Got mine done last night as well! There was a noticeable difference driving in the rain on the way home last night!
-
so my plans that weekend have changed- too late to sign up?
-
I'll buy the CG lock!

And... Done!!!
Alternator went south so quick that when I pulled it in to start working on it, the unit was smoking!!!
I took my time, and just followed along with "Mod Mini"s Youtube Episode- HUGE HELP:
Putting the car in "service mode" wasn't hard at all- just had to deal with some hardware that was old and corroded... going back together was much quicker than teardown. All done, buttoned up, and a quick charging system check- ALL SYSTEMS GO!!!

So, on the way to work this morning, all the lights on the dash of my R53 came on... power steering cut out.... radio started cutting out... no power... Limped it to work and put it on the tester- 9.6 volts with the engine running... :top:
Got an alternator coming- Anybody local have the belt tool?

Ah, gotcha

Hi all, Any recommendations on where I should take my MINI to get a new alternator :banghead:
My battery died this afternoon and needed a jump to get it to the shop. I thought, oh it just needs a new battery..Nope, guess not! It's at Advanced Automotive in Chantilly right now sitting until I decide what to do next. I think I trust them when they say it needs an alternator.. Seems surprising to me since it's a 2011. When, I called MOS they recommended I have it taken there so I can have them look at it... seems kind of silly to me. But they did entice me some however with the willingness to advocate to MINI USA for me about requesting some goodwill toward the repair... My extended warranty ran out just 2500 miles ago :banghead:
I guess it would make the most sense to bring it there? Anyone else have any lucky with trying to get MINI USA to pay for anything at all out of warranty?
a reman alternator is less than $150 through Rockauto, and it'll take you less than two hours to replace it in your driveway.... just saying :top:

What class are you autocrossing in?

Just saw this thread , and wow, that was quick. But, an '07 is an R56, not R53, so they are very different. Either way, glad for them!
Yeah he came across a deal that was too good to pass up

Just saw this on CL - http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/cto/4860045853.html
Looking for an R53, thanks for the tip though!!

Hey gang, have a buddy that Unstable and I have converted to a potential MINI owner
Only thing is, we have to find him one!!! Looking for a Manual transmission R53, lower mileage... Doesn't want green if he can help it, but that wouldn't be a deal breaker...
-
We are in! Looking at the list, trying to decide what to bring....

It's been a good 48 Hours for Bruiser!
Replaced my power steering pump- New pump is much quieter, and I CAN TALK TO THE PCM!!!!
Took the car to emissions, passed with flying colors!
Renewed my registration, and ordered my new tags.
What did I get? "SRSBZNS" (serious business)
Now the REAL FUN car start :motor:

Saw Lt Dan on roadraceautox.com today!
Lol... We do not talk about the sandbox!!!

Good looking Checkmate edition cooper, red with silver roof. Tags said "MARIOKRT". Parked next to my jeep at target in Gainesville. *wave*

That's, awesome! They have some nice stuff!!!
-
I ended up ordering the Dorman reman unit from Rockauto, should be here in a couple days... Let's see if this fixes it!!!
-
Unfortunately my R53 is out of the recall by mileage (188k)
-
So I just got the call from Curry's about my PCM issues... Believe it or not, they say my Power Steering Pump is grounding out my PCM, causing all the problems. I have begun my search for a replacement, but wanted to ask if anyone has had any good experience locally picking one up...
-
for brakes? How about we just put them on in someone's garage?
-
Were they able to find the problem?
No it's still in the shop. Part of that is my fault because I told them to take there time, but I'm losing my confidence a little bit... May need to go to the dealer...
-
Just gotta vent... The MINI has been at the shop since Monday, and they still can't get things working... Luckily the weather has been bad so I would have been driving the jeep anyways... but STILL, I want my MINI back!!!!
-
Dropped it off for diagnostics today
I can't communicate with the PCM through the OBD connector, and until that gets fixed, I can't get Emissions testing done....

Anybody know if Passport's service department can load a JCW flash into my R53? If so, I'll set an appointment to get that done during the meet and greet!
