I feel like you have built up enough MINI cred, that one of us can post it for you, and just direct them you your profile if interested. Is it previously posted and just needs to be bumped to the top. If not just PM me the info and I will post it. I'm not scared of those administrators, lol.

    :adore: PM coming shortly.

EDIT: No it won't - mailbox is full. I deleted everything I have, it still says I'm full. Bah.

  2. Thank Jim.

I am complaining about the quoted estimate of $600 by D&V--because half of the amount is mentioned as the cost of the paint and labor for the paint [whereas the glossy black bumper requires no paint]. There is a difference between doing a great job (however expensive) and maintaining a business integrity.

To be fair, not even my shop knew there would be no painting until the part arrived. My guess is, they didn't know, either.

Hopefully you found a solution that works for you. Good luck!

    Peace,

    Jim

  3. Thank you Jim. That's it. The part is $55; and D&V is asking $600 and five days. Plus, they are referring to hidden costs. HIGHWAY ROBBERY!

First of all, D&V is probably one of THE best body shops in the area, hands-down. Nobody will tell you they're cheap, because they're not. I have friends with high-end cars, not to mention well-trusted detailers, that only deal with D&V. That speaks volumes to me. If they want too much, in your opinion, go elsewhere. They're not the only game in town. Caliber Collision in Purcellville did mine, for less than my insurance deductible would have been.

Take a photo of the specific piece that is broken and post it here. If it's the black shiny plastic bumper cover that your license plate bracket mounts to, then that is a $55 part. BUT the front fascia most likely needs to come off to replace it. And in my case, the lower grill surround was also cracked but you couldn't tell until parts started coming off.

Removing and re-installing all of those parts takes time, and time is money. So expect to be out a couple of hundred bucks in labor OR buy the part and install yourself. I'm sure there are folks around here willing to help out.

Sorry to hear about your damage but complaining about prices of ONE PLACE isn't productive. If you don't like the prices or their suggestions, move on. Plenty of places in the DC area to deal with.

  4. Comrades and Camaradas.

Some careless fool damaged my front bumper. There is a thin crack in the black plastic panel under the grille.

Need your suggestions for a great repair shop.

Thank you; I wish I could trace the culprit!

Are you talking about the glossy black bumper cover? It's a $55 part and comes as you see it, no painting required. If a body shop replaces it, you're looking at a ~$200 bill (due to the labor). Ask me how I know ;)

  5. I think most of this group got to the rally point really early in the morning. If I recall correctly, we were third or fourth row from front. Didn't take us that long.

I wasn't that far behind, HOWEVER I was ushered to the front row of the 2nd batch. So it took a long, long, long time to depart.

I typically don't run with groups, especially groups that like to cut in on my sleep time

  6. What's the rough agenda for noobs? How many days before/after, are there other attractions, organized MINI events, fun runs?

    Rough agenda is:

Friday - check in, get swag, etc.

Saturday AM - drive to the marshaling / staging point.

You could be sitting at the staging point for several hours. I think for us, once they started departing, we departed 60-90 minutes later.

Saturday afternoon - arrive at St Ignace event location. Stay an hour or 2.

    Sunday - go home.

We took 2 days to drive up, and 2 to drive home. We used Toledo and Cleveland as our halfway points. Some folks will tough it out and drive the entire 11 or so hours to Mack City / St Ignace. I'm ok with spending the extra time and money to do a more leisurely trip ;)

    -Jim

  7. We stayed in St Ignace, and will do so again in 2017. If they do 2017 like 2015, the morning will start on the Mack City side of the bridge, and go to St Ignace. So if you stay at St Ignace, you'll have at least 3 trips across the bridge, at $4 each. If you stay in Mack City, you'll have only 2 trips across. Also, there are more places to eat - and pretty sure more hotels - on the Mack City side.

  8. There is no automatic car wash that is safe for a cabrio.

Not saying it's recommended, but I'm not sure I agree with the "none are safe" statement. Some car washes know enough to turn off the brush that goes over the top for ragtops, for example.

We've run Bender through an automatic car wash w/out problems at least once that I'm aware of. We got the slightest bit of water coming it, but I could probably replicate it by putting a high pressure stream close to any car window.

  9. So what does everyone in DCMM typically do in terms of lodging? Is it easy to stay at a less pricey place than MTTS partner hotels and still meet up in the morning events and exits? I'm looking to book reservations soon before options become sparse, would just like to know others' thoughts. Thanks!

Lots of schools of thought. We've done the host hotels before. We've also stayed at hotels closer to the rise-n-shine location. There are typically very little, if any, happenings at the host hotel. You're getting (arguably) a better rate than you would if you booked on your own. But that's not always the case.

A lot of the host hotels are booked - at least, the group rate block of rooms are sold out. You can always call the hotel, if it happens to be one you want to stay at. Some cities like St Ignace don't have a lot of hotels to begin with. Mackinack City is on the south side of the bridge, and might have rooms available.

We've looked for rooms near the morning events, if the events for that city were announced when we booked our hotels. For the others, I took a WAG based on what I knew about the area, where the nearest 'track' was, etc. Park City, UT still doesn't have an evening event, at the time of this post. And the morning event is on the opposite side of Salt Lake City from Park City. So, we might end up changing our reservation for that city. Or not. Too soon to tell :)

  10. Any recommended product to clean the interior beige/ivory roof?

Are you talking about the headliner? There's an upholstery cleaner by Adams that you spray on, lightly agitate with your fingers, and blot off. That might work.

Usually all I do is lightly vacuum the headliner (for pet hair). I've not had to do any cleaning beyond that.
