  1. I had this same thing happen to me over the weekend in a Metro garage near my house in Maryland. The thieves smashed my passenger window to get at a whole lot of nothing in my car.

I saw Armor Auto Glass mentioned in this thread but also saw the 2009 date. Has anyone had a more recent experience getting glass replaced that they could share? For reference I have a 2010 Cooper S.

    Thank you in advance!!!

Damn! Sorry to see this, I don't have any advice on glass, but I live in metro MD also. Can you share a specific location so I can avoid it!?

  2.

according to SCCA rules, from what i've read, it doesn't take much to bump from one level to the next.

Yeah, its real easy to mod your way out of class. At the moment, my Exige isn't even legal in any SSCA SOLO class and that was just because of my new spoiler. Before I did my body modifications I was bumped into SSM because of my S/C. The 06 didn't come S/C from the factory, but the previous owner added an OEM equivalent, but since it wasn't exactly OEM, I was not eligible for SSP.

  3. SMF...i'm gonna get spanked

Maybe nationally, but probably not at a small event. People who start modding their cars without thinking about car classing tend to over mod and end up in crazy advance classes (done this many times). So at smaller events, you typically have these "extreme cars" with novice drivers (myself included).

I can see this being the case at MOTD, a lot of these cars are over done, and maybe 5% of them actually race.

Good luck, have fun, and bring back a trophy for DCMM!!

  4. Hello Competitive family,

I'm really struggling determining my AutoX class. Working through the SCCA rule book, I believe my car will be 'DS', 'FP', and 'DSP".

I'm hoping to have this nailed down so I can print letters and numbers before doing my first AutoX at MOTD this year. (yes, i am novice).

Could someone help me out? i've included a list of Mods to the car below.

    ---------------------------------

    R53 MCS

    CAI

    16% Pulley

    Bypass Valve (Detroit Tuned)

    Flashpoint MKII Header (WMW)

    JCW exhaust

    Koni Yellow Shocks(Dampen adjustable)

    H&R Lowersprings

    Fix Camberplates (front only)

    Adjustable 22mm Rear Swaybar

    ----------------------------------

Thank you for any assistance, I'm still reading/reasearching...not trying to dump this on anyone.

    Cheers,

    Ross

"No changes are allowed to supercharger drive system pulleys. Belt tensioners may be added/changed to reduce belt slip. " Chapter 15, 4.C

This seems to knock you out of DSP.

    EDIT: Sounds like SMF

  5. This is good to know. I did talk to the guys at GTPeace about tracking my R56 and they said brakes won't be cheap. The DTC60 pads from Tirerack and High Carbon rotors are the ways I am going with for my next track weekend.

thanks for sharing SpecR53 site. They're so close to me i might just try to check the store out this weekend.

I haven't used the 60s, but I had the 30s and loved them! I'm using the Carbotech xp12 and 10s now. Tomorrow is my first track day of the season, so I'll see how they do.

  6. I use https://www.knsbrakes.com/c/home a lot, but recently I just ebay'd and pieced together what I was looking for to save some pennies. When talking track pads, cheap isn't really an option (just spent $400+ on pads alone) depending on what you are really looking for. If by saying "track" you mean better than stock, that can bring the prices down greatly.

I use to think I needed the fanciest rotors, but after talking to some racers who go through multiple sets a season, they just get the cheapest (safest) available. I couldn't bring myself to buy a solid rotor, so I just made sure I had vented rotors at least.

and actually, as I was typing the above I remembered that there is a local MINI racer (George Hovis) that has a web shop also, https://www.specr53.com/

Do you plan on running a full track season or just an event here and there?

  7. So, now that the Continental ExtremeContact Sports are available on TireRack, would you get those or Michelin Pilot Super Sports? Anyone happen to have any experience the Conti's? Super Sports are proven, but ExtremeContact Sports are an evolutionary step up from the DW's, which are also proven.

I can't find any comparison articles between these two.

I think they just came out, like within the past 45 days. I doubt there is too much info out there yet. I say buy them and let us know!

    EDIT:

    From another forum I'm on

"Conti ExtremeContact Sport was originally discussed here back on page 224.

I have a set and am in the process of testing against the existing PSS on my ND...a comparison which will be relevant for another year.

Michelin is releasing their PSS update in Q1 also, now called "Pilot Sport 4S". Just got back from the media launch event for that one. Incremental dry improvements, "more better" wet. 19 & 20" sizes only for about the first year...others to follow. Working on acquiring a test set soon. "

  8. Does it make more sense to be a SCCA member and sign up for these, or can one just sign up for the events? I think there is a discount associated with it.

I have gone back and forth on whether to become a SCCA member (which I imagine have more benefits than not), I'd love to do autocross just to be come a better reaction driver...but not sure that I can dedicate those amount of weekends as it comes up.

While a member, do you get a drive log or other proof of competency that allows you to attend other events without having someone in the passenger seat for a track day?

(wasn't sure if this was thread worthy, but just some questions i was thinking while on this subject)

    Cheers,

    Ross

With membership comes with a lot of discounts and things from partner companies (similar AAA). There is a monthly magazine "SportsCar" and you get the opportunity to sign up for a "season subscription" for autoX that allows you to have a permanent race number, not have to worry about signing up for each event, and you get a race or 2 free.

I can't answer the driver log question, since this will be my first year attending a PDX with SCCA, I have done HPDEs with other clubs. I know your progress is tracked, I just don't know how.

Also as a member, your entry fees are discounted, but the number of events you participate it will really determine which route is best for you.

  9. Of course this is subject to change, but here is the current schedule for SCCA AutoX, Time Trials, and PDX (TT and PDX run the same days).
