  1. Think I might've seen Bert on our way to White's Ferry (ultimately heading to Leesburg Outlets) yesterday. You were coming down White's Ferry road, leaving Poolesville? A little after noonish. It was a green with white stripes...

Nope, sorry, I was in Reston at that time. :frown:

There are 7 or 8 BRGs with stripes that I have seen in the area. We have 3 in the DCMMs now (Cricket, Poison Ivy, and Ernie) and I personally know of 2 others (non-MINIacs) and see 2 others on River Rd most mornings.

We all look the same to non-BRGers.

  2. Just spotted in LA area near the beach:

Blue hard top/black stripes with tag "GOLDN"

    ...belonging to Gracie Gold.

    (via NBC coverage)

Gracie was driving her MINI away from the camera at the top of Apolo Ohno's interview with her, shot in Los Angeles prior to the games. It aired for the second time about 8:15pm tonight. You might be able to find it online.

    ...Mike

    with Illinois plates.

  3. Any pics of Ernie's new shoes??

I understand missing a garage. At our last house I had a two car, 30' by 25' that was built to my specs. when we did renovations. Our current house (purchased 4 years ago) has a "two car" garage from the 1970's. I can get two cars in only when I strip out everything else (shelves, tools, yard machines, etc.). We are looking into options.

Ernie doesn't get to wear his new 17" summer shoes until the snow has stopped and the temperature is consistently above 40. He is comfortable and over confident in his 16" winter shoes right now.

  4. I finished a little project yesterday to get Ernie's extra set of tires up and out of the way in the garage. I took inspiration from a few images on the internet and built a wood frame, wall mounted, tire storage rack. It is built with deck screws, reinforced with deck hangers, lagged into the wall, and has wire cable supports.

As usual, it took longer than expected but I like the result. Yes, that is an old pink pool float tube that has been repurposed to protect the wheel finish.

  5. Ooo, I totally forgot about the auto hobby shops. Good call!

TireRack.com has a Recommended Installer page that you can use as a reference: http://www.tirerack.com/installer/index.jsp

The installers have a set TireRack rate. You can look at the reviews and the equipment that they have in their shops. If you are running low profile run flats on expensive rims you want to make sure that they have a newer mounting machine that can handle the job without damaging anything.

I used NTB in McLean for 3 cars over the past 3 months and I am very happy with their service… so far.

I am having MINI of MoCo mount my new 17" summer set from TireRack to the new wheels that I have ordered through MINI of MoCo. The MINI dealerships are more expensive but they have the right equipment. Also, btwn saving money through TireRack, the DCMM discount at MINI of MoCo, and getting a good deal on the wheels, TPSs, and stems from a beautiful Parts person (Thank you!), I don't mind paying a little more for the my home dealership service. I know that I can take it back if they screw up toe assembly, mounting, and balancing.

  6. Celia knows, but don't tell Ernie that I ordered his 2 year old birthday present this afternoon. I ordered a set of 17" Crown Spokes (#104 in white) and matching TPSs this afternoon while at MINI of MoCo. Ernie thought he was going in for a check up.

A set of Michelin Pilot Sport 3, 205/45ZR17, (not Super Sports and not run flats) came from TireRack this afternoon. They will be mounted and balanced in time for his 2nd birthday in April. Even though they will probably be on him before then.

  7. I think that I gave Kate a slight worry when I was tagging CHLE PEP in Bethesda yesterday. I was picking up lunch at the Corner Bakery next to Montgomery Mall and saw that a MINI was parked next to my Jeep (Jake) and they had a DCMM sticker. (I was giving Ernie the morning off with the ice and rain.) I looked around the restaurant trying to see a MINI owner but didn't recognize anyone. I took this picture and then went out to tag CHLE PEP. As I was putting the DCMM card on the driver's window, Kate comes out asking what I was doing to her car?

Sorry that I startled you Kate and made you come out into the cold weather. :s: We exchanged pleasantries and went on our way.

  8. I need enough for all the food, (remember how much there was last year?) and for the swap table. Brian's tables are perfect for the food! Bert, would it be possible to get 2 or 3 tables from you too?

We can get 2 to 3, or more, tables to you before the party. Do you need chairs too?

  9. We can use a few folding tables for the post-holiday party. And folding chairs if possible. If anyone has some we can borrow for the day, please let me know! Thank you!! ~Lona

Lona, We have 8 folding tables and 12 folding chairs that are available, if you need. We don't need to use them this holiday season. The only thing would be getting them from Potomac to Annandale and back. I may be able to deliver some of them in our Volvo SUV and pick them up after. My sister lives just around the corner from you off of Braddock Rd.

  10. I have one (1) used Continental 16" All Season tire "ContiProContact SSR", 195/55R 16 87V with about 9k mile on it and about 5/32 or 6/32 of tread remaining for a good home. If anyone is running these OEM tires and would like a FREE back-up / replacement for a damaged tire please let me know.

I bought this one to replace a tire that I got a non-repairable flat in when leaving PoA MINI after the Halloween party in 2012 and it has usable life left. I hate to see it go to trash. Let me know and it is yours. I can deliver in much of MoCo or NoVa (McLean to Herndon) areas or arrange a meet up. Let me know.

  11. On the run last year a few of us called WTOP (103.5 FM) to let them know of our progress around the Beltway. They were really great and made at least 4 or 5 progress reports during their traffic reports on the :08s to announce the looonng line of MINIs rounding the Beltway.

All Verizon and AT&T users need to do is to dial #1035 on their cell phones, usually the traffic team picks up the phone. The first caller needs to explain the event and the direction the line will be taking (395 South to the Beltway - Inner Loop towards Tysons Corner, that is the clockwise loop) and then follow on callers should tell them a landmark or exit number you just passed or will be approaching. WTOP was trying to follow us on the TrafficLand cameras last year.

REMEMBER... hands free in Maryland now. It is now a primary offense to be using a cell while driving.

I only wish that I could make it this year. :frown:

  12. LOL, so you are saying nothing is going to change?

I completely agree with Craig's words of wisdom.

After 24 years of marriage I qualify to agree with Craig's insight. Your job is to agree and to keep her happy.

I know my place in the family, I am the jester and the janitor. I'm there to entertain and to maintain and fix things. But not to pull nails out of her head.

Keep agreeing and provide chocolate when required (always). Keep their serotonin levels as high as possible. Dark chocolate works very well with most.
