  1. The BOV is nearly identical to the stock product. The Alta product allows you to reflash the ECU to the stock setting. The Rev app utilizes a plug and play OBDII is literally a cord that just plugs in. So, yeah, basically all this stuff easily unplugs in the event I need to bring it in!
  2. I've been working cybersecurity issues for a while now. I really dig it, but I'm also easily bribed. I'll be doing patent law, specifically comp sci/IT patents, and I think it's a great combination. Considering I graduate in 3 months, it would be pretty late to bail now
  3. As most of you know, I recently purchased a 2007 MCS from a dealer, which I am extremely pleased with. I also purchased the dealer's (not the Mini) extended warranty, which, while comprehensive, also appears to be pretty prohibitive of performance aftermarket parts. I'm likely not going to go the JCWs package route, so all of my performance modifications are likely going to be "stealth", or invisible to the dealer in a pretty short amount of time. As both a computer scientist and a soon-to-be-lawyer (be scared), I'm always drawn to "documentation" - E.g., chronicling the process that I took, so that others can learn from my screwups, which will be the first purpose of this thread. The second purpose is to ask the community what additional mods I should pursue, in addition to the ones below that I have planned: 1. WMW BOV 2. Alta AccessPort 3. Rev iPhone Application + OBDII device (this presumably takes the place of a boost gauge, and gives me insight into other relevant things like temperature readings). Incidentally, if anyone has any experience with this, please let me know. 4. Sweet racing stripes So, what else could I get away with? The RM Torque Arm, perhaps? I suspect exhaust and CAI are out of the question?
  4. Thanks for the tips! I found a thread over on NAM that seemed pretty detailed. It shipped today, so I'll probably end up putting it in when I get it after the meet and greet on Saturday!
  5. WMW just shipped this item to me. I'm really excited! I've heard varying things about the install, from people who thought it was super easy, to those who thought it was unbearably hard. I'm crossing my fingers!
  6. We arrived at the name over dinner! Stella!
  7. I just don't know! My wife thinks that it should be called Otis, short for Oatmeal, what she calls the color. But I'm not convinced.
  8. And finally - the moment of truth!
  9. And another - check out the red/orange interior!
  10. Hey all, here are some pictures!
  11. I passed on the JCW. While I love me some extra power, someone had put in an aftermarket suspension, which was pretty absurd. I had flashes of driving on the beltway to work and breaking my spine the car was wound so tight. Instead, I got a 2007 MCS, Sparkling Silver Metallic (or, Oatmeal, as my wife claims), with 33k miles on it for the same price. Pictures to follow on Monday! Time to officially join the club!
  12. I'm headed off to test drive 2 minis - both 2007 MCS, but only one is the JCW. All things being equal, I should be an owner by tonight!
  13. It's a package designed, manufactured, and installed by Mini. If you have a standard Mini Cooper S from pre 2008, you can bring it to the dealer and have them add the JCW package. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cooper_Works#Cooper_S_R56
  14. Dear lord that picture scares me. Fortunately, I think the product is http://www.minifini.com/ShopDetail.aspx?id=19, which apparently is used for bikes or snowsports.
  15. Indeed. It isn't clear to me why there isn't one in the rear. I've seen other 2007 Cooper S JCWs that don't have the rear badge, but I'm not sure why. I'm going to get myself one ASAP!
  16. Thanks! So, is that used for bike racks and other accessories? Or does that imply that the previous owners used the Mini to actually tow something? :banghead: Edit: From their website, it looks like more for bike racks, etc. Thanks!
  17. I could be wrong, but I'm reasonably sure that those are the JCW 3 inch exhaust.
  18. It's the 2007 JCW engine kit (visible on the engine and the front grill), and also has the JCW brakes. In 2007, they didn't make separate models called JCW. It was rather a package installed by the dealer after the sale. http://www.topspeed.com/cars/mini/2007-mini-cooper-s-by-john-cooper-works-ar42640.html That's why I called it "'07 Cooper S JCW" in the opening post, because there is no such thing as a "2007 JCW" (at least to my knowledge).
  19. Does anyone know what the two circular metallic objects above and on either side of the exhaust are? I'm stumped, and I'd like to find out before I see the car.
  20. I'm not sure about that actually. The way I figure, manuals are girls, and automatics are guys. After all, girls really do need a manual to understand.
  21. Thanks! I assume by the time I've driven back from Ohio with the JCW, I'll have gauged whether or not it's a good name. I've been hearing all this talk of having to decide whether the Mini is a boy or a girl. If it's a girl, it might change the name!
  22. Thanks! I haven't bought it yet though - I want to make sure that it doesn't shake, rattle, and roll first! However, I have a strong inclination that I will be returning home this weekend with a Mini! As for naming, the JCW has a wide single bright yellow racing stripe from front to back, over the forest green base color. I'm thinking about calling him Spot Yes, I like irony :top:
  23. Hey all, I'm heading halfway across the country to try to score an '07 Cooper S JCW this weekend, and assuming that everything checks out with the car, I'll be back in the DC area with my new Mini on Monday! I stumbled across this forum from North American Motoring, and I can't wait to meet up with you guys. I'm down in Old Town, Alexandria, where it seems like every third person owns a Mini, but I'm looking forward to doing group runs, and maybe even the Dragon! Does anyone have any big-ticket items that I should be sure to check when I go to pick up the car? It has 46k miles on it. Thanks! ORazor
