  1. +1 for the "Auto Sport +" from FES Auto. It allows you to program the Sport or DSC button for start up (Great for Autocross use so you don't forget to turn off the DSC). It also gives you two "Stealth" circuits that can be used to activate low power devices or to control relays for low power devices by performing a quick double tap on the button. My DSC button controls power to a device that I like to be able to turn off/on without having to reach to the device. With a relay, this could also power auxillary lights.

Ahhhh, yet another item I need you to share with me tomorrow (reminder re my bumper. I haven't done anything with it as I've been motoring the last couple of weekends).

P.S. - I have a stick, so does the "Auto Sport +" really do anything for me?

  2. I don't know how much work they have done on MINIs but Hurley's Auto Audio has always had a good reputation; http://hurleysautoaudio.com

    Response back from Hurley's:

    viper 3901t 325.00 installed

    features are

Door, hood, trunk, and ignition protection.

    - Built-in Stinger® Doubleguard® Shock Sensor

    - Revenger® 6-tone Siren

    - Failsafe® Starter Kill

    - Superbright LED

    - Parking Light Flash

    - Horn Honk Output

    - AUX Output

    - Optional Sensor Input (MUX) Port

Directed CANBUS security systems are all Remote Start compatible and can be used to activate an add-on remote start module such as the Avital 4003.

*Some features not available on all vehicles

Which seems to be this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016YDJP2

Will continue to get price quotes

    .

  3. There is a USB Retrofit available; http://www.shopminiusa.com/PRODUCT/590/MINI-BLUETOOTH-RETROFIT-KIT-WITH-USB-AUDIO-INTERFACE

I don't know what is involved to install it but it is an option.

Saw that. Caveat: For vehicles produced from 8/2007 to 8/2010. Mine buggy is an '11.

Besides, the first part is +$200. Add labor and any other parts that are needed and it is quite cost-prohibitive (to me).

  4. Well, I've got a wee bit of a drive for the M&G on Saturday. I'll press the button and see what happens. As I'm cutting through Rock Creek from downtown SS and then onto 395 I'll have two different road types to test it on to see if there is any real difference.

P.S. - SORRY! Didn't mean to thread-jack. Back to our regularly scheduled program :)

  5. i know that you only have the AUX port what you could do is get a ipod mount to have next to the steering wheel and run the cable down the dash to the port. so the ipod is in view and you can just push the next button without taking you eyes off the road.

Yeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking about. Still window shopping the solution.

  6. My guess is when you copied the original CDs to your hard drive the software looked up the GraceNote (http://www.gracenote.com/about) data and applied this info to the burned CD as CD TEXT data (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-Text). Most commercial CDs made in the last few years will have the CD Text data already on the disc and it will display on the MINI's display.

Commercially made CDs that display only the track number on the display will either have to be a) purchased again and hope the label added the CD Text data or b) copy the old disc to a computer and burn a new disc. Burn the disc as a standard audio CD or use .wav files for the best sound quality. :top:

Appreciate the info. My CDs are old. That particular album was done in '57

I'd have to look at the CD to see the reissue date but I'm sure it's also too old. Well, I'm looking at converting all of my CDs to MP3s and putting them on a player. Have a Shuffle I bought last year that's still sitting on a shelf unopened. Was thinking about using that for the car (everything else in my buggy is MINImized ).

    Again, thanks for the info.

Did we just change the topic and are no longer discussing cup holders:questionmark:

I was wondering about that, but figured cmcveay's response might shed some light (I think he meant to post that over here: http://dcmetrominis.org/forum/topic/2007-usb-amp-mini-stereo-plug-to-connect-an-ipod/)

As for the cup holder I'm to the point of seeing what Burt's creation on Saturday and moving forward from there (unless somebody posts a solution between now and then).

  8. So I've been playing CDs and have been annoyed that the display merely shows Track 1, Track 2, etc (and no time played or left). Then last night I threw in a burned CD that was a compilation of two other CDs and I get the song title displayed! The burned CD is over 10 years old so I don't recall what I might have done special to it, but I copied it from originals which don't display. In searching for an answer I found this thread http://www.mini2.com/forum/first-generation-mini-cooper/173792-mini-cooper-2002-cd-player-text.html

So does this mean I need to burn all of my CDs into MP3's to get track info (which then raises my dissatisfaction of not having the USB port next to my aux port )?

