If I buy an iPod...

how can I get it to play in my '02 car? Is major re-wiring involved?

It's an early build '02, so no Bluetooth or nuthin'. Suggestions? Links?

As I recall, early '02 did not have a provision for an auxilliary jack, so your best bet may be to get a used head unit from a later year.

FM adapter? Aux Jack?

where might I find these? And how would they tie into my stereo? Yes, I know absolutely nothing about this subject...

Extremely easy to install. Check Marketplace here on DCMM, on NAM, and also eBay.

ok. thanks all. Way Motorworks is trying to get me to buy a $169 device on NAM. It looks easy to install, but surely I can find it cheaper...

Can you post a link so we can see what it is?

If you find a head unit I can throw it in for you at MoA monthly meet or at your place. Been a while since being a stereo installer at bestbuy, but the R53 looks very easy to do.

Swapping an R53 HU is indeed very easy to do. 4 Torx bolts to take out the two downtubes, then a few screws on the front of the HU, and it pops right out. Easy peasy.

Katie - consider dropping by a junkyard and looking for a totaled 1st Gen MINI (R50, R52 or R53 - won't matter which)... and perhaps then you can nab the head unit for cheap - after which, an Aux input is a simple install. I don't think they added support for the Aux input until the 2003 models, as JAB 67 alluded to.

The head unit is just the main stereo there in the dash. Like Haemish described earlier, its easy to remove.

Aloha Katie,

A quick look on ebay showed a few Radio's (Headunits or HU's) in the $75 dollar area. An Aux adapter for those newer (than yours) model radio's should cost no more than $30.00 ($29.99 from Morristown Mini) but should be available in the 20-25 dollar range from 3rd party sources.

Install is easy for both and if you head over to my place, I'd be glad to do the installation for you! (Smile)

One thought, Maybe some one else knows.... Is the connector on the harness(es) Power and Audio the same from the older to newer model shift?
