  1. Cool. Different logistics in the rear of my Clubbie (which I can't show you a pic of as she's at PMOA for the entire holiday weekend and I'm driving loaner Stormtrooper Countryman)

Where you've drilled your hole is the exact location of the power port in my boot (yep, Clubbies have a 2nd one back there). I've been trying to figure out how to duplicate the existing lighting that is on one side in the boot to the other. I know the trick for installing the 2nd reverse light is getting an OEM UK one, but I haven't investigated very far in doing the same with the boot light.

The R56 has the same 12v receptacle in the rear as the R55. That's what was used as a base mount for the extra light.

I'll save you some research time: http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop.php?action=productshow&id=804

  2. I finished a little project yesterday to get Ernie's extra set of tires up and out of the way in the garage. I took inspiration from a few images on the internet and built a wood frame, wall mounted, tire storage rack. It is built with deck screws, reinforced with deck hangers, lagged into the wall, and has wire cable supports.

As usual, it took longer than expected but I like the result. Yes, that is an old pink pool float tube that has been repurposed to protect the wheel finish.

That's awesome Bert! We did something similar in the gardening shed. Lona's summer tires are kind of lonesome out there now though.

  3. Once the weather clears up, Hannibal is getting new shoes. I'd like to upgrade to 18" wheels with a suggested tire size of 215/35-18. I did some back of the envelope math and it seems like they should fit without altering the suspension, as the total size of the new wheels plus lower profile tires appears to be relatively close. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject before I make the investment?

If you'd like to make sure, here's a link to a wheel/tire size calculator.

While I never ran 18's, I did go so far as to run 245/40's on the R56 and Merlin's summer tires were 215/45's (all on 17" rims).

You'll get opinions on both sides of the fence when it comes to 18's, that's for sure. Some will swear by them because they have less sidewall and therefore, extremely responsive steering and that's their priority. Others will steer you away (yes, pun intended) from them because you do sacrifice ride quality when you start talking about an 18" wheel and a 35 series profile.

Take a good hard look at where you drive because pot holes are going to become you worst nightmare. With so little sidewall, bending rims isn't out of the question.

Run Flat vs. non Run Flat has been beat to death pretty well but the arguments are along the same lines - what's your priority and what are you willing to compromise on.

  4. Yep, any cars, trucks or SUV's are welcome as long as they fit in the garage. If anyone would like to drop a vehicle off to be worked on, that's also fine. We'll have a responsible adult (which excludes me of course) pull it into and out of the garage for the work to be done.

  5. Well, it looks like another winter storm is bearing down upon us so I'm here to offer something to cheer you up!

After lots of deliberation and brainstorming, we've finally settled on a Tshirt design for MINIs On The Dragon.

I'm attaching the artists representation of the shirt so you can see it now. We opted for a gray Tshirt this year, that's something new and you'll notice that the design features a 2nd Generation MINI while still paying homage to the 1st Generation.

Ordering information is now in post #14 of this thread.

  6. Funny guy aren't you! I'll load 'em up for you if you show up with your checkbook, otherwise, I'll deliver 'em if you've got your checkbook... This is paying for the rocker guards and fenders for Homer! Gotta build the zombie apocalypse vehicle ya know!

  7. Okay everyone, I've got one more "big" item from Merlin that I'd like to deliver to a new home...

I have a set of 4 Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheels wrapped with a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. The wheels are gloss black, 17x7, +45 offset so they will fit over all OEM brakes and from what I'm told, all aftermarket big brake kits. Most of you have been around and heard the discussion on the tires, they are just darned awesome summer tires. This set also has post refresh (2011 and later) TPMS sensors in them.

The tires were purchased, mounted and put on the car early last summer and they were removed in October when I put the winter tires on.

In addition to the wheels, tires and TPMS sensors, I have a full set of Tire Rack wheel wrap/carriers AND felt liners that protect the face of the wheel.

Asking price for the entire package deal is $1000.

Price it out folks and you'll find that this price is only slightly more than the cost of the wheels so you are getting the tires, TPMS sensors and the wraps/carriers for free. Anyone?

  8. Just so you guys know where I put the board meeting in important things in my life... The New Orleans Saints are playing at 4:35. You'll have to pardon me if I keep checking my phone for the scores...

    :)

I picked up a package of 5 layer dip, chips, a meat and cheese party tray and a mediterranean sampler tray. Oh, I slaved over a hot shopping cart for a small package of cookies too! I figured while I was at BJ's, I may as well ask Catalina if I could help here with something for us to snack on while figuring out how to fix the world! :)

  9. I wholeheartedly approve of this post and regret I was not there to experience the Labranado!

Don't worry, you'll have your own soon enough. It'll be like you walked in the door wearing bacon underwear - they'll be all over you.

P.S. if you do have bacon underwear, I don't want/need to know so there's no need for any confirmation...

  10. For those of you coming up early we are going to do another potluck on Upper Upper Shuckstack. We're thinking of smoking some chickens and meats and bringing them up, you bring the sides and desserts.

Of course there will be the traditional scotch tasting too. Talk to Mark about that though, I just handle the food part. Craig and Lona got a smoker and that thing makes some amazing chickens.

Who's coming early in the week? This is usually a fun way to start off the week :eating::eating::eating:

Anything that is smoked will have to ride with you Ali. I'm afraid that we'll stop and have to eat all of it between here and Fontana village!

  11. We are really glad that everyone had a good time. We enjoyed hosting and having everyone here, it was lots and lots of fun! We'll put together a "lost and found" as we come across things but for now, it's just two crock pots, a bottle of bourbon and an adjustable "EZ" wrench...

We couldn't wait to go get the boys this morning and all three of them are really, really happy to be back home.

  12. Can't beat this deal. We have a Bowflex Extreme 2 SE home gym. It has a 100lb upgrade to the power rods so it's total is 310lbs for your workout. Leg extension and all of the optional straps, bars and grips. It has always been set up inside or in the garage and it has a lifetime warranty on it's bits and pieces.

How do you get it? For $200, I can load it up, deliver it to your house and, if you'd like, help you assemble it. At this price, it's less than 10% of what it would cost new.

Anyone ready to kick start those New Years resolutions?

PM or email if you are interested.
