  1. I will be happy to supply crumb cake and juice if folks would like. Just let me know here, so I can pick up supplies.
  2. They got tickets for decorative blinking lights??!! What's the reasoning behind that? Oh wait....it's a LEO on the Dragon....no reasoning whatsoever...:stupid:
  3. Me too! YAY!:biggrin::biggrin:
  4. I'll weigh in on the non-runflat side as well. I got rid of mine in '03 and haven't regretted it either. I have Goodyear Eagle F-1s for my summer tires and I love the ride and handling, both wet and dry. For winter, I have ugly steel rims with Continental snows...rides like tank treads on dry pavement, but go like a tank in snow. Yes, please put 93 octane in your car...it'll thank you. I have a 15% pulley and air intake in my old (early build '02) S, and it's was like getting a whole new car. They're my only engine mods. Keep the questions coming and welcome to the cult...er...I mean, club.
  5. Glad you're doing this earlier, which means I can participate. Missed it previous years cuz I was headed south for another event
  6. You can have our couch after Brian leaves..not the best accommodation, but better than the back porch!
  7. which party? There gonna be lots..
  8. hey, that's what I'm here for...
  9. welcome! Re-read as I added more info.
  10. The larger cabins, like ours have a dishwasher. I never used it...seems a waste of water to wash a few glasses and utensils. If your cabin has a dishwasher, then dishwasher soap is provided. Dish drainers are provided as well, which I do use. Liquid dish soap is provided as well, but I bring some too as washing up from the spaghetti dinner needs lots of soap. You can drink the tap water...it's a little chlorine-y but potable. I bring bottled water with me as the bottled stuff at the general store is pricey. A reusable drink bottle is quite handy. Toilet paper is provided, but again I bring my own. Theirs tends to be not so soft and gentle. Cleaning supplies are not provided beyond dish soap. I bring a big thing of Clorox wipes. I also bring 2 sponges with scrubby sides...one for dishes and one for wiping surfaces. 2 dish towels and a dish rag are provided. I bring an extra dish towel or 2 any how. There are pots, pans, dishes and utensils. However, the number varies according to the number of beds. If your cabin sleeps 2, then there will be enough stuff for 2, maybe 4 people. Our cabin seems to have about 6 of everything, though it sleeps 4. I bring 2 larges pots cuz of the spaghetti dinner. If you plan on cooking large meals, you might want to add your favorite large pot/pan. You can always borrow from your neighbors if your packing space is limited. To recap, here's what I bring for the kitchen: liquid dish soap 2 scrubby sponges 1 or 2 dish towels Clorox wipes Garbage bags- remember to double bag garbage to keep the crows out. Make sure the lid on your outside garbage bin is on tightly. I've them knock off loose ones. Ant traps...LOTS Aluminum foil Gallon sized and snack sized zip lock bags...easier to pack than food containers for left-overs. Paper towels Paper napkins Paper plates - saves on washing up. Plastic utensils-hate to use them, but I have to for the spaghetti dinner. Plastic cups- see above. A reusable water bottle Rags- you'll need them for dusting/wiping off anything out doors that you want to sit on. The pollen is very heavy up there that time of year and I have to wipe off the porch chairs every day. If you have a picnic table nearby, they tend to be filthy. Dust broom and pan- I have a little set that's easy to pack and I do use it, since brooms and mops are not in the cabins. If the kitchen floor is really yucky, I'll use a Clorox wipe and a damp rag. Be aware that Fontana burns all its trash and garbage, and they don't recycle at all . Hence, I try to keep as much plastic out of the trash as possible, tho' the spaghetti dinner generates a woeful amount. They might have changed their recycling policy this year, but I don't know. Every year, I debate on whether to try to separate the recyclables and bring them home, but I haven't done it yet I'm ashamed to say. Hope this answers your questions...keep 'em coming. I leave in 31 days! YAY!
  11. Lordy..."audible pop"? Get to a doc asap!
  12. thanks!
  13. Post your pics of the Audi! It was soooo..pretty..but I really can't believe that guy put his child in the front seat. he must get a ton of tickets...
  14. LOL..there is a laundromat there too..they kinda frown on clothes washing in the local waters..and yes, please do come to the camp fire!
  15. yer so silly....
  16. This wouldn't involve a carwash, but what about dinner at the pub in Bethesda. Haven't been there in a while...
  17. we have lots of outlets in the cabin...they even work!
  18. Jason, don't forget to look on Motoring Alliance as well...
  19. um..yeah.
  20. Laura and I did this on a whim for the 1st time last year, and it turned out to be lots of fun. It'll be at our cabin, #538...the one with the DCMM banner tied to the front porch on Welch Road West. Bring something to sit on, something to drink, and wood to burn. We'll gather after 8PM. We don't do anything special, just sit around and gab. Newbies can get answers to their Dragon questions....I've been to every single MOTD, starting on '03. Hope folks will come! If the weather's crappy, we'll nix the fire, but not the gathering.
  21. yer welcome..anything I can do to help.
  22. watch both daily and act fast. as it gets closer to the date, rooms/cabins go really fast. Sometimes as fast as 5 minutes from the original post.
  23. no grills, to my knowledge. bring a disposable, i.e. cheap, one. no shared picnic grills either. I actually have a cheapie buried somewhere in my garage. let me know if you want it. I believe the favorite "grill" to use at the Dragon, is a hibachi. I know at least a few people who've used them in past years. The general store does have charcoal, but like everything else there, it's very expensive.
  24. bring ant traps...LOTS of them. Even if you keep your kitchen antiseptically clean, the ants still come out. Wish there was a way to turn the ants against the bear threat... The way they stock the kitchens is if it's a 2 person cabin, then there's at least enough service for 2. Paper plates are always a good idea. So are garbage bags. The crows there are garbage hounds and will tear open any exposed bags and spread garbage everywhere. So, if you can double bag all garbage and make sure garbage can lids are on tightly (this keeps bears away, too). I can't tell you how many times I've had to clean up around the garbage cans the day after the Spaghetti Dinner because of those damned birds. So, add to your list: LOTS of ant traps extra garbage bags paper plates Anti-bear devices of any kind, cuz ya know Laura...they're coming for YOU!

    MOTD 2011

I'd almost lead a Cherohala run, but leading runs down there can go bad in a heartbeat. Large group + beginner run attendees + bad FRS reception = Cluster &^%$. It gets worse if the weather's bad, 'specially at the top of Cherohala. Fog is likely and snow is possible...not good for summer tires! It got very cold up there last year and the fog was as dense as I've ever seen it. Laura and I crawled through most of it. At the other end of Cherohala, Tellico Plains has zip to offer in the way of food, drink and potties, especially for a large group. Nope, ain't gonna volunteer....
