  1. It was good to see you TGGRRR! :wavey: I tried to yell my "screen name" but I wasn't loud enough, Ha! That is my normal commute route. These days it is so rare to see a fellow enthusiast who waves... let alone someone I recognized from the Mini community. The only other one I've seen in the last couple years was HZBLUR.... So, I couldn't help but get a bit over-excited.

You were the envy of the GW yesterday, with the top down and big smile on your face. All the hard tops and "just another car" folks were checkin out your ride!

Then heading to an appointment down the GW Parkway and I spy a Horizon Blue MINI, the driver tooted and waved. I was so happy and waved back. As he passed me I saw the JCW badge. About 10 miles down the road and after passing 4 non waving MINIs I saw him again as he was stuck in traffic in the right lane and I was passing. He waved again and yelled something, but I couldn't catch it. I had an SUV up my butt, so I couldn't slow down enough to chat.

The waves made my day! :wavey:

  2. Followed a silver/black JAC from Leesburg to Frederick yesterday afternoon, 20+ miles. I'm not sure she saw me even though I was right behind in Skylar. There were no waves at all, but she did get 15 or 20 text message sent via her Motorola Droid in that time!

  3. Saw the HzBlueBlur westbound on King Street Alexandria yesterday around lunch time. I was walking across the street to your right side as you were turning left. I waived, but you and your passenger were appropriately focused on driving. It was so amazing to see another HzB w/tinted windows. I did a double-take thinking it was Skylar!

Walking back to the office after lunch, I saw another HzB JAC with temporary "just bought" tags.

Chipotle plus two HzB's on the walk. Ahhh life is good.

  4. Ok dumb question of the day.

Is the ferry a walk-on type with the sole purpose to visit the Statue/Ellis Island? So the plan then if I get it right, is to all meet in NJ at the parking lot, and all catch a ferry (leaving our MINI's in NJ) and go over

  5. +1

Carlos hooked up my ride today! I was gonna go a little bit darker than the legal 35% but while I was there I overheard a VA resident request a re-tint down to legal status. The tickets where adding up.

So, when I get my camera back I'll post some glamor shots of my Blue Blur!

    :bootyshake:

Alright! I cannot wait to see a picture! Did you get the 35 percent tint from Carlos (plus whatever is on the windows already) -as rrsperry talks about- or did you get less than the 35 percent tint from Carlos?

I finally had a chance to wash Skylar on Monday and snapped a higher rez photo with the window tint. I'm still really happy. I haven't had a problem yet, but who knows. It is probably imminent. <sigh>

  6. Another great experience with Carlos's Solar Solutions! Skylar got the treatment everywhere but the front windshield. 35% on the sides/rear and 50% on the roof. Agree with all the positive feedback here! Not the best photo taken with my Droid, but you get the idea. Need to get him washed up and get the wheels clean but the windows turned out great. :motor:

  7. Ok, got them all installed. I'm very happy with how it looks! I've pasted pictures on my Mondo mini page, but my camera isn't that great in low-light so they are what they are. Here is a direct link to the album.

    I'll attach my favorites too.

The install went fine after the encouragement from you all, and Dan on how to get the map light lenses off. The lenses are very soft plastic so cleaning them before re-installing them needs to be done with a soft cloth or micro-fiber.

The dome light even has a bluish tint to it so everything looks nice together.

  8. There are some different shaped bulbs but they all seem to share the same connection. I tried installing the bulbs for the map lights...they light up when you first put them in but when you drive it home(push it all the way in they are no longer illuminated. I tried plugging it in both ways to no avail. Am I using the wrong bulbs?

I too received the full bulb pack and got the overhead dome light done quickly and easily. Love it!

I was able to pry out the under-door light casing easily, but got nervous and put it back in. Now, with your recommendation to use tweezer/needle nose pliers I'll try to swap that tonight. I also found that the cover for the light in the driver foot-well above gas/brake/clutch peddle comes off easily but man...how to get the bulb out without breaking it...stumped.

Lastly, any tips on how to get the map light covers for the driver and passenger off without breaking?

A perfect birthday present! Cannot wait to get this done and be blue inside to match the outside.

  9. I went to the dealership with intent to trade in the R56 cooper (auto) since I felt it needs more horses. ... but the works cars is just soo much FUN! :motor::

We are a single mini family for now, but I can confirm the JCW is, well, totally freakin awesome! You will love it so much, you won't have regrets. I waited about 2 years before I got my mini. Even though I've had it since July, I still walk out to the garage to grab some supplies and come back in amazed that I have a mini in the garage. Totally cool.

At our house, the SUV we have has more than 110K miles (a lot for a GM product). Hopefully I can keep it on the road until the MC crossover comes into the States. Then perhaps we'll join you. The Mrs. drove a Clubman and loved it, but saw more barriers than opportunities. Maybe a couple more times at the dealer will foster that along a little bit too.

    Good luck, enjoy the buy!
