  1. Oh, we'll do this again. If anyone/someone would like to coordinate it, just let me know and I'll be glad to get the process started with you.
  2. I'll preface the following comment with an admission that I don't follow the "mail" on which tuners are working on the 1st Gens cars. I totally agree with Edge on the "bang for the buck" with a good ECU tune (custom on the dyno or "canned"), it just can't be beat. Having said that - when I had the RMW tune, I still had that slow throttle response before getting into buckets and buckets of power - with the sport button off. With the sport button on, it was an absolute BEAST! Later, Jan started changing the throttle mapping and I tested about a 1/2 dozen tunes for him. I now have the Alta Access Port and what I really, really like about it is the variety of maps I can throw on the ECU. One gives me stock throttle mapping with more power and I drove around with that tune for about 7 minutes before I pulled over and grabbed the Access Port. The lag was such a PITA! The other is like a "Sport button Lite" version that give me a more responsive throttle but it's not "twitchy" and then when I hit the sport button, it's very crisp and responsive. The offer to test the sprint booster for free is an awesome opportunity!
  3. GiGi, I didn't count us as registering for the event since we are actually coordinating it. Ali opened herself up for a few remarks but I'll leave it. Yep, we'll be there for the Bridal Veil Falls Run for sure!
  4. Lona and I will be departing on Sunday, spending the night somewhere and we'll arrive around lunch time on Monday. Shacking up on the same cabin as last year with Marty, Pammy, Ali and Mark. We've signed up for the Welcome/Farewell dinner, vrewswap and car show. Anything else will be on a whim. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Fontana again this year.
  5. Bill, that's the exhaust from a 1st Gen and the "one ball" mod is pretty popular with them. Yours comes from the downpipe, through a flex coupling and nearly straight back to the rear end of the car - I've worked on a few of them so I know the bends and turns. Glad to hear they replaced the HPFP, that's a worry you won't have now. Too bad they didnt' take care of that recall while they were at it. On my 09, I had a Boorla "Sport" exhaust and while it sounded really good, the drone inside the car was enough to drive me around the bend. One trip to/from Jacksonville, NC and the Dragon and that thing had to go. I replaced it with a VIP designs exhaust and it was better - and still sounded good. I can't help but think that you'll be safe (warranty wise that is) as long as a mod you perform isn't the proximate cause of any failure that you may need to take the car in for.
  6. Ryan - take a look at RealOEM.com for parts as well. I've never looked at or played with the R50 glove box but I'm willing to bet someone like Edge or Scavenger or one of the other long time 1st Gen owners can offer some advice.
  7. Nah, I'd still feel the same way. In my experience, personality has a great deal to do with the way people are treated anywhere and an auto dealership is no different. They run hundreds of cars through the service bays each week and too many people vent their spleen when they have a bad experience but they won't take a moment to make a public comment on the other times when they've been taken care of. It sure seems to me that the post which has been deleted did a good bit to suggest that the dealer was taking care of the owner (loaner car, waiving payment, schwag from the parts counter) and doing what they could to figure out what the issue is. I don't subscribe to the Carlisle forums but it would be great if there's any follow up on the problem being resolved.
  8. Bill - Never have so far.
  9. I made sure to give her a DCMM card before they left and it's great to hear that she went back to buy it. Nudge them to join the club, they seem like a very, very nice couple. Hurray, another MINI adoption!
  10. Did that. He'll get back to me when he see's it. I'm really frustrated with it at this point and I feel worse because I know Ali really, really wants to go and we can't get her registered.
  11. See ya there! Thanks for checking Madame Presidente!
  12. Thanks for saying what I was thinking. Bottom line, if you don't like the way a dealership treats you, go to another. Mechanical/electrical devices can and do have faults and failures - it happens. Merlin was back in the shop 3 times in the first two weeks I had him. Each time, I was treated with respect and I worked with the SA to get the problem fixed. Maybe my tolerance level is higher than the folks above because I certainly go beat on the managers door demanding anything for my trouble. I guess I'm lucky to live down the street from PMoA. I'm hoping the owner above feels better after venting in such a public forum. Too bad the dealership doesn't have a way to tell "The rest of the story"...
  13. It's not letting me register. It says I don't have any flags set and the registrar must do something... Can one of you register Ali? Her BMWCCA # is 458286 I'll get the money to you at the M&G or we can meet up somewhere if you aren't going. Heck, if you can register both of us, I'd appreciate it! My number is 433012
  14. Congrats on the new MINI!
  15. Congrats on the new MINI!
  16. I know I posted something to this thread last night but it's not there now... Like Laura, I also have the Kiwi WiFi adn the Rev app. They work well. A good alternative is the Scan Gauge II. I wouldn't have a worry in the world about taking the car in to the dealer with that installed, it's reading data that's coming from the OBD-II port and the two devices have no ability at all to change any settings. If you do a search for "tuning", you'll find a thread with an excel spreadsheet with a list of mods that can be made. None of them are really performance mods, they are more convenience mods and again, since it's just using what the factory has done, there's no warranty issue.
  17. Hey Laura - we are always looking for folks to organize the monthly dinners. The places we go for those are always selected by a member. Organizing it pretty much means picking a day/date/time and send the information to either Marty (mbongers) or I and we'll put it on the calendar with an RSVP option. Then, you'd just have to make the reservations if they are needed for the place. If you'd like to throw a few ideas out to the crowd before selecting, we can set up a poll in the "events planning and feelers" area, create a poll for location or places or both. Then, you can pick what's gonna work and send it. There's really not much effort involved in it and it would be great if we had members fighting over it because the dinners seem to be pretty popular.
  18. Bill. A couple of little secrets for making this mod easier? Do it on a cold car, not a hot or even warm car because you'll spend most of the time with the one hand or the other right up against that hot little snail... unbolt the radiator overflow container and move it to the side (one bolt and one plastic "lip"). Use the longest allen wrench you can find and if you have access to metric T handle allen wrenches, those work even better. It really isn't all that hard and doing the swap while it's cold is a key to success without too much pain. P.S. Love the "Compensating" badge!
  19. We also have events all over and this is the first DC centered event that we've had in some time.
  20. That'll work. By the way! Thank you to Jim and Laura for getting the info posted on this issue.
  21. That's not a dumb question! Looks like the safety recall will begin in February and dealerships are currently in the process of replacing the affected parts in the cars that are currently in inventory. I would give them until the first week of February or so and then contact your favorite SA to see what the schedule looks like. Alternatively, we'll be at a dealership on Saturday or the M&G so maybe we can get an SA or someone with first hand knowledge to come meet the group and give us an idea of the game plan!
