  1. I'm amazed at all the geniuses that must write the reviews for these things that say it took them 10 minutes to get it done! I'd say it took an hour to make sure I took my time and got things installed the way they wanted. But it's done!

You sure do hear a lot more from that turbo. I wasn't expecting to hear that turbo shudder quite as pronounced coming out of my car but BAM! There it was!

The F series one at least partially seals the cone off from the engine bay, that in combination with a little heat reflective tape/material may prevent the heat soak I get at lights.

There is also an intake snorkel that channels outside air to the intake area. While the air is not contained as it is in the OEM air box, I'm hopeful that the difference will be minimal.

  3. Event Title: Maple Festival 2019

    Event Date: 03/16/2019 08:30 AM to 03/17/2019 12:00 AM

Event Address: 140 Purcellville Gateway Drive, Purcellville, Virginia, 20132, United States

    CANCELED - Maple Festival - March 16th - 17th 2019

This will be an overnight destination run to the Maple Festival in Montery, VA. We will head down for the start of the festival on Saturday March 16th and enjoy touring the country back roads of Montery, VA while making various stops at sugar farms and other highlights of Virginia’s often hidden maple industry!

Was a lot of fun last year with a great drive and fun activities! Get it on your calendars now so you don't miss out!

    Event Summary - http://www.highlandcounty.org/events/maple-festival/

Take a step back in time to Highland County, “Virginia’s Sweet Spot”. Travel back roads and mountain byways to the annual Highland Maple Festival. Held on the 2nd and 3rd weekends of March, the Maple Festival has been an annual event in Highland County, Virginia, since 1958.

Each year, thousands of visitors are drawn to this unspoiled, rural region of Virginia to celebrate the “opening” of the trees and observe the process of maple syrup-making. Sugar camp tours provide a unique and educational experience that portrays a rapidly vanishing way of American life. The Highland Maple Festival was designated a “Local Legacy” by the Library of Congress in 1999.

We are dog-friendly! Dogs on a leash are welcome at all outside Maple Festival locations; however dogs are not allowed in any inside locations. We love our four-legged visitors, but we want to make sure everyone stays safe, so we recommend all dogs wear a comfortable muzzle. With many people and other dogs around the festival, we want to make sure no one gets excited and everyone (dogs included) stay safe! Thank you!

    Lodging

We recommend somewhere in Warm Springs, VA. It has more options and doesn’t require the two night stay you will find most places if you choose to stay in Montery, VA.

The Inn at Warm Springs - https://www.theinnatwarmsprings.com/

Dinner Destination - Wheelhouse Restaurant in Warm Springs

The Inn at Gristmill Square showcases regional American farm-to-table cuisine in the Waterwheel Restaurant.  Our menu changes with the seasons to guarantee the freshest most authentic flavors.  Freshly prepared ingredients from local and regional growers fill the menu, offering guests an exceptional dining experience.  Beyond the menu, guests will enjoy a romantic, intimate atmosphere inside our renovated Mill.

During your visit do not forget to visit the Wine Cellar which serves as the restaurant’s hands-on wine list.  With over 200 different offerings, make sure the whole table visits the cellar.  Conveniently we also offer wine sales for off-premise consumption.

A favorite destination for visitors and locals alike, the Waterwheel Restaurant at The Inn at Gristmill Square should not be missed.

  4. I'm out of factory warranty on my 2015 so it is time to pretty some things up a bit. Decided to pick up the K&N intake for the F55.

I know the intake doesn't add anything material to the performance of the F series, but I think it looks nicer than a box and I understand it enhances the sound of the car.

It arrives today so I will include some additional pics after installation!

  6. @Gearhead60 it occurred to me something that I've been looking to enable, which is normally a UK function. The rear fog lights!

I did a little looking and the only reference I see in Carly was to enable them during the Welcome Lights setting. Maybe it will enable them in general.. I'd love to have them run when the headlights are on. Maybe we could look at it during the picnic.  ?

Welcome lights – rear fog lights left
    • off
    • turn on softly
    • turn on hard
Rear left fog lights are turned on with welcome lights. (codable in BDC)

Welcome lights – rear fog lights right
    • off
    • turn on softly
    • turn on hard
Rear right fog lights are turned on with welcome lights. (codable in BDC)

An induction service cleans carbon on the fuel side of your engine, this does not touch the back sides of the valves.

