When is Mini's in the Appalachia? Is the list for that event full? I've been wanting to do a Skyline cruise. Put out a feeler in the Mini USA group on FB but never got any responses 😪

It's actually called MINIs Take Appalachia - organized by Dale Blankenship with Hampton Roads Club MINI .. starts in Staunton on the 17th and runs for a week through VA, WV, KY, I forget where-else. They have some great infamous driving roads on the itinerary. Check the HR MINI Facebook link I put in the first post for details and to post any questions. This Ice Cream jog is just to get those of us from MD and further north to Staunton for the start. (You can participate in as many or as few days of that event as you like; one of the MD / Carlisle members is doing the whole thing with them and using the Ice Cream jog to get to the start, also)

(Skyline Drive is part of the Ice Cream jog to get to Staunton; I do not believe it is part of the MINIs Take Appalachia event; there's a list of about 6-8 run roads for that event separately. Look under EVENTS on the FB page and then DETAILS for specifics)

  3. Thanks for the feedback; I will pull this together in the next couple of days and post it as an actual event by Friday.

At this point there would be 3-4 MINIs going, and perhaps a few more when the event has specific details.

Re: states covered. I live in Maryland. I am going to attend the first few days of the MINIs in Appalachia with the Hampton Roads group, which starts in Staunton VA, meeting on Saturday for dinner. So I to go from MD to VA regardless. Thinking 1 or 2 ice cream stops in MD, another in Front Royal (w lunch). There are no good WV options on the route these days, so we'll drive through it, but not be stopping.

People are welcome to join in at any point, and leave at any point. The Skyline Drive gets long and in the past we have cut off at Elkton (33). (The advantage to going all the way to Staunton - besides getting to meet up for dinner with likely a dozen or two more MINIs - is that then one is right on I-64 for getting home .. )

Rough guess is ~ 3 hours from MD to the lunch stop in Front Royal; another 2.5-3.5 for the Skyline Dr to Staunton (depending on if we cut off at Elkton or not)

  4. Gauging interest in an ice cream jog from Western MD to Staunton VA on Saturday, July 17 2021

I have organized this before as a 4-state Ice Cream jog, which was an all day affair and I don't want to start that early or spend all day as a 4-state ice cream jog does.

Tentatively thinking meeting in Frederick MD, an MD ice cream stop, a Front Royal lunch & ice cream stop, Skyline Drive to Staunton for final ice cream stop.

The date and timing is based on meeting up with the Hampton Roads MINI club for their dinner meetup in Staunton the night before the start of the week-long MINIs Take Appalachia.

Soooo .. I'm going to Staunton regardless. Have one other MD MINI'er who is doing the same. Figured I could make a formal MINI ice cream jog event if there is interest.

Post away -- ask questions. And if MINIs Take Appalachia piques your intrigue, more info including routes, hotels, dining, plans etc. is under the EVENTs tab on the HR Club MINI Facebook page here: HR Club MINI

  5. Scenario.
Blower motor was replaced 3 years ago (however, less than 15K miles ago - thanks Covid for interfering with our usual MINI mileage accruals)

It wouldn't come on yesterday. I can hear the AC compressor kick in, but nothing blows - not nor cold. Auto or manual. Full blast or otherwise. Nothing. Same symptoms as 3 years ago.

Checked all the usual suspect fuses today. All look unmarred.

While one could suspect the resistor / regulator, which apparently is common (and replacing a blower motor after 3 years / 15K miles is not)

    but ..

I read - and am told - that if it was the blower motor resistor / regulator that the fan *would* kick in if set to the highest setting. Reportedly at the highest setting it bypasses the resistor / regulator.

So ... my question is. Has anyone had a need to replace a blower motor resistor / regulator *without* the blower coming on at all? Or the fact that it will not come on at all, is that symptomatic of it being something other than the resistor / regulator?

    TIA

Heads up, the start is in Leesburg, not at Katie's (which is still closed due to covid).  Last 2 weekends have been a pretty good turnout at the Leesburg C&C.  Weather looks like it might be rain on sunday, so it's unclear how good the turnout will be.

As for the scavenger hunt, any more details that can be shared?  What's the lunch plan?

