Anyone have any suggestions that doesn't involve reading a manual that is hundreds of pages? #aintnobodygottimeforthat....

Honestly, if you make time for that, it is a tremendous help.

Well spent money. You don't have to read it cover to cover, BUT, it can help you troubleshoot, potentially diagnose, and deff repair. If you have never used a Haynes Guide, they are REALLY easy to navigate, and put things into terms where a monkey could do it, and not a NASA trained monkey

If you REALLY want to get into the ins and outs, without it being overwhelming, grab one for your year.

    $30 gets you:

Complete coverage for your Mini Cooper, Cooper S, Clubman & Clubman S for 2002 thru 2011 (See specific years covered) (Does not include Countryman models or convertible top information):

    --Routine Maintenance

    --Tune-up procedures

    --Engine repair

    --Cooling and heating

    --Air Conditioning

    --Fuel and exhaust

    --Emissions control

    --Ignition

    --Brakes

    --Suspension and steering

    --Electrical systems

    --Wiring diagrams

You change your OWN oil ONCE and the book has more than paid for itself.

  2. There have been quite a few threads on it, but it's always a nice thing to think about with the weather starting to break. I fully anticipate getting out there in a month or so, the mix of cars at the Falls Church C+C is awesome. I am hoping that the 458 Italia and the Noble still go out there. There are also a few classic Minis that make the trip.

We should coordinate a Saturday for us MINI folk to go grab a section of the lot and park a bunch up there.

  3. Would love to make it, but I will have to see where I am at, recovery wise.

This spot it awesome though, especially with its proximity to Bon Chon. In addition to the shabu-shabu, they offer a great sauce bar to build your own custom mixes. Also, they start you off with 2 broths of your choice which is great if you really want to get adventurous, but not dedicate to a whole pot of a set flavor. It's a tremendous value, an awesome eating experience, and AWESOME for both adventurous foodies and non foodie types. Also, as a unusual side note, one of the only places I have seen in NOVA that offers Butter Beer. Sounds gross, but it's really quite good!

  4. Looks like it was a great time, I am sorry I missed it. Have been out of time for a month, the holidays this year were pretty much a non-event.

Thanks for sharing the photos and experience! I am hoping I can make a LOT more 2013 events!

  5. I would like to take the 12:10.

My ONLY issue is, I am not sure 110% if I am going to be mobile. I will let you know on the 29th of NOV.

I HATE to always leave things "pending", BUT, if I can be there, I WILL, if not, I will let you know as SOON as I know!

    Thanks for your patience, gang!

  6. Pre and post but not during

Catalina will be selling tickets. We have some good prizes.

My massage therapist in Del Ray donated a 60 minute massage, we have some swag and gift certificates. I'm donating a portrait session

Post run is stilll a little up in the air for us. This will be my longest set time since surgery. . . I know it sounds silly, the "New" side feels GREAT, but, the old, to be replaced soon side, sucks 8 different types of ass. . .it just gets raw.

At any rate, I am just SO STOKED to be there in the AM, I can't wait. Sounds duper dorky, and cheesy I know, but this is like a big deal for me! First MINI run in a year, first real drive in 14 weeks, and this is looking like a record turn out! Get to see a lot of old friends, and we should ALL be meeting a bunch of new ones! I am just tickled, lol!

  7. Camera gear ready to go= Check

    Blanket = Check

    MINI Cleaned and Shined= Check

Found Flags from last 2= Check

    Batteries on radios Charged= Check

    * I do have an extra radio should someone need/want to borrow one*

Looking SO forward to getting out and about with the MINI Peeps, will be my first "long" drive since surgery, SO STOKED!

Can't wait to see some old friends, and meet some new ones tomorrow!

  8. Try this. With the car running, run the window all the way down. Then, press and hold the window switch up and once the window is closed, continue to hold while counting to 15 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, etc.) and when you reach 15, press and hold down and do the same thing. Then try it. If that didn't fix the problem, try starting the window in the up position. I'm pretty sure I found the right way by doing a google search for something like "resetting MINI windows" but I don't remember the exact sequence. I do know that I did it while we were waiting to get on White's Ferry for the Passport of Montgomery County picnic.

Interesting, and awesome! Thanks for the tip, Craig!!

  9. The parts aren't all that bad. . . the labor, well, lets just say: The front of your MINI has to come off, and it isn't pretty. Figure a full 3-5 days for labor if dealing with a shop.