P.S. - I also found a nice little MP3 guide for the stock radio. http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/navigation-and-audio/161275-mini-cooper-mp3-quick-guide-w-standard-radio-and-cd-player.html

  9.

I already have one of these http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/accessory-details/?device=Car+Charger+with+USB+Port+-+Universal+Micro+USB&q_sku=sku3730245#fbid=mcYjpTsrjJO and a aux cable whereas I can play my iPhone through my radio and charge it (and charge something else with the USB port). What does the product you reference do differently?

  10. You don't have to have the MINI connected to do this, just the iPhone integration with I think is now standard. Just under the lower switches, recessed into the center cubby hole just a bit should be a rectangular "box" on the right side of the cubby hole. The USB port has a cover that slides sideways to protect it and the Aux port is just to the right of the USB. You can use a thumb drive or iPod/iPhone and the head unit will let you select the music. MINI Connected just gives it a little "sexier" interface and adds other creature features.

I ain't got nuthin' but a hole to nowhere :( (there wasn't any cover either)

  11. Which port(s) do you have under the switches?

Do you have the USB and the 3.5mm stereo jack or just the 3.5mm?

If you have a USB you can do a lot more. If you only have the 3.5mm you can connect any audio device but will have to control it using the device and not the through the car controls. We can compare on Saturday.

From memory it's just the jack, no USB. But then, I'd found it by accident and didn't investigate much further as I already have an aux cable (I take it with me when I travel so I can plug my iPhone into the rental) and started using it right away.

  12. Those look like Go Badges 2 me (www.gobadges.com) ... they have an awesome collection from which 2 choose! Check 'em out! (Have 2 myself!)

    Yeah, what she said

Nice, I like the Storm Trooper look!

I am thinking that one of these is going to be my next MINI purchase.

Love the ST look as well (but I already think my next is the Roadster...or the Z4 if I could actually pull it off...like after hitting the lottery)

  13. Ask around and you should get a few good recommendations.

I don't know how much work they have done on MINIs but Hurley's Auto Audio has always had a good reputation; http://hurleysautoaudio.com Hurley's used to do a lot of installs (alarm, audio, etc.) for the auto dealers up and down Route & in Tysons and Vienna. I found out about them from Tysons Jeep and Don Beyer Volvo and they did 2 radio replacements for me. They have a small shop off of 7 and the Toll Road, tucked into a light industrial area and group of auto repair and body shops. Check out their web site and give them a call.

Thanks for the info. My posting here IS me asking around

  14. Will, the Mini Connected iPhone app still works, and it does a nice job giving the driver useful information but I don't like it DJing for me. I used to DJ, long ago, and I have a very broad range of music interests. The new small flash drives are working great. I was sitting on the American Legion Bridge this afternoon rocking it out. I even called my wife and told her how much I LOVE THIS Car... and her. She sees the smile on my face, even after driving home in rush hour for an hour... a trip that usually averages 30 minutes in the afternoon/evening. :motor:

Hmmmmm...along with my iPhone I have a Shuffle. I've plugged my iPhone in via the aux port under the switches and figured I could do the same with my shuffle (but with a 1 mile commute I don't get much past one song, depending on which track on the CD I'm listening to).

But this past weekend where I played hooky and burned gas, I found myself wishing for the 6-disc changer or being able to plug my iToys in and control more than just the volume. I get the impression I can't do so without the "Connected" package(?)

  15. Is the problem only on low? How does it work/feel when your turn it up higher? I have a thermometer (long thin metal spike with round thermostat on end) and a laser thermometer I would use when I questioned the temp of the a/c coming out of my Outback. When freshly charged it was just shy of spitting out icicles at 40 degrees. Prior to that it was giving me 60 degrees. But checking the temp (after charging) will tell me if I simply needed to increase the flow to combat the heat.

  16. ...you mean Coupé ads. They are good ones though! :top:

    Right you are!

The Roadster ones are surprisingly... unmotivating (and these are the better ones):
