Classic Trailer build

Recommended Posts

Now that spring finally has broken through, it is time to dive into my classic trailer project. Mainly to open up Brandy's side of the garage and get back in her good graces.

So I had free time today and a cutting wheel, so I decided to see where the day would led me

This is how the day started, safety first had to cover watson because the sparks are about to start flying.

Hood, front quarter panels, and front facia, removed.

There must be something that could be done with those doors but I can't think of anything

Selling the doors. They are usable with a little TLC.

If you have any remaining parts that may be good for an art project, let me know!

Bonnet, front quarters, pretty much any body panels front the door jams forward. To include the firewall. I can send you picks of anything you want to see or you can come look through the pile

Hey all,

I have finally had some free time to get out in the garage and work on some projects.

First I now know that have a rusty classic mini has the scrap value equal to a 6 pack or premium beer or a case of Natty light.

After a few hours with the poly carbide wheel in the angle grinder I now have a true idea as to the shape of the body. Not as quick and nowhere close to as clean a project as wheeler dealer makes it look.

The only major surprise i found was a decent ding in the left rear. the bottom picture is the inch and a half think clunk of filler someone used to fill it in.

I also cut out the seat back giving now you can see a better idea as to the storage size that will be in the trailer.

Hope to weld in the front soon. should have another update soon.

Separated the subframe from the body today, hope to get it fully stripped down and ready from paint by the end of the week. You can see the spare tire area in the trunk pan needs a patch, the rest is only surface rust that the grinding wheel will make short work of.

A little soak and the bolts broke lose fairly easily, with a hand from Brandy. she is an expert at jack stand placement and grabbing tools. Especially when I break the subframe loose from the body and forget the disconnect the battery cable and I am stuck holding it will the cutting wheel is on the other side of the garage.

I will be stripping the subframe down, not sure if I am going to leave the brake system might plum to the receiver. I know it would be over kill but its already there why not use it:questionmark:

Well after a few evenings of degreasing, stripping, and going through the mechanics of the suspension I painted everything yesterday, and should get it reassembled this weekend.

I had to look up what the "trumpet" was- cool stuff!!!

The first time a crawled under the suspension it was a what the hell moment rubber cones and trumpets. I tell people to thing motorcycle swing arm when describing the rear suspension.

Those rubber cone mean you will knock your fillings loose on some of the roads around here. (Telegraph)
