I cant say specifically for the hooks, as I haven't looked at them, but You might want to try and put a mat or blanket (not folded) or a towel laid across the seat before installing... it catches a LOT of spillage. Does your snugride have the European type push on connectors or the tear shaped loop with one open side on the belt?

Have you had a chance to run the lights and see if your light pattern is still good or is it more diffuse than when it was new? Is the light output vastly improve?
