Clubman Cargo Net

Recommended Posts

In washing my buggy and playing hooky today I inspected something I'd come across earlier but didn't have time to figure out. I found what appears to be cargo net in the spare tire well. I say "appears to be" because I can't see anything functional about it as a cargo net. In doing some intense Googling I came across this http://www.minipartsmass.com/parts/2010/MINI/COOPER/CLUBMAN/?siteid=215989&vehicleid=1445175&diagram=1971830

My net is part #7 and as it is shown in the schematic was the only way I could see it placed in my buggy...and it still looks just as useless.

Is this correct? It's supposed to go in the boot well strecthed a couple of inches up?!? And if so, for what purpose? I also found reference to cargo net #8 (http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/2667394-post1.html) which is also just as retarded.

Are there any cargo nets that actually work for the MINI? My friend has a tri-cornered pouch-like thing that came with her hardtop that is a wee bit more useful, but she says all it can hold are plastic supermarket bags.

EDIT: so this is how this thing is supposed to (sorta) work?!? http://mybeautifulmini.com/images/large/BMW-65_LRG.JPG

I will admit, the cargo net in the boot well of the Clubman isn't as good as the net in the back of the R56. Mainly because, as you pointed out, it mounts an inch or more above the "floor". I actually do use it though and I find that it tends to keep things in place better so they aren't sliding around and clunking into each other as much.

Not sure what are you guys talking about, there are 4 rings (2 on each side) just above the upper floor shelf; just last weekend I've used the net to secure a cake for a kid b-day, it worked perfectly fine.

I assume you used it like this: http://mybeautifulmini.com/images/large/BMW-65_LRG.JPG

I'm looking for something like I had in my Outback (http://subarupartspeople.com/images/Subaru/O6%20Cargo%20Net%20Rear.jpg). Not only is/was it a pouch, it also served as a barrier to keep things from falling out (I wish I had thought to keep it before I sold my former buggy).

I'll wrap it around an object and secure it to one side to keep something from shifting around a lot.

I'm just kinda used to stuff rolling/moving/shifting back there, especially with all the seats down!