If you don’t believe the gen1 engine with SC (boosted) has blow by then the walnut bast is not necessary.

Induction is a chemical cleaning method, like the detergents already in your fuel just more consintrated.

Comparing the two methods are apples and oranges, they clean different parts of the engine one is chemical one is mechanical.

Two different things, like comparing the price of a sway bar and coil overs. Both are suspension parts but different thinks

    Great info!

Event Address: 1200 Wolf Rock Drive, Purcellville, Virginia, 20132, United States

UPDATE: I screwed up with the pet policy at Dinosaur Land. They aren't allowed in the park or gift shop so a few of us have volunteered to puppy sit dogs in the parking lot to give everyone a chance to tour the park and gift shop. Sorry!

Added Route Map and Route Sheet.

With a focus on some family and pet friendly destinations!

    Highlights:

Stop 1: Dinosaur Landhttp://dinosaurland.com/ - Open for 50 years, this roadside attraction features over 50 dinosaurs, inviting visitors to step into the world of the prehistoric past, turning back the pages of time to the Mesozoic era, when dinosaurs were the only creatures that roamed the earth.

PET POLICY FOR DINOSAUR LAND: Dogs aren't allowed in this park. Sorry about that, my mistake! A few of us have volunteered to puppy sit in the parking lot to give everyone a chance to tour the park and gift shop.

    Stop 2: Marker Miller Orchardhttp://www.markermillerorchards.com/

Relax while sitting on the front porch in our rocking chairs and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery.  Or go on an adventure, by purchasing containers and going out to pick your very own fruits and vegetables (check for availability throughout the season).  We have many picnic tables, so feel free to pack a lunch or purchase food from our food building when it is open (every weekend August-October).  Inside the market there are a variety of products to choose from and don’t forget to check out our bakery and the apple cider donuts.  Wrap up your visit with a stop by our “Sweets Shop” where you can select from fresh made fudge, hand dipped ice cream, or cider slushees.

PET POLICY FOR MARKER MILLER ORCHARD: Dogs are not allowed inside the market, but are welcome on the rest of the property.  Please make sure they are on a leash at all times and provide cleanup when needed.

    Schedule:

8:45 - Meet at Dunkin Donuts in Purcellville, VA

9:00 - Drivers Meeting and Wheels Up

9:40 - STOP - Dinosaur Land - Photos, Tour, Gift Shop

Today’s project was to replace the drive belt (aka serpentine belt). Was pretty easy, once I had the light bulb moment and used the floor jack to unload the the tensioner.

Had to do this weekend because the dealership failed her on inspection for a worn cracked belt. Which seems odd as I had not heard an squilling on start up or any other time. Once I got the old one out it was pretty clear someone wanted to make $200 for a belt replacement.

Jokes on them $15 and and hour of my time.

Nice! Was there a special tool necessary for this? I always heard the serpentine belt was a very expensive maintenance. Glad you could knock it out yourself!

It is cleaning of the head, focusing on the backside of the valves. Forced induction engines (turbo or Super charger) create blow by, this is when oil vapor in the engine is still moving to fast to settle out of the gases that a routed back to the intake to be combusted (to improve emissions). The oil vapor condenses on the backside of the valves resulting in carbon buildup. This build up begins affecting the seating of the valves, creating rough running and once bad enough does not let the valves seat causing the engine not to start.

Many people add a catch can to allow oil vapor more of a chance to settle. This is a good idea to do after the blasting treatment. Just my opinion

it is a more of an issue for N14 but if you are running a reduced pulley on your supercharger you are creating more boost and therefore likely creating more blow by.

I'm a little confused, is the meet and greet/initial meetup at Magnolia's?

This is my first time doing one of these meetups so I'm not sure how this works. Do we meet up there and then go for a drive and come back, or do we meetup somewhere else and then end up at Magnolia's?

Sorry for the confusion. This event happens immediately after the Meet and Greet at MINI of Sterling. So we will be meeting and leaving from there.

The drive will take us to Magnolia's for lunch with plans to stop at Dragon Hops, Otium Cellars, and Bluemont Vineyard after lunch. You are welcome to join us for as little or as much as you like!

I will update the event start address to reflect the dealership. ?