I had my clutch upgraded under 2 days after driving it off the lot, went to visit, was SHOCKED to see the whole front end of my 2003 on the ground, I almost cried.

Because it was all under warranty, I didn't worry, but, to see the car in such a state of disrepair, I NEVER thought it would come back together (and this is after me rebuilding 2 of my of my own cars, back in the day). End of the day, life is good. . . but, it's NOT a small job.

Find a shop that knows what they are doing, buy your own parts to supply them with, and cross your fingers, hope for the best.

  10. should be a pretty simple, straight forward fix. . . though I am not sure why a curb check would throw things off. . . it's either a motor, breaker, or a whole assembly. I am not even sure why a curb check would even effect your window, period. Check your connections. If it didn't set off your airbags, then I am not sure how this would have changed the motor function of the window. You found stock wiring, from what I see... if your airbag didn't go off, then it should be a simple fix.

    Stay alert, please.

  11. Hey all, just a quick question, sorry for the wall of text. . . .

I am sorry in advance if this has been discussed, but I just haven't seen anything, or found anything while searching.

Is anyone familiar with this product?

    http://www.gtacarkits.com/mini_cooper_2001_2006_car_kit.php

I had found ONE thing saying a person had connected it, their brake lights wouldn't turn off, they disconnected it and everything was fine. They returned it with NO issues, and they said the company was very professional.

    http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/navigation-and-audio/210787-gta-ipod-kit-causes-electrical-issue.html

BUT, after going through the reviews form customers on the site, that were MINI specific, there are some glowing reviews. . .

"I got my car kit this afternoon and had it installed literally in 15 minutes! I had the video loaded on my lap top just in case I needed to reference it but you guys made the kit so easy to install that even if I had never watched the video, I still would have been able to install it in short order.

I love the sound quality, the fact that I can still use all of my stock buttons, and that the music information displays right on my radio face! I just dumped all my music into one giant playlist.

Now if only someone would be so kind as to update all of my music so that all of the song titles are correct. :p

I can't explain how thrilled I am that someone made something so clean and simple, It does exactly what I wanted it to do without having to put an aftermarket stereo in and having to spend a TON more.

Now I'm going to bring the two tools that I needed back into the house and go for a good long drive listening to my music coming through my speakers!!"

Jennifer, Milwaukee, USA (comment received on Facebook wall)

"I've had FM transmitters in the past and the audio quality was unacceptable.

Your price point was far better than anyone else on the web! I also saw the installation on YouTube and it looked simple enough that even I could do it! I'm a complete novice when it comes to stuff like this.

    The shipping was very fast!

Installation was easier than I expected and I did not have to buy any extra tools. The video was extremely helpful. I went back to it several times to check that I was doing it correctly.

I am using my iPhone 3GS. I ran the iPod cable and AUX jack through the bottom vent as shown in the video.

The GTA Car Kit features I like the most was the ease of installation and how the product works flawlessly with my Mini Coopers stereo system. I can use the steering wheel stereo buttons and it charges my phone.

I had trouble with the connector from the GTA kit to the cars stereo connector. At first it was not making a clean connection and I had no audio. I called your support line last week and you were very helpful on the phone. I did not have the plugs seated firmly. A little adjusting and everything is fine. I taped it with a small amount of duct tape just to make sure it did not unseat. I noticed in the video that you had a similar problem when first trying to connect the adapters. Not a huge problem and the product works flawlessly.

The GTA Car Kit is a GREAT value for the money! I'm glad I found you on the web and I'm glad you make such a great product. I highly recommend the kit for everyone.

Just wondering if there was any other real world experience with this. The price point is attractive, the install looks SUPER easy, and fits the needs I am looking for. Looks to be a far better alternative than just getting the AUX cable/adapter from Way, but, I have posted this question on 2 other MINI Boards, and LOADS of looks, NO REPLIES.

If you can tolerate the dudes voice, there is a video for the install and demo of the product, I really want to order, but I would also really like some feedback from anyone who already knows.

Craig, Edge, I know you both are really versed in the electrical side of MINI (but I know mine is 1st Gen) Any help would be appreciated!!

  12. Great to have met some new faces, and great to see some old friends too!!

Congrats to the new Board Members, and thanks all for another well thought out, put together, and executed meeting!

was GREAT to get out for a change!!
