Minyuette Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 I haven't been around in a while, but my poor MINI was hit today. Guy ran a red light and hit me as I was turning the corner. I just need to vent with people who understand my anxiety, I don't know how bad the damage is, luckily I have really good insurance levels with State Farm and the other guy WAS insured and admitted fault. He was cited by the police. I'm just... sad. The guy plain wasn't paying attention, he admitted it to me and to the officer. :banghead:

Krut Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 How bad is the damage? Royal Autobody in Sterling is very good. Don't take your MINI to Ashburn Collision - contrary to what people have said in the past - my experience with them is horrible. My car had to be repainted twice.

I thought I had my account set to notify me of replies, I should've known to check back. :embarassed: Here's my poor baby: I got my car back yesterday but it was raining so I really didn't get to "drive" it. Today was sunny so I took the curvy roads that I normally drive and it just didn't handle the way it normally does and the engine idling sounds a little loud. I also noticed that the hood is still somewhat pushed to the side... so I have to take it back. Here's my question though, is anyone familiar with State Farm? They want the body shop to check it out which is fine for the bodywork (mainly the hood) but I'd like to take the car to Sterling for a checkup under the hood. Doesn't anyone have experience with State Farm? Am I allowed to do this?

You know, I had you in mind during my whole ordeal because I remember that fateful day your car was crunched. I'm out here in Charlestown so I took it locally to a place that had done really awesome work for me in the past. I don't think the hood is a big thing, I think I can take it back and they can get it into position. The paint looks awesome and they recreated my stripes that I got from the Aesthetic Creations party. My problem is that State Farm keeps insisting I have the body shop look under the hood but they are a body shop, I want Sterling to give me a looksee.

They might not pay the full cost, but this at least allows you to use the shop of your choice. You should discuss with them. Well, that's interesting. When Scoopie had her mishaps, my ins. co. (Progressive) had their body/repair shop do all the work (which was excellent, btw). When parts needed to be ordered, they got the correct pieces/parts and installed them, as well. Maybe State Farm has that same level of expertise w/their shop; i.e., it's not just a body shop. I'm willing to bet he works with insurance companies daily. I for one would not want a place that's just a body shop doing any work on the engine or steering of my car. Minyuette Posted March 5, 2010 Author Report Posted March 5, 2010 The shop I'm using has a great reputation, but they are definitely primarily a collision center. I'm going to keep an eye on things under the hood, after speaking with the adjuster lady she put my mind at ease over a few things that she said was definitely not damaged in the accident. I'm getting ready to head to Asia on monday for a few weeks so after I get back I'm going to take the car and they're going to look it over again, drive it, adjust the hood for me, and basically give me a tour of what's going on, what happened, what was replaced, and what wasn't damaged. I could just be overly sensitive right now, I can't tell you how many people are telling me that my car will never be the same which is making me batty. And while that is probably true there's a distinct possibility I'm making it worse in my own mind. So, I'm going to go on my trip and have a great time and then when I get back I'm confident we'll get this resolved. Still, if anyone is a State Farm guru I'm all ears for any advice.
