  1. I looked in a cabinet in the garage recently and I found an oil filter and oil pan drain plug crush washer for a 2nd Gen MINI. I thought I'd already used all of them or found good homes for them. I also have a 5qt container of motor oil (forgot to note the brand/viscosity) that I had for an oil change. I'm pretty sure that it's the MINI specified viscocity and either Mobile 1 or Castroil.

     

    This stuff needs a good home as I have no use for the filter and I'm running Royal Purple lubricants in the Jeepster.

    I don't know, that might be a bit much don't you think? How's this though? Ali's forward speed is directly proportional to the gimpiness of her zombie knee!

     

    Oh, and there's no room for a radio so that will help reduce the noise pollution.

  4. 80hp is generous, mine came from the factory with 36hp and a few have likely fallen out along the way.

     

    We can cruise at our own pace.

     

    Bring a couple of tow straps, we'll have a party! I'll even wash the mud off of Homer before the event so he doesn't drop any "land minds" on the road for you!

  5. 60? As in miles per hour! Is this cannonball run? Is the beltway downhill the whole way? I may have to drift with Watson so we can have 80 hp between us. :laugh:

     

    Don't worry, I've got a tow strap and you can "hang out" with Homer for a lap.

  6. Wow, what a great day yesterday! Out of all of the DCMM picnics that I have attended, I think we got the best weather and the nicest location yet! That breeze was awesome, the humidity was down and it wasn't too hot and of course, lots of shade as well!

     

    It was a great crowd and so nice to see so many take time to come out, socialize and have some good picnic food.

     

    A HUGE thanks to everyone that was waiting so eagerly in the parking lot to help set things up and I can't express enough thanks to Monty and Sherm for helping with the grilling duties. All of the food that was brought to share was really, really good too.

     

    All in all, I'd say it was a nearly perfect afternoon!

  7. Has anyone removed the chrome tail light bezels? and if so, how do you get them off?

     

    You guys are carving new roads into the 3rd Gen MINI frontier!

     

    Corey is correct though, I always used a good trim removal tool to pop the tail light surrounds off. I think having at least two usually worked pretty well.

     

    If you tackle the job, you'd have a strong and appreciative following if you take a few pictures and describe the process. Motoring Alliance, NAM, DCMM and others would love to start getting information like that posted for other F56 owners.

  8. I'm not going to open up RSVPs for this event because it is hosted by another club and we can RSVP there. If someone wants to coordinate a run to meet up with them we can start a different event and RSVP for that.

     

    I've been to this event before and it's a lot of fun and they fundraise for an animal rescue group.

     

    Second on that! It really is a super event and either rolling in with the HR MINI crowd or being there when they arrive is lots and lots of fun! Lona and I would love to go down there and take the boys but we are heading out to Nevada that morning to visit family.

  9. I have a quadcopter built on a DJI Flamewheel F-450 frame that I'd like to sell or trade. I'll get a full inventory of what goes with it but here are the main points:

     

    -DJI F-450 frame with DJI motors, 10" props. I replaced the ESC's but still have the DJI Opto 30's that will go with the package.

    -3DRobotics v2.6 flight controller (A never used v2.5 controller for backup/spare)

    -External GPS and Compass

    -3DRobotics wireless telemetry radios

    -Fat Shark Predator V2 FPV goggles with "cloverleaf" omni directional antennas and spare battery for goggles

    -Gyro stabilized camera gimbal mount - for GoPro action cameras - new in box, never got around to installing it

    -Extra height landing skids for the camera gimbal mount

    -Turnigy 9x radio with Frsky D8x, LED backlight and "smarty pants" board installed.

     

    This quad is equipped for, and capable of being flown manually with the Turnigy radio or, it is capable of fully autonomous flight - you can use the free software (Windows and OS/X friendly) to set waypoints and have the quad fly the "mission" without any operator input. The software for the flight controller, radio and Mission Planning system are all open source with a very active and friendly community behind them. That also means that it's free. The Fat Shark goggles will allow you to fly First Person View "FPV" with live video directly from the quad itself. I have the small cctv camera that came with the kit but I flew it using a GoPro on a fixed mount. This lets you see exactly what your camera is capturing AND it lets you fly the quad as if you were actually onboard.

     

    The only thing you'll need to get flying are batteries and a charger. If that's a show stopper, I do have one spare charger and two batteries (3s 2600mah LiPo batteries) that I can add to "sweeten the pot". With these batteries, you'll get roughly 15 minutes of flight time. I'm selling this set up because 1) I have another one and 2) I need to clear by work bench to make room for other interests and hobbies.

     

    There's easily $1,000 in gear involved here and it's all well taken care of. In addition to what's listed, I've got a tub or two of miscellaneous extras and spare parts. I know that I have a LED controller and several strips of LED lights that I never got around to installing - they will go with it for free.

     

    I'm starting at $750, delivered to within a reasonable distance and if you have flight experience, I'll bring charged batteries so you can test fly it. If you don't have experience, I'll fly it for you so you can see that it works. After that, you'll want some extra props as you learn to fly yourself. A great thing about this airframe is that it's tough, it's modular and broken parts can be replaced easily.

     

    Trades? Okay. I'm obviously into Jeeps but I'm also into ham radio, hunting (gun and archery), guns, gadgets and ???? Reasonable offers are always welcome. I'm putting this on Ebay next week at a higher price so here's a chance to get into a well built, exceptionally capable quadcopter with almost enough parts to build a second one for a good price.

  10. The 2nd Gen, pre-refresh "S" models consume more oil than either post refresh or 1st Gen and it boils down to one thing... The turbo.

     

    1st Gen's that aren't leaking for blowing it past the valve guides or piston rings won't consume very much.

     

    2nd Gen, pre-refresh "S" models consume more oil because the turbo is both cooled and lubricated with engine oil and they are "loose" enough that there's a substantial amount of oil that gets into the intake tract. That's also why the 2nd Gens have such a problem with carbon build up on the valves and combustion chamber.

     

    My 09 "S" wanted 1/2 quart or so every 2k or so. My 12 JCW was a little better. The motor in the refresh (11 or "S" and 13 for JCW I think) made some changes that may have cut the consumption rate.

  11. I'm ready for the run

    I have my camera set up on shutter priority and 1/500th of a second so if there are vibrations I won't have any issues with camera shake.

    Tested the wireless remote

    mounted the tripod in the back (Mark helped with that so it's secure)

    Set the tripod head so that it sees the odometer, using a 100mm lens so that it is magnified a bit.

    Put a fresh battery and empty memory cards

     

    I think I'm ready!!!

     

    Also packed walkie talkies

     

    Just remember to drive Ali. Lots of twists and turns up there on Skyline and crazy people traffic on 66 so don't forget to drive. If you miss it, you'll get another chance at 200k.

    Take a look and remember, there's no obligation to do both parts (run and BBQ), you can do the run and split or you can just drop in at the house around noon and have some traditional July 4th BBQ food!

  14. Thank you Corey for setting up the perfect day. Great food, great weather, great conversation, and a great technician doing the tint work. And thank you everyone that came by just to hang out. The house was pretty full for awhile. :)
