Greetings Fellow Motorers!

Michael, I've been to and through Poolesville many times. I'm in Potomac and cut through there sometimes on my way to WV or coming back from crossing at Point of Rocks.

Hey, I cut through Potomac pretty much every day... I'll keep an eye out for you!

Ernie blends in a little, being British Racing Green, but your coupe will be easy to spot. Remember to wave, so many people just don't get it.

Watch out for those MoCo speed cameras... it is difficult to keep these little rockets at or below 30 mph.

aaaaahhhh...... so near, and yet so far....

aside from meticulous inspection, what should I be looking for on delivery? Hood insulation? Leather scuffs? Drool marks?

I sit and wait alone in my room...

Just so eveyrone knows, there is a DCMM group in Waze so if you use the app, please join the group!

Trapster is another app that can help with speed cameras and such but it doesn't have the social networking options offered by Waze. Trapster will also allow you to download known enforcement points (LEO's favorite hangouts) and other enforcement information to a variety of devices to include phones and automotive GPS's.

Another app that has the potential to grow is the Escort Live app. Although it's produced and run by Escort (the makers of Escort radar detectors), they also have a database of redlight cameras. If you do use an Escort or Bel laboratories detector, you can tie it into the phone app and it will automatically report Ka and Laser detections from your detector.

And, finally, if you use a Garmin GPS, they have a redlight and speed camera database that can be added to your GPS as custom POI's and your GPS will give you a discreet little "bing, bing" when you are approaching said intersection or camera.

There's really no reason for getting snagged by one of those cameras, there are so many apps to let us know where they are...

Didn't know there was a DCMM Waze group. Just joined. Thanks.

I also have Escort Live (due to your recommendation in another thread) and sometimes run both of them, especially if I'm in a part of town where I don't already know where the speed cameras are located or the favorite camping spots for Officer Friendly.

I should also mention that Waze is a battery and data hog since it's constantly downloading maps and the social networking info. Trapster doesn't seem to be as bad but I haven't used v5.0 very much. I haven't run Escort Live enough to know what kind of battery drain to expect. I should be running it more in the near future so I'll provide an update on that.

There are several groups in Waze that can be useful. I'm also in the "Fairfax to DC" group and I get some great alerts in that so I can plan my commute. All to often, the GPS traffic and WTOP traffic fail to mention the fact that I-66 is a parking lot but those Wazers are all over it and I can take an alternate route to/from.

That's what car chargers are for. I also have a couple of battery backups in my laptop bag. One of the older models of this: http://store.griffintechnology.com/tunejuice-for-iphone and a couple of these: http://www.phonesuit.com/primo-micro-battery-pack-for-iphone-ipod/ The Griffin is a POS (the older model I have anyhow) but does serve a purpose as I don't have to remove my Otterbox. The Phonesuit is great, I just wish they also had a spacer adapter so I wouldn't have to risk my iPhone out of it's case to get a charge. I had/have a Mophie Juice Pack but that was for my 3Gs but also didn't provide the kind of protection the Otterbox does so I (but they've fixed that: http://www.mophie.com/juice-pack-PRO-Rugged-case-for-iPhone-4-4S-p/2120_jppr-ip4-blk.htm)

The best marketing campaign that MINI has ever done was the "MINI Confidential" campaign. Freaking amazing. It turned regular owners like us into "spy sleuths". Total blast. I'm sure it cost them a pretty penny, too.

My mistake.... your Roadster... which will stand out even more. Cool! It will be even easier for me to spot you as you blow through the Falls and River intersection. :motor:

Yeah, I suspect I'm going to be rather easy to spot!

Had so much fun driving home today! I was quite glad that the storms had passed and I was able to drive home, top down, in 79 degree weather. The driving gods were surely smiling upon me today!

(I really must stop using so many exclamation marks...)

Don't bother. I'm following the advice of an old friend. She said she'd never known me to be so happy about a car and encouraged me to "embrace my happiness". She's an artsy crafsty kind of gal and I'm not inclined to such mushiness...but she was absolutely right. So that's how I start and end every day, driving my MINI and "embracing my happiness". I'm telling you the same. If exclamation points are what you feel, let 'em fly. Enjoy the ride :motor:

Let the exclamation points fly!!!!

Believe me, we get your joy and happiness! We have all been there, I'm still there.

My wife and daughters can't believe how much happiness a little car has brought me. I have even called my wife, while sitting at a dead stop in the evening "rush hour" on the American Legion Bridge, to exclaim that I love my car and don't care about the rush hour. She is convinced that I am a total MINIac and that we are all members of a MINI cult. I did notice her smile a few times while on MTTS 2012 in Charlotte (at the Music Factory and the speedway) and then again when I allowed her to drive Ernie about 200 miles heading home.

As Will, or his friend, stated... embrace the happiness!

Other people, even other MINI owners that don't wave, just won't understand. They only think that they bought a car. They just don't get it.

Save the wave! :wavey:

Shhhhhhh. You weren't supposed to mention the cult until AFTER the "orientation" process....

:) I'm with Bert - I find ways to enjoy my MINI even when traffic has conspired against me. Glad to have another happy owner in the cul... er, I mean, Club!

I commuted in my precious Tigger for the first time in a month today. Had a happy smile and zipped through rush hour without whining. Oh the joy

Sounds like a bumper sticker/grill badge if I ever heard one
