  1. I've startled the gate guards here at work with it. Sport button on, engine braking down the hill to the guards and all they hear is the grumble, grumble, pop, grumble... A couple have stopped me and commented on it.

Audrey, try the "triggers" that Haemish mentioned OR, take a ride with another 1st Gen that does it and see what it sounds like. There's also the chance that you aren't hearing it if you are like Ali and "sing" along with your radio at deafening levels...

Sara never really heard it until the dragon, now she is addicted to the sport button!

  2. Yes I just confirmed that 7pm is the showing. Cars being displayed are: PTUNING's FRS, Ali's MINI, Tyler's Lotus, Steph M Evo, Allan's G37, AJ's NSX, Alberto's Lexus, Justin's xA. people displaying car's should plan to arrive at 5pm, so we are all set up by 6pm.

The boss said I could get out a little early so I should be there in time. Hopefully nothing comes up!

  3. I'd say they are "laid back" compared to the BMW group and you really, really don't know what you'll see on the course there. There used to be a Honda Fit with lime green wheels that kicked the poop out of people, lots of Miata's, a few Cobra's, the odd Lexus and once, there was even a Chrysler 300 (rental).

Take the offer of a ride along to "show you the ropes" to minimize your frustrations and enjoy the experience.

CDC also offers "test and tune" events where it's not so structured and that's where folks try out new things in their cars. It can be really fun when they don't get the expected results!

I've also seen a mid 90's oldsmobile "woody" station wagon completely full of people. There is also a 70s or 80ish station wagon with the actual name of Woody there, it runs on slicks with built chevy 350. Lately the FRS/BRZ's have been showing up in droves. I counted 8 at the last event.

  4. Great! Thanks and I'll see you there. This is my first autox so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

CDC is very lax, having passengers is encouraged. I can ride with you (non MINI owner) or you can talk to some of the really good drivers and any other MINI owners that attend. See you there, I'm in the yellow Elise.

  5. I want to go but I have to wait until 8 days before the event to sign up because I am not a member. I hope it doesn't get filled up before then. I read that members can sign themselves and guests up 14 days before an event, can you sign me up as a guest?

I'll give it a shot! Please send me the following info:

  6. As some of you have seen in the event planning section (everyone else become a member and see what you are missing!!) DCMM has created a karting team (Cooper Kart Racing) to compete in the Enduro Kart race at Hyper-fest this year. DCMM will be up against 14 other teams (some of which will be joined by other DCMM members..traitors). Here is a link to Hyper-Fest http://www.hyper-fest.com/ so you can see all the craziness they have to offer. I will be attending the entire day and would like to create a caravan if there is enough interest (details will be posted at a later time). The karting event itself goes from 8:00pm-10pm. So come out and support your fellow DCMMers! Also, if you are a member and are competing on another team, post up and I'll add your team to this post so we know who to cheer on.....after Cooper Kart Racing of course

These are in signup order, NOT starting order, that will be randomly assigned. If you have your team name now, please reply with it ASAP. Otherwise please be prepared to give your team name at the drivers meeting that night.

Plan to have all your drivers at SPK's Washington Circuit headquarters by 7:15pm that night to check in, sign the waiver, attend the drivers meeting, and get your kart assignment. There will be a famous Le Mans start - starting drivers line up, run across the pavement when the green flag drops, hop in their idling karts, and go at 8:00pm. After 120 minutes, the team that has covered the most distance shall be declared the winner. Trophies will be awarded for first, second, and third place team finishes. Otherwise the tentative race rules are pretty simple. Here they are in no particular order:

    1) Each team will be at least two people.

    2) Each driver on each team must do at least 20 laps.

    3) Three pit-stops and two driver changes are mandatory. Stop & go pit stops are allowed; the idea here is of course to try to make things more equal for 3- and 4-driver teams.

    4) No electronic communication - signs/pit boards/hand signals only.

    5) No bumping, blocking, or rough driving.

    6) Point-by hand signals are highly recommended.

    7) Driver attire is long sleeves, long pants, closed-toe shoes, and full face DOT helmets with visors. SPK has loaner suits and helmets if needed. Gloves are highly recommended.

    8) If your kart breaks, spare karts will be on pit road - ready for you to hop in and go back out.

    9) If you break down, get stuck, or run out of gas on the course, STAY IN YOUR KART - SPK staff will come to you.

    10) If you spin, make contact with anything, or do something else foolish on course, you will get a black flag and will need to pit in. The black flag policies for this race will be explained at the drivers meeting. You can absolutely assume that individual drivers and/or teams will be parked WITHOUT REFUND for repeated infractions.

    11) The consumption of alcohol is prohibited until after you're done driving your stint.

    12) We may require one fuel stop for each team, this will be explained at the drivers meeting.

    13) Anything listed on the SPK website or announced at the drivers meeting or stated by any SPK or NASA official at the event supersedes anything written here.

As per the policies you agreed to when you registered there are no refunds or credits available, although your team spot is fully sellable or transferrable to someone else if it is arranged before the race.

For those who would like some "warmup" seat time at SPK, they are open frequently (presumably including earlier that day before our enduro) but please check with 'em to be sure.

We are 100% a go "rain or shine", we will only shut down for heavy weather i.e. lightning in the area. Usually we then continue the race after the storm has passed. But the forecast for Saturday evening looks good currently.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to "reply all." Unfortunately I have to miss this enduro due to another event at Sebring, but the SPK staff will take great care of you I'm sure!

    Thanks again,

    Jon

  7. After attending the BMW capital autocross I learned that they only hold 1 event a month (not including the driver schools). It just so happens the CDC's ( Capitaldrivingclub.com ) next event is Bowie. The event is an all day event, you will get at least 6 runs and they will all count! But mostly since you aren't regulars with this series you will really just benefit from the seat time. Be sure to sign up quick because the events tend to fill up fast early in the season. BTW there were 0 MINIs at yesterdays event! :motor:

  8. i think you mean Marks wife, they're fellow C3M :top:

i like waving at people when im in the duck and they give me really confused looks cause they have no clue what the hell im driving  :hahaha:

You're right, I think Brian cause his license plate says Brain or something on it.

  9. Hello!

Picked up a new-to-me 2009 MCS last week, and loving the car! Moved up from a Honda CR-Z... a nice and sporty car, but not enough get-up-and-go to it, and nowhere near the additional features that a MINI has!

More details... 2009 MCS, 52k miles, Dark Silver ext., Black roof, Grey/Carbon Black interior, Bluetooth and USB, Cold Weather and Premium packages.

Will try to make it to this coming weekend's Meet and Greet at Passport!

Welcome! There is a Passport meet coming up?!
