  1. I know this late are we doing anything for lunch?

Doubtful. I know my wife and I are going to bail at 211 and head home. This is a loosely organized run (no route sheets, no true end point).

Best to take a snack or buy an extra donut

  2. FYI. I was at the donut shop at 12:00 noon today. They'll be able to accommodate us. I saw coffee, in the big pump-style carafes. Lots of donut choices, sadly I didn't sample any.

It's about 5 miles to Skyline Drive from the donut shop. I never made it, due to the traffic congestion. I gave up when I was about 1-2 miles from the entrance.

Under normal traffic conditions, expect a ~15 minute drive. (As I type this, Google says it's currently 40 minutes.)

  3. I haven't decided on anything yet nor test driven anything. The only things really on my radar are either a GTI or Golf R. I've always loved the GTI and the stupid MINI. I can't do anything basic like a Honda, although I joked about it after all the stupid problems I've been having.

I've owned several VWs, to include the GTI and Golf R. And if you read the forums, you'll find that there's the same love/hate relationship as with MINI folks. The common thread is, the ones having issues are the ones modding the crap out of their cars. That's also a reason I shy away from used cars. At least with a new one, I know what's been tinkered with (nothing).

IMO if you go VW, save some $$ and get a GTI over an R. Especially buying used. I think my Golf R was one of the rarest out there, because it had exactly zero mods. Even the tires were stock/original when I sold it.

Why can't you go 'basic' like a Honda? Too boring for you? I've found that with cars - or most things in life - the reliable (or 'safe') choices are typically the boring choices

What does "adventure run" mean? adTHANKSvance

    In a nutshell:

    1. No route sheets.

    2. No dry run.

    3. Due to #2, you 'may' end up on a dirt/gravel road and/or get turned around momentarily.

That being said, #3 won't happen on this run. For one thing, I'm hoping to do a dry run of at least part of the route on Saturday (read: I want to try the donuts). And, there are several 'trusted' roads in the vicinity.

  5. I'm not going, but considering the delays with getting through the gate, perhaps the lead car can have payment for the number of MINIs in the line or the drivers should have exact change to speed up the process so you all can stay together.

If they have all lanes open (3-4) we'll inevitably get split up. We'll figure it out. It's an Adventure Run, after all :top:

  6. Was this on the Salt Flats? I know a few folks that either a) did the Flats on the way west, or b) did them the day they arrived at Wendover.

If that's the case, then no harm, no foul.

  7. I still have these. For TODAY ONLY (March 23) they are FREE but you MUST pick them up TODAY. If you can't commit then don't respond. PM or email preferred. I'm in Purcellville, but depending on the time and place suggested I 'might' meet you. But for FREE - for $150 mats! - if you can't at least get to Leesburg then perhaps these aren't for you

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but there are too many folks that want free stuff yet balk at driving somewhere to get the free stuff.

  8. We are really glad that everyone had a good time. We enjoyed hosting and having everyone here, it was lots and lots of fun! We'll put together a "lost and found" as we come across things but for now, it's just two crock pots, a bottle of bourbon and an adjustable "EZ" wrench...

The bourbon.... it's mine. Yeah. I left it. Um. Accidentally. Yeah. I can describe it. It's brown. And... bourbon. And.... brown.

Check with Mark. I know he brought a bottle.
