Been a while since being a stereo installer at bestbuy, but the R53 looks very easy to do.Swapping an R53 HU is indeed very easy to do. 4 Torx bolts to take out the two downtubes, then a few screws on the front of the HU, and it pops right out. Easy peasy. Katie - consider dropping by a junkyard and looking for a totaled 1st Gen MINI (R50, R52 or R53 - won't matter which)... and perhaps then you can nab the head unit for cheap - after which, an Aux input is a simple install. I don't think they added support for the Aux input until the 2003 models, as JAB 67 alluded to. An Aux adapter for those newer (than yours) model radio's should cost no more than $30.00 ($29.99 from Morristown Mini) but should be available in the 20-25 dollar range from 3rd party sources. Install is easy for both and if you head over to my place, I'd be glad to do the installation for you! (Smile) One thought, Maybe some one else knows....
