Thanks Bert! I might be at the detailing clinic-part deaux next month.
I wish that I could make the second clinic. I found the first clinic in July VERY helpful and informative but I have a scheduling conflict on the date of the second clinic. We will meet up sometime.

Welcome Lawry!
I hope to meet you soon.

As of October 1, the law is changing in MARYLAND. I copied this text from a post on C3M for those who don't already know.House Bill 577 states that effective 10-1-2013 any car mfg. without means to display front plate will not be required to do such. The front plate will be needed to be kept inside the car but not displayed. Now if your car has the tag backing plate already on it you might be sol.
So, when you buy a NEW MINI or one from another state that didn't require a front plate (no backing plate currently installed), just tell the Dealer NOT to drill for it and don't install one yourself.
Probably a good idea to carry a copy of the legislation with for the cops (and dealers) who didn't get the message, so I'm adding a link to the Bill for anyone who wants to carry with (along with that useless front tag) http://static.openstates.org/documents/md/MDD00043637
YAY!!! :congrats:
We MD drivers will have to watch for the update/change to the law on or after Oct. 1st, since carrying a copy of the MD House Bill will not do much, it is not the law. As of today, the current statute still states that 2 plates are required on cars (Class A vehicles):

White is only for between May and October..
Seriously, just think of the brake dust...
I thought it was only between Memorial Day and Labor Day, as with seersucker suits...

Around 5 PM this afternoon, on the Inner Loop of the Beltway in VA, just before the American Legion Bridge, I got a smile and head nod from a guy in a black hardtop with a white roof and a VA plate "WTF OMG". It was the best response that I have had this week. I'll take it.

Darryl has graciously offered to host another detailing clinic for those interested in knowing how to properly wash and detail your car from start (wheel and rim washing and the 2 bucket wash approach) to polishing to every last thing. This will not be a MINI only event this time but I found the July event VERY informative.
Darryl is the local supplier for Adam's Premium Car Care Products and has supplies for sale. (http://www.adamspolishes.com)
10 AM start
Odds and Ends Detailing (http://www.oddsandendsdetailing.com)
is just off S. Sterling Blvd, 3 blocks east of Rt 28, not far from Sterling MINI
201 Davis Drive, Suite LL (lite industrial park, around the back)
Sterling, VA 20164

Darryl,
Thank you for offering to do this again. I got a lot out of the July clinic but I'm sorry to say that I will be traveling that day and will not be able to make it. Bummer for me. :banghead:
I will move this to our DCMM calendar so the date is posted.
Bert.

Man, no one EVER waves back at me......I passed 3 mini's on Arlington Ridge Road just this morning and no luck....
It makes the waves you get even more special. :itsme:

Welcome, welcome.
Keep providing pictures as you modify your ride. :top:

Not a fan.
But congratulations on your engagement. :congrats:

I have to second Jim's advice on the Porter Cable random Orbit polisher. The one I have seen a lot of people recommend is model #7424.
Darryl at Odds & Ends Detailing in Sterling demonstrated the Porter Cable, Flex, and another during the MINI class and the Porter Cable was safe for just about everyone. That is if you want to spend ~$120 on a polisher.

If I only had the time, money, and a good left knee (for the clutch).
I love Mini panel vans. Oh what fun.

It seems that at least twice a week in have been passing a BRG convertible with white bonnet stripes on River Rd. either entering Potomac in the morning or leaving in the afternoon/evening. I have been getting a consistent friendly wave but I have to get his license plate now (don't know if it is MD, DC, or VA).
He is the only MINI that I see that I can count on waving.
Save the wave! :itsme:

HA!!! Katie's not mad, I was about to get the secrets of autocross out of him :banghead:
I thought you realized on your own, don't listen to the tires and keep the radio on. :motor:

Thank you, thank you to everyone that planned, organized, shopped for, and made the event happen. Special thanks to Craig and especially Lona (the mastermind). My daughter and I had a great time. This was her first DCMM event and she enjoyed talking with everyone and seeing all of our MINIs. (No not Victoria this time, it was Charlotte.)
Oh... sorry that Anne-Marie could not make her whoppie pies this year so I could not resist lining up the twinkies in the box to make them look like MINI-ons Twinkies. The new Hostess products just got back into our Giant this past week so I had to get them. :embarassed:
Point of order: I was not the only twinkie procurer, great minds think alike.
I will try to get my co-pilot in life to bake her whoppie pies next year. A few people did ask for them.
-
Amy,
It was great meeting you too. I hope we see you at future events too.
Bert.

That's a really great price!
I think it is a good price for the DCMM family. If there is no interest over the coming days I will put it on Craig's List at a slightly higher price.

All you serious DIYers out there.
I have a Milwaukee, Model #6096, 7" & 9" Heavy Duty Sander that I am not using and it needs a good home. I am still assembling the accessories that go with it but if anyone is interested please PM me.
It originally cost around $250 and a new model still costs around $250. I am asking $75 firm and depending on the box of accessories (pads and wheels, etc.) that can be discussed too.
This is a SERIOUS sander that weighs ~15 lbs and can destroy.... sand anything down in no time at all.
Here is a link to the operator's manual: http://documents.milwaukeetool.com/58-14-2674d10.pdf

Here are some finished pics of our guinea pig/test/demo car for the day.
Great job. The pictures still don't do it justice.
Glad to see that you took the blue, painter's tape off of the bonnet.

Is that a foam "gun" in the first pictures?
Right you are. Darryl used a foam gun to apply the Adam's Car Shampoo to the car. He sells all the products and equipment too.

We had a decent turnout for the Detailing Party at Odds & Ends Detailing today. ...
and NO, that is not Ernie being detailed.
Ernie is parked in the background and that MCS R56, even though a BRG II with the same spoked wheels, has a black roof and no bonnet stripes.

We had a decent turnout for the Detailing Party at Odds & Ends Detailing today. Laura (no, the other Laura, as in Laura and Jim) was the only woman able to make it with the injuries and sore muscles going around. Laura and Jim, Monty, Craig (no, the other Craig), Rey, and I had personal instructions by Darryl on detailing. Everything from the 2 bucket wash (or was it a 3 bucket: soap, mitt rinse, and wheels) to paint restoration and polishing, VRT, plastics, leather, and glass polishing. I learned a lot of things and I think we purchased a good amount of product.
Darryl is willing to hold another class in the fall if there is an interest and we get on the schedule. I highly recommend it.
Thanks Darryl! :top:

Ali,
Get better. I was looking forward to see you as part of the group. You will be missed.
I think we need to get you a smaller camera, or you have to stop whipping your head around when you see another MINI. Rest up.
Bert.

That could work.
Potluck anyone? I can bring some meat to grill
That takes it to another level of planning and prep. :hmmmm2:

Thanks for the update.
I guess only motorcycles, semi rigs, and some farm equipment have the one plate rule in MD. :hmmmm:
