  1. Hello all, I come seeking guidance and a driveway ;)

My break-in period is well over with and I'd like to do an oil change. Unfortunately, I live in Arlington and have no place to actually do the oil change. Also, this will be the first time I've personally change the oil in any car, let alone a Mini.

I have the oil, filter and most of the tools (I think I just need to pick up a 1/2" extension and drain pan w/ lid for transport to recycling). I do not have a jack or jack stands right now, but AutoZone's got a Duralast 2 ton jack + 2 stands for $40 which I could get easily enough.

So is there anyone who'd be willing to loan me their driveway and expertise? I've no problem traveling and can bring a beverage or something else of your choice :)

  2. Looked at the RE760's and decided not to get them because I heard they get flat spots sitting in temps 60 and under. Went with 215/40/17 Dunlop Z1 star specs tires. Paying 110 a piece through my friends shop. Will post up how I like them later in the week.

Heh, in the past couple days I switched my planned tires from the RE760s to the Z1 Star specs also. In my case it was a decision to go for performance over tire life, but if the RE760s develop flat spots that's a good thing to know.

Car and Driver's August 2009 edition has a tire comparison test for summer tires under $140 and the Z1 Star Specs came out on top. The RE760s were 4th, due (I would guess) to having a longer life and quieter ride. I'd likely still be buying them if I hadn't been tempted away to get some Extreme summer tires.

  3. Do you have any other marking on your car like a badge or stickers or something? We frequent the same roads...

Well, I've got the DCMM cling in the back and the Cherry Run cling on the driver's side rear window right now.

Hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks I'll have some white Team Dynamic Pro Race wheels, and then some time this fall I'll be adding some custom stripes but until those things happen just the colors :)

    Oh, and it's an R56 S.

  4. I keep waving, no one waves back, kind of dis heartening... Being a Jeep™ driver also, I am good at the sudden "oh look another mini, " thing. my mini is sleeper ish, no stripes, roof and body match, but the ALL chili red cooper in the Springfield area being driven by the heavily tattooed Asian guy.. well that's ME :)

Don't worry, you'll get some wave backs and in the meantime, maybe you'll educate some other Mini drivers :) I'll keep an eye out when I'm down around Springfield, and if you are up in the Shirlington area keep your eye out for a Laser blue w/ white roof & white wheels... giving you a description of me wouldn't help though. I'm not distinguishable ;)

Personally it seems like I get more waves when I'm just cruising down the GW parkway on a nice day.

  5. hmmmm...only 9 people? Last year we had around 50 and attendees had to pay. C'mon folks...this event is FREE! Come one, come all! Games, prizes and free food! Plus a beach, swimming, a playground for the kiddies all on the beauti
  6. Ive got a big driveway, garage and all the cleaning supplies/ tools you would require if any of you ever need a place to do a detail.

Thanks for the offer, I've got a slot lined up for Monday (at least as long as it isn't

  7. I Parked in the Franconia/Springfield Metro station, 4th level last Friday afternoon and I happened to find a spot next to a Silver Cooper S (black bonnet stripes). I also see a Yellow Cooper with a part of the black panel on the drivers side windshield post broken near where I live and then, I see him pulling into the parking structure where I work. Was it you?

Out of curiosity, why don't more MINI drivers wave at each other?

I'd guess it's cause there's been a large influx of people who just have it as a car - they don't know any of the etiquette.

I try to wave, but sometimes I'm distracted with the driving part ;)

  8. Another great run Bill! Absolutely no issues sweeping, but there was the

guy in the pick up with the muzzle loader, that is a story for another time!

And yes Tom, it was washed and detailed before being put to bed for the
