True... but they won't fit 1st Gen JCW brakes either (which are the same size as stock 2nd Gen Cooper S brakes).side note...these will only fit a first gen, second gen brakes are to bigThey might fit the stock brakes on 2nd Gen Coopers (non-S), which are only a fraction bigger than the stock 1st Gen Cooper & Cooper S brakes.
15" wheels are small! ...but also light!

I'm not very mechanical... more technical, so I don't think I'd be much help. I'm still very curious to hear about it and how it turns out though!

If the quality of the work done on your MINI is the most important thing to you, more important than the time it takes or the cost, I can't recommend D&V Autobody enough. They are located on Overland Drive in Sterling, VA - right off Old Ox Rd, which is on the back side of Dulles airport.
They do top notch work - as proven by the number of really high end cars they get in to work on!

The GP1 wheels will fit over any of the 1st Gen OEM brakes, without spacers. However, if putting them on a 2nd Gen, you'll need a 5mm spacer for the 2nd Gen JCW Big Brake Kit (i.e. standard on 2nd Gen JCW models, optional on others), and at least a 12mm (ideally 16mm) spacer to fit them over the 2nd Gen GP (i.e. GP2) brakes. Note also that if you are going to run spacers, you really ought to buy longer bolts (and wheel locks, if applicable), so that you aren't reducing the number of bolt threads that make contact.Just to add... I have two sets of H&R spacers that I can sell. One 5mm and one 10mm. These are high quality and still in good shape. Just keep in mind if you or your buyer needs them. I can bring them to MOTD too. Let me know -
How come you're selling them, Quitta? They do need aggressive wheel spacers to add depth for GP2 brakes, but other than that they are a great set of wheels - the lightest OEM 18" wheel AND lighter than all OEM 17" wheels too!
For everyone else, as a big fan of these wheels, this is a good deal.

That's awesome! Congratulations! Feels fantastic, doesn't it? :top:I paid off Domo today!:marshmellow:  :marshmellow:

I second this! It was a great time - thank you Carl & Faith for opening your home to the club. Good company, good food, fun gift exchange! :top:Thank you Carl and Faith for hosting a lovely party!!! We had a great time and Mark's parents enjoyed meeting everyone -
I just discovered a very interesting fact, from this article...Other than the horizontal taillights and the "tall person B pillar problem", I really like it - much more than I thought I would from the pictures alone. The hands-free tailgate opening is especially neat.I predict it will sell very well - especially since it will be available with All4.
Of course, that's comparing a 2nd Gen and a 3rd Gen. It will be interesting to see if the 3rd Gen Countryman has even more cargo space.the Clubman, for instance, boasts 6 more cubic feet of cargo space than the Countryman — formerly the largest Mini – for a total of 47.9 cubic feet when the seats are down. -
If you can swing it, take the whole week off and go down on the weekend prior. You'll enjoy several days of quiet bliss with a smaller group of MINIs before the big crowd arrives. Both are fun - different kinds of fun! And don't worry, a strong DCMM contingent always goes down every year.
As for the drives, I echo what others have said, don't overcommit.
BTW I may be leading a drive at MOTD myself this year... I have to make some calls first, to sort out logistics.

Edge: You are the man... Thanks so much boss... I will look at going that route then !.
Much Appreciated !!!
Very kind of you... but it's only remotely true for 1st Gens. My detailed knowledge drops off considerably with 2nd & 3rd Gens... of which I can mostly only speak to my experiences driving them (mostly loaners, with a bit of added seat time from generous fellow MINI owners thrown in).Edge is our resident encyclopedia on MINI.:top: -
I don't have any leads to give you, but I would recommend concentrating on an 05 or 06 instead of an 02-04. The reason is simple - in 2005, MINI did a "refresh" of the MINI, making a bunch of subtle but often important changes. The 05/06 are better built MINIs over their predecessors.Jut a guy looking at buying a used 04-06 Cooper S, 6Spd....Ive looked at a few, and havent found anyone really trying to deal....
There are a few key visual cues to quickly identify pre-refresh from post-refresh 1st Gens, just to be sure you know what you're getting. The most obvious one, from the outside - the reverse lights. If there is one reverse light and it's in the middle of the bumper, then it's an 02-04 pre-refresh. If there are 2 reverse lights, each in the bottom of the tail lights, then it is an 05+ post-refresh (includes 05/06 for R50/R53 hardtops, or 05-08 for the R52 convertible).
Another indicator is the interior clock. if there is a clock pod in the headliner, dead in the middle (in front of the rear-view mirror), then it's a 02-04 pre-refresh. They moved the clock inside the OBC display (inside the speedo) in the 05+ refreshed models.
Finally, the dash. 5-piece dash in 02-04, 3-piece dash in 05+.

Another option that may be worth looking into is GT Peace Auto in Chantilly, VA. I believe it's run by Shawn Peace, who used to be one of my SAs back in the day when I went to MoS (before PMoA existed). Good guy.
Ali - also a potential vendor... I'll be happy to help coordinate that when I'm back in town, if you like.

Under the steering wheel - it replaces the existing curved plastic piece, putting a shelf there instead. It is very handy for storing small items. The rubber mat becomes important though, to prevent things from slipping off onto your feet while you're driving.Where does it go?I used to use mine to host my iPod, before I switched to a more permanent iPod integration solution in my car.
-
If you own a 1st Gen, and you don't have this, buy it. It's a fantastic way to get more useful storage space for things in the front of your MINI. MINI doesn't sell these any more, so they are getting more rare and hard to find - especially with the rubber mat.
I would buy it myself but I already have one in mine.

This morning I saw a lightly modded MINI I hadn't seen before, parked in my own condo neighborhood, so I tagged it.
It was a Pure Silver/Black Countryman S, VA license plate "HEAV8S", and the plate itself was the National Air & Space Museum design.
Hopefully they show up here - it's clear they love their MINI! It even had a badge holder on the rear plate - one of the badges was "Bend the rules, rule the bends".

I told Greg right after he won it at MTTB that you wanted it.PM sent. -

That was a blast! Thank you all who came - I think we had our biggest turnout yet and managed to finish off almost all of the brew left. Great stuff! :top:
For those who are interested, here's the final version of the list.

Susan and I have a pot of beef chili and another pot of white bean chili (both are mild on the spice, so unless you hate beans (or beef or chicken), you'll like it!) for everyone to enjoy. Come on out!
-
...for those that know me, don't fear... my girlfriend Susan is making the chili, although I may assist.Edge is making Chili and we have plenty of BeerYes, indeed - come on out! If you like beer, or even if you only like cider, you should come!

Oh man! Why do the R56 get all the newer cool upgrades? Sigh.
All of those things, except the black multifunction buttons, were produced and sold for 1st Gens too...because it's been about 8 years since the last new R52/R53 has been sold -
Just don't forget about the original new MINIs! R50/R53/R52.I'll do the F56 after I'm done with the R55/56/57/58/59. Sheesh, so many variations! -
Holy cow, that's awesome! :congrats::rock:I have very good news. After totaling up the online donations, money collected at the event and the Tshirt sales profits we raised$2582
For Operation Second Chance, that's the most that we have ever raised!!!!! Way to go
Thanks to every single person that participated and volunteered to make the event a success

That really sucks, Alex. If there's one thing that's for sure with MINIs... they are very expensive to keep running well once they are out of warranty. I hope you're able to get Shadow fixed at a price you find manageable.
