TGGRRR (Ali) Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 A friend of mine has a cabin in the general area of the Dragon, so we were discussing routes. She said that she hates taking 81 because of the trucks and if it's an off time she'll take 95 down because it has more lanes and moves better. I looked on Google Maps and the difference is about 9 minutes more taking 95 south through Greensboro vs 81. Has anyone else tried this route? carman63 Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 It might make sense for those DCMMers that live close to 95. For us though, we're ~20 miles from 81, so we'll be going that route.
TGGRRR (Ali) Posted April 20, 2011 Author Report Posted April 20, 2011 Well that's true, we are right near 95 south. Given we're leaving on Sunday morning I think we're going to try it and hope it's less trucky. Tigger 2006 the cabrio and Riversong the 2014 Countryman
carman63 Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 It's been suggested to us too, since 95 has more lanes and less truck traffic. But we're leaving Wednesday morning. We'd hit all sorts of DC commuter traffic.
minirab Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Because I live in Hagerstown I always take I-81. That being said heavy truck traffic is mostly on a Friday and Sunday nights. In the past I make Knoxville from Hagerstown in a tad over six hours. You will have no prob- lem with I-81.
maacodale Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 Pretty sure the HR MINI guys are going route 58 west to I 85 south. We're leaving the HR area at 6 AM on Wednesday.
TGGRRR (Ali) Posted April 21, 2011 Author Report Posted April 21, 2011 Mark and I will be leaving Asheville on Wed morning and heading to the Dragon from there. I figure we'll arrive around noon since we're going to grocery shop on the way. I hear Asheville has some really good grocery stores, even a Whole Foods. Along with outdoor farmers markets and all kinds of healthy food options. We'll be going from a healthy food mecca to a twisty mecca Ali Tigger 2006 the cabrio and Riversong the 2014 Countryman
