  1. For those who are new to the group that I was talking with on Sunday about other MINI events worthy of interest .. I had mentioned the events at Watkins Glen several times .. as soon as I got home, this arrived in my mailbox.

Please note, this is a MINI USA sponsored event which generally translates into it being well attended, well organized, lots of corporate 'perks' (free food, door prizes from dealerships) .. it's definitely a "don't miss" .. if you need some other excuses to make a long weekend of it ... Corning Glass Museum 30 minutes away (trust me, 5 out of 5 starts with 3000 reviews or something like that) and it's Finger Lakes wine country. Now let me get my hotel booked before I hit Post on this one 🙂
(there will be a group caravanning on Friday from Carlisle PA and there is usually a contingent that caravans from Frederick to meet up with the Carlisle group) .. if any of that is of interest, don't post here, this is just an FYI, find Carlisle MINI on Meetup.

I'm glad it did, it was nice to see you on Saturday Susan.

For thought, Are there other ways we could be updating members on run details, and important info for those not on social media?

I think posting updates here is fine, I had just forgotten to turn on Follow Topic. Maybe if the forum could be set up to have the Follow Topic default to Yes if a member has posted a message?

Yes, we did remind everyone on our SM platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) on Thursday that this was a picnic lunch. The wind seems to have died down and it should be around 48° by lunch. We recommend bringing a blanket to sit on, it will keep your bum toasty!

Oooops, ya caught me,. not on social media .
But I also hadn't checked "follow topic" on this forum, so if an update was posted about the lunch plan, my bad, I wouldn't get it.
    It all worked out ...

  4. Yes, my email said May, so I signed up and just noticed the change of date. I left the RSVP to Yes at this point. I was actually looking forward to it being "in lieu of the drive to the Dragon" for any not making it there this year :-)

    Rims are true, no leaks
Photos tell the story - style, condition
Pickup in DMV .. taking up garage space, shoot me an offer

  6. Cool - yay - that's the MINI run way.

"This" is what I'm doing, join me if you like, I was planning on doing "it" regardless ...

See you in the morning ..

PS I got a whole lot of holiday prep I committed to finishing this weekend .. committing to C&C and the drive has given me a deadline ..🤣

  7. Thanks for the update - Creekside on my way home from Harvest Gap so that'll work -- I just won't be having lunch at Harvest Gap and it is pretty good food!

    See you in the morning.

Trying to recruit a few more so you get to the 5-8 .. (including my son with his BRZ - of which I saw no representation at C&C last time I went, but he's not an early riser ... )

  8. C&C was impressive -- and well behaved. (Some of the C&C's in NC got punted out of the parking lots because hotheads insisted on doing burnouts when leaving the the hosts got annoyed .. hopefully this group stays well-behaved. Oh, I don't mean the MINIs :-))

Was a great day for a drive and fun roads, fun company, and decent food .. thanks for organizing and to the others who contributed. After a lull in driving last year, WINIFiED is thrilled to get to go out and play with her friends!

  9. Since there is not a holiday event conflict on the DCMM calendar, I thought I would post this event.

I believe it's the 7th or 8th year that the club has hosted this event.

Would be interested in caravanning with others from the DC/MD/VA/PA area if anyone else is attending.

See details regarding event, drives, lodging, dining, etc. here: AMM Holiday Weekend Dec 10-12

The limit isn't anything to do with the capacity of Monks, we had twenty MINIs last year. It's my personal preference to keep runs I lead to this size.

I based my comment about Monks on the event description about "overwhelming Monks last year";' group size limit is always organizer's choice.

  11. Since the RSVPs are full, maybe meet you at Monks?

And if you are good with more MINIs, I assure you Monks can handle twice this size .. we show up on W&OD bike rides and there can be 30 people ... and they are likely super glad for the business these days.

  12. I was going to say it depends on the date .. because it wasn't until I got to the "Discussion" link that I knew what date it was. (I hadn't heard that MTTB was canceled, but I wasn't planning to attend, so maybe that's why)

I'd plan to be there. I have an afternoon commitment so won't be able to stay at the brewery for long,

And I am weather contingent. Sorry. No fun to run in the rain ...

  13. MINI of Naptown @10a .. a little bit more of a drive, but since I recruited my sons to be my co-pilots, figured they'd enjoy seeing the area.

Have fun, everyone! I gave up two other MINI events scheduled the same weekend to be able to participate -- my theory always being if MINI USA sponsor it, show up .. to encourage them to keep sponsoring! 😊

  14. For those "Going" - please post or DM with what part of the drive - or all - you are planning to do. There are 2 others from Carlisle MINI who will be joining us too, but not the whole way. It's helpful to know where MINI'ers will be joining and to what point for planning and timing purposes. Thanks! Looking forward to meeting you!

When is Mini's in the Appalachia? Is the list for that event full? I've been wanting to do a Skyline cruise. Put out a feeler in the Mini USA group on FB but never got any responses 😪

It's actually called MINIs Take Appalachia - organized by Dale Blankenship with Hampton Roads Club MINI .. starts in Staunton on the 17th and runs for a week through VA, WV, KY, I forget where-else. They have some great infamous driving roads on the itinerary. Check the HR MINI Facebook link I put in the first post for details and to post any questions. This Ice Cream jog is just to get those of us from MD and further north to Staunton for the start. (You can participate in as many or as few days of that event as you like; one of the MD / Carlisle members is doing the whole thing with them and using the Ice Cream jog to get to the start, also)

(Skyline Drive is part of the Ice Cream jog to get to Staunton; I do not believe it is part of the MINIs Take Appalachia event; there's a list of about 6-8 run roads for that event separately. Look under EVENTS on the FB page and then DETAILS for specifics)

  18. Thanks for the feedback; I will pull this together in the next couple of days and post it as an actual event by Friday.

At this point there would be 3-4 MINIs going, and perhaps a few more when the event has specific details.

Re: states covered. I live in Maryland. I am going to attend the first few days of the MINIs in Appalachia with the Hampton Roads group, which starts in Staunton VA, meeting on Saturday for dinner. So I to go from MD to VA regardless. Thinking 1 or 2 ice cream stops in MD, another in Front Royal (w lunch). There are no good WV options on the route these days, so we'll drive through it, but not be stopping.

People are welcome to join in at any point, and leave at any point. The Skyline Drive gets long and in the past we have cut off at Elkton (33). (The advantage to going all the way to Staunton - besides getting to meet up for dinner with likely a dozen or two more MINIs - is that then one is right on I-64 for getting home .. )

Rough guess is ~ 3 hours from MD to the lunch stop in Front Royal; another 2.5-3.5 for the Skyline Dr to Staunton (depending on if we cut off at Elkton or not)

  19. Gauging interest in an ice cream jog from Western MD to Staunton VA on Saturday, July 17 2021

I have organized this before as a 4-state Ice Cream jog, which was an all day affair and I don't want to start that early or spend all day as a 4-state ice cream jog does.

Tentatively thinking meeting in Frederick MD, an MD ice cream stop, a Front Royal lunch & ice cream stop, Skyline Drive to Staunton for final ice cream stop.

The date and timing is based on meeting up with the Hampton Roads MINI club for their dinner meetup in Staunton the night before the start of the week-long MINIs Take Appalachia.

Soooo .. I'm going to Staunton regardless. Have one other MD MINI'er who is doing the same. Figured I could make a formal MINI ice cream jog event if there is interest.

Post away -- ask questions. And if MINIs Take Appalachia piques your intrigue, more info including routes, hotels, dining, plans etc. is under the EVENTs tab on the HR Club MINI Facebook page here: HR Club MINI