TWakefield: I may or may not need a co-pilot, can let you know at C&C if I do and you are still interested.
However, my money is on after R2 you will not feel like getting out of bed, much less driving. YMMV

Latest update... cancelled for 2021. MINIUSA seems to be planning a new version of MTTS for 2022 (rather than simply postponing “MINI Takes the Colonies”), but not quite sure. The website is showing the same route and implies postponement... again... but the embedded video seemed to imply a different route or event format.

Trying to decide if that "hint" in the video meant a different format in 2022, or if it meant that in 2021 there were going to be some smaller / local events across the county. I could see something like the MINIs at the Glen day happening at multiple tracks across the country -- a MINI "fix" until the next MTTS.

Still disappointed about this year, but what can you do?

  8. Not planning on MOTD this year since I don't go every year and I'd rather go when it's in "full swing" since it's been a few years.

With MTTS also canceled this year, I'm mulling MINI summer / fall vacation plans. (I still believe with all of the driving we do, it can be done safely)

That said - and this might not be the correct forum - if anyone hears of organized MINI events being held, please post. I haven't checked to see if MINIs in the Mountains is going to be held, but that's an event I've never attended (due to designated vacation time and $$ to MTTS or MOTM) that could be justified this year in absence of the other events. Other ideas?

I jokingly now call it MINIs take the Colonies 2020!!! 😜

That's funny ... after 2018 for the feedback survey, since I sensed it was going to be pared back this year, I suggested the Mississippi River Road ... then both sides of the country would have to spend a few days getting "to" and "from" but many people do that anyway, at least it felt like it was more "in the middle" .. oh, I had a personal bias, I really want to drive that one of these days!

(I also suggested they forego breakfast - since most stay in hotels that provide breakfast - and go back to doing the dinner / social / fun activities in the PM instead ... I'm not on the MINI USA MTTS planning committee, can ya tell??? :-))

  10. I'm so excited the event is coming through Frederick! Curious if there will be an organized event here since the closest dealer is in Montgomery County ... I do feel sorry for the MINIs west of the Mississippi who for their own reasons won't be able to participate this year - and missing the friends I met on the "west" route to Keystone in 2018. Tho I suppose that will be us in 2 years ...

  11. 2018 was my 10th year with a MINI, I committed to do the whole thing - whereever/whenever - and that was supposed to be my "fix" .. needless to say, I've already requested the 2020 dates for vacation this year .. no such thing as too much MTTS no matter how far I have to go to participate!

  12. For those who will be at MINI of Montgomery Meet and Greet but are not able to make the drive/lunch/ice cream event, I will have the "local" 50/50 raffle tickets with me at the dealership. I will be wearing a MINIs for a Cause Tshirt. As long as there is contact information on the back of the ticket, you do not need to be present to win.

You may also donate directly through Golden Valley Bank (scroll down to MINIs for a Cause) here:

  13. MINI for A CAUSE –

About: MINI FOR A CAUSE is an event that Norm and Jess Nelsen (MINI owners in CA who lost their home and several MINIs in the Paradise, CA fires last summer) are organizing with Chico Mini Cooper, Shasta MINIS, Capitol City MINIS & Mini & MINIS Int., co-sponsored with Butte Creek Country Club and Niello MINI. It is a Show & Shine MINIcar show Fundraiser for the youth of Northern California who lived through the nightmares of the Camp & Carr fires of last year. Most of these kids now have no place to go to relive their memories of childhood.

MINI for a Cause event Facebook Link

Let’s show some “east coast love” to support this cause for these children! As is often the case, there’s an initial outpouring of support, but as time passes, memories fade and more current events eclipse the devastation of the past.

It’s too far for a day drive, but we can help locally. Here’s how:

Saturday March 9th after the Meet and Greet at MINI of Montgomery County, we will take a ~ 1-1.5 hour drive to Beef – N – Buns in Paradise (get it?) in Frederick for some lunch and some fabulous ice cream. After lunch we will have a “local” 50/50 drawing with the proceeds designated to MINI FOR A CAUSE.

MINI FOR A CAUSE has a 50/50 raffle, raffle items (for tickets) and silent auction items. Any items bid on and won by one of our “local” MINIs will be shipped by the organizers for free. We can also buy 50/50 raffle tickets for the California based event. The list of raffle and silent auction items is attached – some are unique, collectible items.

If you are unable to attend the Meet and Greet at MINI of Montgomery County and/or lunch at Beef N Buns N Paradise but are interested in the donating to the charity or bidding on items, please send me a PM. List attached. Many pictures are on the FB page: MINI for a Cause Facebook Page
