bit harder to find, and often people have a bit of a delusional idea of the value. You am want to look into importing one, as you are looking for an automatic there will be less completion as most people are looking for manuals. There are several businesses that specialize on importing from JDM and handle the paperwork. This maybe the a more cost effective option and give you better choice. I will say the ac is a temporary amenity because once it breaks you likely will not be able to source parts to fix it. Left-hand drives would have to have been converted from the Japanese market, and there are good conversions and bad conversions. So have been properly switched over, but most have basically a drivers ED car kit on them. The biggest thing to avoid is rust in the body, the rockers, A panels, and boot are common trouble spots. Fixing mechanical is not big deal, but replacing rust on classic minis is something most shops are not interested in getting involved it and if they are you can easily rack up a bill thats half what you paid for the car.
  8. Lori, nailed all the key items. The big quality brands that most people choose are either midland or cobra. here is a common set from midland that a lot of folks use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SLHM2TG/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?pd_rd_i=B00SLHM2TG&pd_rd_w=gCU8E&content-id=amzn1.sym.53fffba2-1b69-4594-a1ac-809a34c6d59a&pf_rd_p=53fffba2-1b69-4594-a1ac-809a34c6d59a&pf_rd_r=SV83MQYEVC0H8SKBACNB&pd_rd_wg=vRuQW&pd_rd_r=fc711587-b32d-41fc-af70-211c3c810a3f&s=wireless&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWxfdGhlbWF0aWM&th=1

  16. Welcome, we are happy to have you. There is likely a decent repository of gen1 knowledge in our forums that may be helpful. I feel you Gen2 pains as I am a glutton with a JCW coupe with the N14 motor. hope we can answer a few of you questions and if it is something you don’t want to wrench. I know of one good mechanic I can recommend up that way
  17. How was everyone's dragon experience this year. - Did you find any new runs that are a must for folks next year? - What are your favorite roads in the area?
  18. Brandy and I will be there, great beer and a great view
  19. Only 10 Days left till AutoX school and the start of another season full of fun.
  20. Yeah, the evenings have become busy. Wednesday evening is welcome dinner, Thursday evening is cabin crawl, Friday is Bingo, Saturday is Farewell. Damn Barry and is full slate of events, lol.
  21. Previously many of the club members did not attend the farewell dinner so we did a group thing, We can consider other nights based on what others have planned. Friday is Bingo, and many of the club members put that event on, so trying to fit is in that evening may be difficult.
  22. Hey all, we had a room open up in the DCMM cabin. Queen bed in the Fontana village makes it so you can enjoy all the social events and it is walking distance to the cabin while also being above the party so you can actually sleep. Lol if you were thinking of coming down or looking to be on Fontana just ping me for the details.
  23. Awesome, look forward to seeing you out there @SneakyBaron. We have one MINI signed up for the school when I checked today, John will be bringing out his GP3. FWD Hatches do make up about half the attendees at this point (Golfs, Fiestas, Veloster, and MINIs)!!! So it going to be a great time. We also have 3 MINIs signed up for the Season, and a few others that pop in for an event here or there. We will have to get you driving in an event or two this year. If anyone has any questions I am happy to answer them. Autocross, is a great way to learn the handling of your MINI, which will benefit you on if you plan on being on track, or just make you more confident on a fun run with the club.
  24. If you prefer the more traditional route sheet we have that also 2024 Mistress Run Route Sheet.pdf
