jim0020 Posted December 26, 2018 Report Posted December 26, 2018 Anyone here have any experience replacing the exhaust manifold on a classic Mini? It's a '67 Mk I. Is this doable at home with jack stands or is a lift necessary? Do the manifold parts go in and out through the bonnet or underneath? Or do you need to remove the engine to do this? I'm assuming you need to remove the muffler and exhaust pipe first, then the collector (Y), then the manifold pipes, but can't figure out if it's via the top or the bottom. Thanks for any advice!
1975_mini Posted December 27, 2018 Report Posted December 27, 2018 It’s can all be done via the top. You are correct disconnect the exhaust underneath, but that is all required for underneath. -remove carb - remove intake manifold, two bolts in the middle, two on the edges shared with the exhaust headers. - undo two remaining bolts on each end of exhaust headers, slide back of bolts start to lift up and rotate 90 degrees for bottom bend to clear the firewall i shot you a private message with my cell number, feel free to text. 1 1975 Mini 1000, 998cc A+ w/ K&N air filter, 10" Mamba wheels
jim0020 Posted December 27, 2018 Author Report Posted December 27, 2018 (edited) Thanks! It looked like going through the top was possible, with rotating the parts to clear the firewall, but I wasn't sure about the one that goes to the outer ports. Basically because of it's Y shape could you really rotate it to get the bottom to clear. I didn't want to get started or in too deep to find out it wasn't possible. A little rotate and a little tilt and it will make it. Hard to explain exactly how and when to turn, its a feel thing, once you have done it a few times it become second nature. 1 1975 Mini 1000, 998cc A+ w/ K&N air filter, 10" Mamba wheels
